I've got some old amps with legit Toshiba's in them. I'd consider pulling them all and replacing with a viable readily-available component, considering what the legit Toshiba's are worth. Problem is, the market is so flooded with fakes, I'd couldn't even sell the legit ones if I wanted to. Everybody would just assume they're fakes and not pay the current market value for them. I can't blame them either, I've been burned myself.

Anytime or anything to do with amplifiers or any components that go into amplifiers I would only consult the master, BBI. There are so many scammers & fake components you can only trust the very few. TMP Unit 22 from N.J.

BBI are the chicoms faking the BLF188XR or the MRF300 LDMOS chips or as long as we buy from reputable USA sources is it not a worry?
@TheEmbeddedHobbyist2 жыл бұрын
If you find the vender or manufacturer your problem will be of consistency. There will be no form of quality control unless you demand it and then the price goes right up. I hear engineers saying that we will buy a cheap part and test it to make sure it meets our specification and buy them! When you point out you will need to fully test every one as the manufacture will change bits on the fly as long as his part still works to his requirements. So if you test it down to -20°C and it works tick in the box, if they change the grease the next batch might freeze solid at -1°C and your product is down along with your reputation. I guess you know which bit takes the longest to get back to where it was.

How’zit BBI you should build (2) exactly same 2-pill amps using the 10 rated Transistors in 1 amp and shoot the video. Then swap it out with the 9 and do the same and document it’s performance on output power & voltage handling. And in the second amp the real Toshiba’s and do the same exact testing and comparison. It will be interesting to see, and I don’t think any other builders will even do that to show people what the Chinese Toshiba Transistors are putting out on the market nowadays in what it’s performance and it’s output power of what to expect versus the HG which we all no. Have a good one Aloha

Have you ever compared original 2879's to the NTE470 "equivalents"? I'd be interested in the data as I'm currently rebuilding the "brick" on a Drake TR7. Thanks for the vids! Bob

Can you put the 'good' fakes in a box and see how they compare to the real deal? Are they drop in replacements, or do you need to change the input/output circuits of the devices you can get in volume? How do they do when you thrash them to the limit (high voltage/saturation) like you used to be able to do with the Toshibas?
@BoxBuilderIdaho2 жыл бұрын
Well we cannot have that discussion until we have some place that we can go get a large quantity of good fakes

There must be some way to contact the people who sold you the 9 and 10. Then get a good translator to explain what you want from them. Is it really that hard for these people to supply a consistent quality product to a repeat customer? Maybe you will get lucky. I want to see transistors with your logo on them.
