Autoimmune disease is, by far, the most widespread chronic health condition today, with a prevalence greater than heart disease, cancer, and diabetes combined. It is staggering! Sadly, however, conventional medicine is making numerous mistakes when it comes to treating patients with autoimmune disease by attempting to manage symptoms rather than resolve the root cause and heal the body.
In this episode of my Masterclass series, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about what’s really behind the rates of climbing autoimmune disease. We discuss environmental and dietary changes, reduction in quality of food, and much more-and then what we can do to heal.
Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry. His podcast, The Dhru Purohit Podcast, is a top 50 global health podcast with over 30 million unique downloads. His interviews focus on the inner workings of the brain and the body and feature the brightest minds in wellness, medicine, and mindset.
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, ButcherBox, and Pendulum.

My uncle was diagnosed with RA as a young adult. He was supposed to be in a wheelchair by age 40. His family began growing most of their own food and went completely organic. He is in his 70s now and still goes country line dancing and works his homestead. No RA.

I can't afford food and I have been in chronic pain for 6 months. The cost of living I can't have my grass fed, organic food. I am miserable as the big pharma put me on Prednisolone. Bad side effects I've only been on them two weeks but forced to a corner I couldn't walk or get out of bed. The doctor said hopefully we can wean you off them in Three weeks. But there must be some minerals vitamins that can do the trick on Polymyalgia Rheumatica. For me ? The side effects cataracts, excess weight, hair loss, thin skin, buffalo nape, moon face, fungoidal toe nails, Leukemia, cancers, 3 stone gain, etc that's just for starters. I need advice would Magnesium Bisglyconate help or Glycinate, or Citrate? With pumpkin seeds for Zinc I have to come off these prescription symptoms killers Help 🇬🇧

Work-related stress, only 4-5 hours sleep at night for 3 years, caused me Graves desies. Thanks God I'm in remission fast after therapy, because my food is good, I also use herbals (not only medicaments) and put in control of sleeping and stress. Stress is a huge factor for bad desies at all. I understood that It's so important stomach, blood, heart and liver to be in a good condition for those autoimmune desies. We must do prevention and support many organs and systems in our body. May be this is sound difficult, but it's a lesson in our lives that we must to learn.

Most autoimmune diseases come from psychological conditions and the food you eat, monitor your body when you eat or drink certain things, how it reacts, get rid of the things that torment you in life, this way you will also get rid of autoimmune diseases, everything is simple. @@sebastianliwinski222 Dear friend, if I'm not mistaken, this is a problem in the functioning of hormones? See, try to find natural supplements that will help you. Monitor your body when you eat and drink certain things, how the body will react. Try different things, look for a solution, pray to God if you are religious. Read, research about your disease, ask questions to other people who are struggling with this disease, and you will eventually find a solution for yourself. It's all in you never give up. I can tell you that I couldn't write to you today, I would probably be dead if I agreed with the doctor's opinion, which in 2018 gave me a maximum of 5 years to live. Because it was a progressive lung disease with no existing cure. I can tell you that I was the only patient with such a disease in the entire country of Slovenia in Europe. It was still a lot of pressure that no one could help me. So that if I managed to heal and live on, so can you and everyone, you just have to wish. It was very, very difficult, but I succeeded. I wish you to get well and feel good.

Sickness is a symptom of something else!! What's the something else? That's the question? Normally diet and/or environment, and in rare cases your DNA. Those questions should be the MDs line of thought! Stop attacking the symptoms, there's the mistake. Just my opinion

We had a zoom visit with a rheumatologist in upstate New York. Although the doctor himself was out of Michigan, this morning for my husband who's been diagnosed with pseudogout. The doctor agreed and even asked us symptoms seem to worsen and he has these " flare-ups" when he eats foods high in purine and we rattled off a whole list that he's had to cut out. So the doctor agreed with this fact. Yet when he wanted to run some tests and testing for inflammation as well as rheumatoid arthritis, He told me there was no correlation between diet and lifestyle with either of these...oh really?? 🤦🏼

MCTD and Lupus are quite similar. So whatever is good for Lupus is also good for MCTD. And to be honest, the cure for MCTD, LUPUS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto, etc are all the same. Anti-Inflammatory diet or AIP, dealing with mold or metals in the body if that is the cause, moving your body as much as you can, but not overdoing it - causes inflammation!; And eliminating stress!!! from your life and learning to appreciate what you have. You can eat healthy, be active, but if you don't eliminate stress, there won't be no healing, as there is such thing as gut-brain axis. Your brain affects your gut and microbiome, and vice versa!. All the best wishes and stay strong while healing yourself!

I often wonder about non-confronted emotional pain, shame, and trauma and how it plays a role in causing autoimmune problems? Huberman’s latest video on “The Writing Protocol” and its profound impact on easing stress, anxiety and and lessening autoimmune issues would suggest a connection. Unresolved emotional pain really does seem to impact the immune system. Sarno’s mind body psychosomatic concepts come to mind as well as Tom Laughlin’s work with cancer patients having them pursue unfulfilled goals and dreams instead of their “pay the bills” job. I saw huge changes, not a cure, but quality of life changes, when I addressed the possible psychological aspects of autoimmune disease in myself. Applying Sarno to the root causes of my autoimmune disorder helped.

It all sounds wonderful, but if insurance covers my drug so that instead of $50k/year I pay only $3k/year, that is affordable, and it's well-established medicine, even if it isn't perfect. But if I have to pay out of pocket (because functional medicine isn't covered by insurance) $20k or $30k, and it *might* work or it might not, that's harder to budget for. But if money was no object, I'd try it in a heartbeat.

correction, there is a list of food to eat & not eat. It's known as the blood type food chart. Eating for your blood type is extremely effective. Now, this chart is merely a guide. One must test all the foods, over the course of a year to truly know. The most effective way is, to get your fill of each food the guide chart show is beneficial. That means breakfast, lunch, dinner. Sleep it off, pay attention to how you feel waking up the day. If you feel like you can pick up & throw a building, it's beneficial. If you don't, it's toxic & inflammatory. We must respect our body's divine design. There's also a list that tells you what oils, acids, spices, herbs, roots, extracts, & fugus. Are your body's true medicine, through your blood type. It's highly effective, & long lasting. Big pharma suppresses this info & discredits it. Because, they lose a lot of money. "nothing personal, just business"...

I'm in the UK and was diagnosed with lupus and APS 20 years ago. I see my rheumatologist every 6-8 months and he always runs antibody tests to check where I am at. Sometimes it shows I am technically in "remission" even though I still have symptoms (very common in lupus) and my antibodies are also checked for associated AI illness ie Hashimoto's, Mixed Connective Tissues, Graves. . I also have bloods done every 4 weeks to monitor my general health and inflammation as I take powerful immune suppressants and I have DXA scans, MRI, CT scans etc when required. I've been tested for coeliac and other intolerances so perhaps UK doctors are just more thorough than those in America? I do use diet and supplements to aid my symptoms but I take multiple medications to control the actual lupus and I will continue to do that as they saved my life. Luckily I don't have to pay for my medical care. Every single person with AI illness is different and it is irresponsible to say that anything can "cure" AI illness as there are many studies showing genetic links to AI.

@@zolenamckenzie1084 totally agree. Most people here are here because they have issues of different kind and gravity and are looking for solutions, and most of the time don't have a choice but to take antibiotics to alleviate their pain. Having someone intruding with how proud and good they are not having any issues (which is most likely due to chance i.e. genetics) is far from helpful.

There are a lot of things you can do for free/at low cost if you can't start an expensive treatment. Here are some ideas that I've been using or are looking to start. I hope it can help someone. 1. Remove toxins from your environment, all artificial cleaners, switch to Eco/bio/organic. Use organic cosmetics (at least try to whenever you can). Check if there is mold in your home and remove it. Some furniture and bed mattresses are toxic 2. Remove toxins from your food, eat organic if you can. Don't use teflon pans. Don't use plastic bottles because they contain BPA, also all food that is wrapped in plastic should be avoided for the same reason ( I Heard of someone who get rid of their disorder only by removing all BPA from their food) Try to buy food on a local farmers market or maybe directly from a farmer? 3. Diet - there are many completely oposite diets that seem to be working for people with autoimmune disorders and they have one thing in common: giving up eating processed foods, sugar, gluten, alcohol, sometimes diary and eating healthy foods, homemade meals. 4. Water - take a look on how much water you drink a day and how you drink it - do you mix it with food? Check the Japanese Water Diet - it determines how much water to drink per day and when ( never mix water with food). In my case it has greatly reduced my brain fog and raised my energy levels 5. Stress - Try to create an everyday mindfulness routine for yourself to calm down your nervous system: breathing exercisess ( Wim Hoff, 4-7-8 method, breathing for limphatic system etc), EFT also called tapping, yoga, meditations. 6. Suplements- according to Dr. Berg there is one witamin that helps tremendously for autoimmune diseases- Wit. D. Most of those things are free or not very expensive, you can introduce a couple of them, and I think they are a good point to start.

This is all great ! One thing that is controversial is the water with food issue! Some say it shouldn’t affect digestion because water is a byproduct of bile, others say you dilute your stomach acid! I remember healing my leaky gut once and part of what I did is drink a huge cup of water after meals ! Some people eat lots of soups made of animal meats and it is very healing regardless of it being 70% water ! I guess every one is different!
