0:00 Introduction: The problem with corticosteroids
1:45 Corticosteroid side effects
3:30 The best corticosteroid alternatives
8:27 Learn more about vitamin D!
The long-term effects of corticosteroids can be nasty. Today, I want to share some potential natural alternatives for corticosteroids that you can talk to your doctor about.
If a person takes something like prednisone long-term, they are susceptible to developing corticosteroid resistance. This means that it could stop working over time.
Potential side effects of corticosteroids:
• Cataracts
• Moodiness
• Weight gain
• Cushing’s syndrome
• Diabetes
• Osteoporosis
• Immunosuppression (immunodeficiency)
• Secondary infections
Natural corticosteroid alternatives:
1. Vitamin D3 (at least 20,000 IU)
2. Plant steroids (false unicorn root, licorice root, and fenugreek)
3. Adrenal glandular extract (grass-fed and freeze-dried)
4. TUDCA

Hi Lauren. Have you checked your vitamin D levels? I had the same problem. Joint pain that had me feeling like a 90 year old when I was only 40 so through blood work I found out I was severely vitamin D deficient. I started taking vitamin D3 + vitamin k2 and after 3 weeks in, the pain completely disappeared! Not sure if this may relate to you, but the relief I experienced was so drastic that I wanted to pass this info on in case it can help you too. Good luck on your health journey.

I have been taking prednisone for 23 years, because of a kidney transplant. I did gain a lot of weight, but now I got my weight down. Since taking prednisone, I have type 2 diabetes and cataracts. I read information that was given to me by my nephrologist. The information you are discussing is true. The opthalmologist said that my cataracts are mild. My doctor did put me on Vitamin D3 1000 IU in 2009. My diabetes has been bad. My a1c is 7.7 and I plan to see him for a physical on November 4, 2022. I have been using cinnamon and it has been helping me with my diabetes. Thanks for the information.

2 years ago I had chest infection. I do have asthma. While in the hospital they put me on 60 mg of prednisone every 8 hours. That's 180 mg a day. Over 40 side effects and I had 20 of them I thought I was going to go crazy I gained 60 plus pounds within 8 months. But eventually lost those 60 lb within another year. Prednisone is the worst. Everything tastes like prednisone. I've been suffering because of it 2 years later.

Not sure if this will matter to you, but what you are describing is a side effect, not an allergic reaction. Allergy means something very specific and usually will involve a rash, hives, and in more serious cases difficulty breathing or anaphylaxis. This is of course not to diminish the side effect your daughter had, as steroid induced psychosis is very serious as well.

For once I might be able to help Dr. I'm a landscaper and survival dude. Learn to identify poison ivy, I look for the uneven outer leaf. When I come in contact with it, you have 2-8 hrs to wash it off. Pay close attention to sensitive skin, in between fingers and back of upper arms. When I feel that certain itch, I use table salt. I get the area damp, then I gently rub in the salt and let it dry. Also I have heard jewel weed or Yarrow plant can neutralize it. I have never needed to use either. Hope this helps you or someone else. 👍
@michellebobier4471
@michellebobier4471 Жыл бұрын
Jewelweed definitely does work for PI! It's amazing. You can brew some in some water, let it steep, and then freeze it in an ice cube tray. That way, you can keep the jewelweed for a long time, and putting that ice cube on PI -- excellent.

@@michellebobier4471 thanks for sharing! I live in Mo. I am a plant guy and I haven't Identified that one. Yeah my doctor put me on prednisone for 5 days about a week ago for my allergies because the sinuses were starting to mess with my ears, or at least that's what he thinks is happening. And then as a result I got sick right after finishing the cycle🙃. It was the worst I've ever felt from a normal flu🙃. Still recovering from it. I then learn about what prednisone does. Thirty years ago, a doc put me on Prednizone (along with Theopheline, Ceftin, inhalant steroid, and Robutussin with Codeine) for asthma and borderline pneumonia (I was breathing at 28% lung capacity) and the flu. The side effects were horrific! I said never again then, and I've stood my ground since. I learned about natural healing from a client of mine and the only pharmaceutical I take now is Breo Ellipta (Fluticasone Furoate 100mcg and Vilanterol 25 mcg inhalation powder) but I only take one puff every 6 days. It's amazing to me that the doctor wanted me to take two puffs every morning and evening, and I do just fine with one puff every 6 days!!! I've already had the cataract surgery, and I have adrenal and cortisol issues. I've been trying to ween myself off Breo as well, hence the 1 puff/6 days, so this video is perfect for me! I already upped my Vitamin D to 20,000 iu/day, 40,000 iu when I remember to take my two evening capsules. Thank you Dr Berg for this info! It is greatly appreciated!

I'm already a difficult patient to treat....first & foremost in the fact that I should have died 5 times to date in my life. I was placed on a Pred pack about 4 wks. ago & see my primary on the 25th. Prior to this script, I'd not taken any steroid in over 3 decades. Nothing makes me comfortable...I'm in pain all the time & my spinal cord work injury that Work Comp refused to fix has left me w/o sleep for over 5 yrs. now. I've been through countless tests & WC finally swallowed their words & agreed all my health issues are their fault. I am elated that this video showed up in my sidebar today. I've been experiencing severe hunger issues at 10pm for almost 1 week now. I injured my C-spine a couple months ago & can't have surgery. I initially went w/o food....just forced a measured cup of rice w/broth into me daily for almost 3 wks. Even the sight of food made me nauseous...it was like I was pregnant but I had a hysterectomy in '93, so NOT possible. Even though I've been slowly eating solids again....as a woman of logic, the ONLY reason I could come up with is that my body somehow required these late night meals. This has NEVER happened to me, NOT even during my pregnancies. Thank you for posting the hunger side effects...it was driving me crazy! Cheers, ~ Covah

I have eosinophilic asthma that had a sudden onset last year. I take an injectible and all I could take was prednisone. NONE of the inhalers, pills, etc. worked except predisone. I was on it for months as I switched specialists every few months. I work outside so I get vitamin D and was taking the vitamin D and K supplements. No one can figure out what caused this. I've been healthy, workout everyday, hardly get sick, and am outside every day and have no major allergies whatsoever. I had this right before covid struck, so it wasnt due to covid directly. Specialists havent been super helpful and not much got figured out. This information has been so helpful for natural alternatives amd more in depth information than any doctors. I've had too some bad experience of corticoids. My own take of that is that corticoids are OK if it is to treat acute, extreme pains for a short time, i.e. a couple weeks max. No match. On the other hand, as said on this video, on the long run it can take you to a virtual health disaster.

There is a very important factor that you forgot to mention: how much dosage to use for what disease. For example, if I have severe poison ivy rash, and doctor would probably prescribe 30mg prednisone for first 3-5 days, then tapering it off. What dosage should I use with Adrenal Glandular or other supplements? Without this information, the advice is only half true because too little may not be effective. Anyone knows the answer or rough guideline?

I am so grateful for this great video, but have an important question about the use of licorice root. I had heard about it being bad to eat if you already suffer from high blood pressure, and have stayed away from eating it. But because it came up in this video, I decided to pause the video and look it up again online, and numerous sources state that licorice root can lead to DANGEROUSLY HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE and DANGEROUSLY LOW POTASSIUM LEVELS. According to one source, "Licorice contains glycyrrhizinic acid, which sets off a well-understood chain reaction of biochemical events in the body resulting in high blood pressure." Licorice root, in it's raw, whole form appears to be safe. But in more concentrated forms, like those found in extracts and also when used as a sweetener (because it is about 50x as sweet as sucrose), when used in things like soft drinks and snack foods, it can become a serious problem, especially if consumed regularly.

Dr. Berg thank you so much for your amazing continued dedication in educating the masses especially since Medical Care currently is less than satisfactory to say the least. I'm sure others as myself and have experience with my mom being elderly that there seems to be very minimal care. Treated like cattle. Rather than given a number you're only known by your social security number, given the good enough clinical and you're walking out the door. It's that attitude that now my mother who was released a day after surgery last week who should not have been, is now fighting for her life in the icu. Why was she released? Because they needed the bed more than they needed the body to occupy it. And that was the honest truth I'm not just saying that. I'm only telling this because I have been watching your videos for a few years now and I know in my heart a lot of the things that you have put out there would have helped her greatly but she put all of her faith in prescription medication. It's from being on a lot of those that have brought us to where we are now including complete stage 5 kidney failure she was on at least three medications for other things but that is a side effect of those medications or as I prefer to phrase it consequences. When you are caregiver you have to do a lot of research but she is independent and not a ward so I had to sit by, put in my two cents worth when I could and watch this all play out as I knew it would. I myself am asthmatic, arthritic and have been on Prednisone more times than I can count all throughout my youth for it. In the last two years my mom was put on it quite frequently for her arthritis and pneumonia. As a matter of fact she was on it before this last surgery. I experienced a lot of the side effects. In fact I was 40 lb overweight through majority of my junior high days and unfortunately once I was finally taken off of it and that weight went away I went from being called some unpleasant things to people assuming I had an eating disorder which wasn't the case because they didn't know what the story was. It's very difficult to be on the medication that overpowers you so much. I was constantly hungry and eating I couldn't stop, I would get angry, definitely had the moon face going on and of course the weight gain came with the eating regardless of how active I was. My friends and I give it the title it deserves. Evil. I was in an accident a few years ago which I was hit head-on directly in the trigonomial nerve so I'm incredibly appreciative that you mentioned that about your friend because that is a possibility that they had discussed with me but given my previous experience with prednisone I'm fighting to the nail to do anything but take that evil stuff. From watching your videos and getting educated about inflammation, cleaning out the radicals and junk in your body I can honestly say finally after 5 years the pain has almost completely subsided. I never thought I'd be a day without pain and they told me that I would be dealing with it for the rest of my life. It does flare up I believe my glands in that area were also affected so they puff up sometimes I'm not sure what causes it I'm still trying to figure that out but their solution is to take everything out. I don't believe that's necessary I just need to figure out why my body is working the way it is from this impact it took. I don't make you solely responsible for my medical health but I think your advice is incredible and stands true. I definitely use it and do research and so far everything that I have chosen to apply from your education has honestly helped me immensely. When I've improved in something trying some of your advice my doctors will ask what I've done differently and I tell them. I do it smart and wisely and so far it has not done me wrong. So thank you so much I hope you know how incredibly appreciated you are!

Deborah, have you tried also putting your dog on a human meant and carrot eating plan. My sister had two dogs who were getting older and were to the point of barely walking. She had put herself on a grain free, sugar free and dairy free diet, and her discs issues were gone within weeks. One day she realized this eating plan might also help her dogs, and so she began feed them what she was feeding herself. The difference was remarkable for her and for both dogs.
