For me as soon as Kid A was revealed as #2 it was obvious OK Computer was gonna be at the top.

Gonna be honest, the list overall is pretty solid.

The first side of “Meddle” is great but side B is entirely filled with “Echoes “ which is probably my favourite track of all time. I’m a massive Floyd fan and it feels like everything the band had been up to that point and would become in the coming years.

In the Court of the Crimson King is such an experience. Definetely deserves top 5.

Meddle is my all time favorite Pink Floyd Album and Amnesiac is currently one of my favorite Radiohead albums. Two albums I would consider as underappreciated if not underrated.

If you’re gonna check out Swans, I highly recommend “White Light From The Mouth of Infinity.” It’s more goth rock inspired and very accessible to first time listeners.

Ohhhhh Tom Waits is a fantastic rabbit hole to explore! Start at the beginning with "Closing Time." It's GREAT! "Nighthawks at the Diner" is a live album of new songs with some great banter that is also a favorite. I could go on and on...

Fun House is my favorite album ever made. I definitely recomend it. Rain Dogs is a great place to start with Waits. You want to remember though that he has a few different periods and you might be really, really into one but not the others. Meddle is closer to the more experimental early Floyd but starting to have the Radio anthems of albums like Dark Side and The Wall. I love it but it might not work for some folks. You definitely want to hear King Crimson if you like Prog. Nice video. Thanks!

This was a great video. I'm glad I got to hear you talk more about some classic records you haven't really mentioned on the channel before, and I hope this video exposes RYM to a new audience. Also, just wanted to say I highly recommend Meddle and In The Court Of The Crimson King. You said you weren't too familiar, and I think you should check them out, because both albums are great, and Echoes is one of the best songs the pop punk piece of trash that is myself has ever heard.

For Tom Waits I'd say dont start with Rain Dogs, its a great album but I think theres other albums that are easier listening to progress you into some of his more experimental stuff (like Rain Dogs). His earlier work is alot more laid back, less experimental and his voice isnt as gravelly like his later work. So starting off with some of his earlier work then I'd say go to Swordfishtrombones, then rain dogs, then get into more of his later stuff. Although Mule Variations from his later career has a good variety of both of his different eras. His later career is arguably alot better imo, Bone Machine, Mule Variations, Rain Dogs, Swordfishtrombones, but I do like his first one as well Closing Time. But yeah Tom Waits is great, would highly recommend.

There is way too much reverence for modern music. What about Thriller? Master of Puppets? Paranoid by Black Sabbath? Songs in the Key of Life? Abbey Road? Yellow Brick Road by Elton John? I love Radiohead, but this list does not do enough to span across genres in the right way. A “greatest album” needs to keep all things in consideration. The time period in which it came out. How dynamic it was. How much it’s not only had an impact on you- the listener- but the artists who came after it. As well as the world it created in the consciousness of people once the album is released. For example- In the Court of the Crimson King- fantastic album. Everyone should hear it... But it belongs somewhere in the 7-10 range. This is Greg Lake’s only album with the band. It’s prolific. But better than Abbey Road? No.

You're so right about Pink Floyd's Animals being good. Those plonkers at Rolling Stone Album Guide gave it just 2 out of 5. I wanted Queen's A Night at the Opera to be in the top 100 because I love that. I did an internet search to find out its position on RateYourMusic and it is at number 756 which I think is ridiculously low.

The ones I've heard: -Surfer Rosa (only heard it once but it's very good) -Loveless (PERFECT ALBUM) -Souvlaki (this made me cry and loved it instantly) -Daydream Nation (got it on the 2nd listen and it's amazing) -Dummy (great record) -Doolittle (also very good) -The Bends (not a huge fan of this album, but I like it) -OK Computer (I have a CD copy and it sounds awesome!!) -Kid A (really good, I'm not crazy about it, but I recommend listening to it) -Nevermind (obviously. Order of the albums may be debatable as always but all of these albums are of the highest quality and everyone should know them and listen to them at least once.

i used to listen to Slowdive for a while, particularly their 2017 self-titled but i've sadly fallen off a little. probably bc the person who recommended them to me and i aren't friends anymore and it wasn't pretty. but i can't let that keep me from listening to Slowdive and/or Shoegaze in general!

Meddle in my opinion is essential and while not quite as good as The Wall, Wish You Were Here or Dark Side of the Moon (I'm stunned The Wall wasn't higher), those albums may not have existed if it wasn't for Meddle. Truth be told, I actually think Fear of Music is a better album than Remain in Light, though it is hard to go wrong with Talking Heads. I'd be curious to know what you think of The Mars Volta or Rx Bandits (though the latter is less well known and I only discovered them out of sheer luck).

I suggest that you listen to the "Soundtracks For the Blind" (1996) album by Swans all the way through. It does take up a lot of time. It's about 2 and a half hours long but it's truly a phenomenal, mesmerizing record. Everyone should listen to it all the way through at least once in their life!

Y e s. You must listen to Yes. They are one of my favourite bands of all time. Definitely my favourite prog rock band. I’ve always preferred them to Pink Floyd. For starting out with Yes, listen to The Yes Album, Fragile and Close To The Edge. These are their three best albums and if I were you I’d listen to them in the order I’ve put above. Then you can explore into other Yes work. After those albums, my favourites are Tales From Topographic Oceans, Going For The One, Drama, Relayer and Time And A Word. Hope you like them :)

I was happy when Lift Your Skinny Fists was at 13. That album is a masterpiece.

No Queen shocked me. I expected at least 5 or six queen albums on here. At least as many as Bowie.

My problem with a lot of lists like these is that they seem to equate or correlate popular/public opinion and popularity with quality. That’s rarely if ever an accurate depiction of quality. If you’re truly going to let that guide your thinking then you’re going to miss out on great and better music.

If you want a good starting point for Tom waits, “bone machine”, “rain dogs”, “SwordfishTrombones”, and “blood money” are all excellent starting points. I’m a bit biased since i enjoy his whackier side and not his bluesy piano bar side.

Closing Time by Tom Waits is a good starting point. It's Piano Rock - Singer/Songwriter at it's best and you get a slight sense of his vocal style. After this he experiments more with Dark Cabaret, Blues and Art Rock. I recommend Rain Dogs at next.

The best starting point for Tom Waits is his debut, Closing Time. Rain Dogs is a better album, but Closing Time is more accessible.

You should definitely check out Spiderland by Slint, Godspeed You! Black Emperor Raise your Skinny Fists, especially if you like Explosions in the Sky
