I thought I remember reading a while back that it was because people were putting them in front of shitty ballasts that weren't ACTUALLY putting out the watt value advertised, for instance a 35W ballast that was ACTUALLY giving like 27W, and it was consistent when they changed bulbs, but a few found it went away when they got better ballasts.

Looking at the beam comparison at 7:07 there seems to be about a 1-2 inch move of the projector to the left when testing the xd 6k, and all 3 morimoto bulbs vs the xd 43k, 5k and the xv2 bulb. Not saying this affected the test or not, but I know from doing my own tests that moving spots there can be a decent change in lux measurments even though the movement was minor.

Hey William, Good eye! You are absolutely correct. We actually move the projector around the lux meter sensor with each bulb and ensure that we are getting the highest possible reading with each bulb. We then film the beam pattern in a static position just for comparison sake.

I think you’re talking about the hotspot alignment. That’s the problem with the aftermarket. Bulbs are never aligned perfectly.

Are there any options for a shielded ballast? I seem to get noise and all of my communication radios except for XM Satellite. Sorry slightly off topic

I'm planning on doing a projector retro fit for my Honda Accord, is there a way for me to use the high beams on the projectors I'm using, I see a negative and positive, I'm thinking of using wiring from my random fog lights I've installed or should I split my high beam wiring to wire the high beam for my projector, does any of this make sense 😭

BigAppleGuns thank you, i was looking into the 55w ballast but i might shorten the life of the bulbs at the cost of then being slightly brighter than 35w

@@Hakuna_My_Tatas Hard to go wrong with 35W Hylux. they are super reliable and have been popular for years. I think you'll be satisfied with the brightness.

4:22 The reason why they could be complaining about the green look is that looking through the windshield it makes the light look greenish while driving around but if you stick your head out the window they are pure white. I don't see any other reason why they would complain about a green tint to the light.

Honestly, I kept this point in mind however I really saw a green tint on my Morimoto XB D4S 5500K and it bothered me like crazy, I decided to dish out the $200 and get the Osram CBB bulbs and let me tell you.... first off WAY brighter and secondly after a slight breakin period of about a few weeks of night driving the bulbs went from yellowish white to a full on crisp white, with NO greenish tint. You certainly get what you pay for in the lighting industry. Just my experience.

what is the brightest 9012 HID Bulb you have that will work with the morimoto 55w ballasts ?

We haven't tested them as thoroughly as this but the XB's are a great option!

Not that I plan to do this setup, but I'm curious to see and XTR strapped to a 50w ballast. I know the intensity is going to be there I want to see the color output, the effect on an oem capsule.

I tried them on 5000K bulbs with Hylux 45W ballasts and they do become more yellow in hue

If I have a morimoto hid kit and I want to upgrade can I just change out the bulbs or do I need to buy a new hid kit? Also morimoto vs GTR lightning??? Suggestion

As long as the wiring connectors on the bulbs are the same you're good to just swap them out. We have never tested these two bulbs side by side. I would expect very similar performance from the two!

i just bought the acme h1 HID bulbs for the acme super h1 projectors. I don’t know how they will attach to my stock H4 headlight plug in. Can anyone help me figure out if i need a adapter, or tell me how to wire it?

Maybe it's the camera but I can't hardly see a difference between the morimoto 4300 and 5500 is the lack of noticeable difference the same in person?

Yes you can tell the difference better in person. But the 4300 has a more yellow look to the color.

Want warm go with Philips XtremeVision Gen 2 @4800K. Cold go with Osram CBB, it’s about 5500K (5500-5600K is the same color as OEM LED)

How far was the projector from the center light meter? I have a pair of DDM tuning bulbs now and am attempting to decide if any of the TRS H1's are a worthwhile upgrade or not. --Cheers, All.

The first retro i did was on mk4 jetta, turned out not bad, but the second corolla 2006 it sucked, don’t understand wht i did wrong, cheap hid kit? Maybe, but was the same i used on the jetta, morimoto hid bulbs later i installed but the ballast and harness cheapo

4:26 Ha, when i bought XB 5500K bulbs from you a year or so ago i emailed you complaining about the nasty green hue. The response i got basically said that you've never heard of anything like that before and that i do not know what i'm talking about.

When I used morimoto ballasts mine were really blue. Switched to hylux ballasts and they're a crisp white now. Suspect it's not the bulbs causing the color.

Now that I received and properly installed them ,they do look greenish ,you can really tell when someone with real white sits beside you. Don't recommend these , get the cooler color if you are going morimoto

I hear 4300k is best for rainy night? But its also next to the yellow spectrum. Soooooo can anybody clarify for me cause this is frustrating

Yes, the warmer color are better for rain and fog conditions!

Unfortunately, Osram doesn't make any HID bulbs that would fit these H1 projectors.

@@RetrofitSource Are the XTR Philips significantly brighter then anything else to justify the cost? Or is there a more affordable brand that's close in lumens? I'm looking for 5k-55k. Last time I looked? You only had the XTR in 48k.....

I have Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 and also have both Morimoto XB 5500 and 6500. The color temperature doesn't look like what's shown on here. My 5500k looks more like 4500k, very warm color temperature. 6500k looks more like 5500k, very pure white. I just don't get it...

What ballasts are you using? The color ratings are for 35w ballasts. Higher wattage ballasts shift the color temp down.

@@jessewashere4734 Strange. At that point I can only assume a manufacturing defect with the morimoto bulbs. They're kinda cheap for a reason. I use the same bulbs, 6500K. My drivers side bulb is about right, but my passenger side is more of a pure white (even a little warm sometimes). Unfortunately we dont really get many quality options for H1 bulbs.

@@Icytits I am puzzled by it. My projectors are new, got them a couple months ago. Both set of bulbs were purchased within a year. Which was an improvement over the old projectors (probably because the company retrofited the cheap knockoffs and the reflector bowls started to fog up? They were only 3 years old) Morimoto mini H1 7.0 was an improvement but still not great. I think I might have to switch to a d2s projector to get the true color that I want?

@ Jesse, that's weird. I have Morimoto xb 9006 5500k bulbs @ 35watt. Very very nice white color. Had them in another car, same story. But they were,880 bulbs.

In your Experience / Peer Industry Knowledge, is there the EXCEPTION ?? In this case my car which is a Chrysler 200 that HID Kit is NOT COMPATIBLE ?? Under my belt for the past 6-years I must have had a good 5-Different Brand Kits Professionally Installed having ALL FAILED. Recently, Only going into 40-minutes of the install 1-bulb alternately worked progressing to NO Headlights. Kits ALL had Canbus Capacitor Relay Harness. Anxiety level would rise just before Sunset not knowing if I would be Stuck overnight traveling no lights resulting in the Shop restoring Original OEM BORING Headlights. Subscriber here I Value your Thoughts. Thanks !!!!

Hey Ben, I would question who installed your HIDs and also which HID brands were installed. We have had great experience installing our kits on all makes and models and find that a more quality kit lasts longer.

There are pros and cons to both, and sometimes it can depend on the year/make/model for what's best. Generally LED is easier, but HID does have its advantages since you can upgrade components within an HID kit.

Hello, it's because the DOT hasn't had the time to test all the LED/HID bulbs on the market because their main focus is manufactured vehicles.

Don't forget to mention cost. Yes you get 200 extra lux, but you also pay 4-5x as more. Might or might not be worth it for you.

my god i feel so far behind the lighting game.. i have an original set of xb 5500 in my car and sure there are better but i thought it was night and day difference from well halogen of course..
