Very nice review. ADS-B traffic and weather has been a game changer for me in comparison to what I trained on 10 years ago. As a fellow Aztec owner and flyer, I subscribed to your channel early in your journey and have loved seeing your channel grow. Your editing and comfort in front of the camera has been improving with every new release. Keep the videos coming.

In the market now for a ADSB-In receiver. I rent aircrafts and not all of them have the In receivers. Great video, it answered a lot of my questions. Also, good on keeping the price for the end, because if you would've started with that I would've cut the video short.. haha. Thank you!

I just tried to listen to SiriusXM music with mine for the first time. I am unable to listen to music and ForeFlight alerts at the same time. I reached out to Garmin customer service and they sent me directions on how to connect the device to the iPad…which I already had. I reached out to LightSpeed to check on what I could do on that end. No reply yet. I can not connect the Garmin and the headset to the iPad simultaneously. Anyone else run into this?

I am not a pilot, but do follow other pilot channels. If my health was good, I would take the plunge and get my ppl. You definitely have great content.

I have Sentry. I have been debating whether to purchase the 52. Any thoughts?

It really depends what you need it for. I use the 52 for a lot of IFR and it's been reliable and user friendly. If the Sentry does what you need it too I probably wouldn't. But it would be worth it if you need traffic or weather, etc

Sentry is compatible with ForeFlight only. No other apps. Stratus will support multiple apps - basically any app that takes in open formats. ForeFlight will work with Stratus, but the Sentry is proprietary to ForeFlight. Both use WiFi. The GDL50/52 uses Bluetooth. The Stratus and Sentry use WiFi. If you want to use cell internet, in-plane wifi or anything else, the Sentry will not work. It's basically a wifi access point and it hogs the network. Sentry is a little better, but it requires some configuration. A bluetooth receiver will not compete with your TCP/IP networks, at all. I was going for a Sentry, but the ForeFlight lock-in turned me off. Then it was Sentry, but the Garmins use bluetooth, which pretty much has me planning on a GDL52. Hope this helps.

@@FamilyManMoving thank you for the detail explanation. My only drawbacks with sentry are ForeFlight centric and occasionally I lose signal. I just completed a 7.7 hour cross country to/from San Diego to Tucson. While flying in California coming from Yuma I lost connection. It has happened quite a few times on other flights. I have been contemplating switching from ForeFlight to Garmin Pilot. Probably next year. Thanks!

@@FamilyManMoving good question. Thinking back my iPad indicated sentry lost connection. Then about 30 seconds passed and the connection reestablished. And I was able to see my track.

Hey Sammy, happy new year my friend, to you and your family. Very informative video. I guess having a Garmin is better than having that big radar pod hanging off of one of the wings, LOL but here’s a thought on your battery situation. Sometimes certain devices will not charge a battery when you have it plugged in to an external power source. It will operate off that external power source but at the same time, will actually drain your battery. That instantly came to mind when I heard you say, when you disconnected the external power source the battery showed dead. In your case, it probably seems like a better idea to charge up the battery when you’re out of the airplane, and when you go flying, use the internal battery exclusively. This way you will always know the condition of your battery and how much charge you have. Sometimes using that external power source will give you a false sense of security. I discovered this problem through the use of my scanner. A friend of mine gave me a heads up on the problem I was creating for myself. So I thought I would pass this onto you seeing as how you have had that for a year and you’re probably wondering why your battery’s dead when you disconnect from a external power source. Hey Al, happy new year to you as well. Thanks a lot for your comment on the battery issue. I think a couple month's ago I switched out chargers, and as far as I can tell that fixed the situation. It's also a great idea to charge it before flying, however I like to keep it in the plane so that it doesn't get lost and is always ready to go. Thanks for the comment. Have a good evening!

So I just bought the GDL50, obviously without the SXM. My question is, will the GDL50 provide me with DTK, groundspeed, VFPM, and altitude data on a WIFI only iPad mini 6th generation?
