Today I'm demonstrating the greatest anti-aging device there ever was.
It's low cost, works in an instant and, in the right quantities, erases virtually all signs of aging on the skin.
From wiping wrinkles, lifting jowls and erasing dark circles to whitening teeth, this low-cost device really does to it all.
I am of course talking about lighting. So let me show you just exactly what a difference it can make to skin.

This was very interesting and definitely gives me a better perspective on “results” photos that purport to “prove” effectiveness of a product. It also explains why I look one way in my bathroom mirror (with a combo of overhead LED and natural light) and then it’s “what the heck 😬” in my car visor mirror 😂.

When i see before and after photos taken by dermathologists, influencers or beauty clinics and i see that the diffrencd in lightning or mimics, or make up, i instantly reject that channel or product or whatevere they are selling. I ask myself " if they lie to me in the photos, mabe they lie also about the results and they want only to sell, not to help. I appreciate your honesty and that is why i am here. Good video !

It is off-putting. It is very hard to replicate natural light which is an ongoing hazard for me, but at least it's natural. When you have a dimly lit before shot and then a much brighter after shot it's not fair to the viewer at all.

Same here . I watched a Wayne Goss video many years ago that spoke about this subject. That video was very helpful for me to see the lighting was being manipulated by many influencers. And the before and after photos thing has always been a red flag for me too . 😊

Yes they always do a bare bulb, from a bad angle to highlight and shade and cause unflattering shadows, and their second pics are always a diffused softbox and ring light or flash, and it softens everything. It’s no accident. That’s why we follow the Honest channel!

Clare this video is a game changer! I feel really naive because all this time I've been frustrated because I could never get the same results as the influencers we see on social media. Who knew there was so much power in lighting. Thankyou ❤ I also love how your husband is so supportive and involved.

You always look lovely! But I like a slightly brighter light than the one suggested by Mr. Honest Channel. So one point for Team Claire! 😄 Although I wasn’t super surprised by the effect of lighting, I found your points and tips very intriguing and helpful. I have thought a lot about how we perceive ourselves and each other through different mediums versus face-to-face. My conclusion is that we rely mostly on intangible cues when face-to-face; and we don’t necessarily notice imperfections as much. We are more focused with how the other person feels to us. On the other hand, through media, the intangible cues are muted, and so we focus more on physical imperfections. I don’t think that is incredibly revelatory, but I did have to sort that out for myself. I detest unposed, spontaneous pictures, because it is impossible for me to appear in them as I see myself. So I tell myself that it’s just the medium that mutes my better points. 😊

Really interesting points. I think you’re right that we tend to focus on visuals when we’re looking at people on screen because those other cues from direct interaction are missing.

So appreciate this video, Clare. Truthful and refreshing. There is no such thing as perfection and we all need to be reminded of that, especially in this climate where there is put on us a burdensome weight to have a perfect image, flawless beauty and an ageless body. We need to take a step back and be aware of what is real and what is not. You help us do that, Clare, and … I think I’ll pick up one of those lights. 😅

Important topic even if one isn’t on camera - you’re always “on” at home, and interior lighting can make or break a flattering effect on people’s appearance and the overall feeling of the environment. Ceiling lights cast shadows, and many LEDs and fluorescents have unflattering color. Strategically placed table and floor lamps, with nicely colored bulbs, make a massive difference! I’m partial to a color of roughly 2000 to 3800 Kelvin to create a comfortable ambiance depending on the room. Pink incandescent bulbs used to be a decorator secret in creating a flattering space. I have received compliments over the years on my home being pretty, welcoming, comfortable, etc., when people have visited in the evening, and I am positive it is really just about the lighting, unfortunately, many people don’t realize they can easily create the same effect in their own homes - just turn off the overheads and buy new bulbs!

Thank you for bringing this subject to light 💡. Hahaha …no pun intended. I really appreciate your honesty in showing us the difference in your appearance with various lighting. I admit, I’ve seen some influencers in photos in a natural setting and was shocked how less than perfect they look. Their skin was imperfect and wrinkled. It made me question their skincare advice because we weren’t truly seeing their skin as it is. It does seem to make them appear less than honest and less credible when they appear perfectly lit and flawless in their videos. I think a happy medium is a good idea. Of course we want to look our best but the total honest image portrayed is part of their influencer persona.

Keep us the honest lighting . I’ve always appreciated that about you . And as I said , you look gorgeous in all light. You’ve taken care of your skin and it shows . Thanks for not lying to us 🥰. As others have stated, I still compare myself to those who I know are using lighting tricks . I was in a paid beauty group and was just certain the influencer wasn’t using those kinds of tricks. I was sure she had just gotten her skin flawless from devices and treatments. I was all set to buy anything she promoted . But one day , I saw a short video she had just posted where her skin looked flawless for a moment , then suddenly, there were pores and wrinkles that showed up that weren’t there before. Her filter had failed . I suddenly realized she’d been using a filter the whole time and it failed halfway through the short video. The video suddenly disappeared , almost as soon as it had been posted. By that point, I’d grown tired of her condescending ways anyway, so I left her group. My mom had kept telling me she probably used a filter . But I didn’t realize filters could be so subtle and realistic looking. I’d always assumed filters were only for pictures and that they couldn’t be used in a video. I don’t like filters myself, so I don’t know much about them . I’ve seen myself filtered and all it did was make me fell less attractive in real life . I’d rather use anti filter and then look in the mirror and feel even better 🤣
@thehonestchannel
@thehonestchannel 28 күн бұрын
Love the idea of a filter that makes you look worse so we look better in real life : ) Those aging filters on TikTok are a bit like that. I think in an age where AI is going to become part of the culture, it's going to become harder to trust what we see which is a shame.
@littlebeebs1
@littlebeebs1 27 күн бұрын
YES ! Haha ! I actually first saw myself with a filter by accident. It was a haircut try on app . It took the liberty of either rewinding my age or aging me depending on the haircut. When I saw myself looking 20 again, but better, it made me hate how I looked in the present . But once I saw it could age me , turn me into a male and several other things, I played around with it . One made me look almost exactly like my maternal grandmother! That one was cool 😎. One made me look just like my brother . I told my mom that I could catfish women with it if I were the mean type . My hairdresser saw the one where I looked 20 again by accident when I was showing her the haircut I wanted. She said “ Wow ! You look great in that picture! You look like a different person!” . She had no idea it was a filter til I told her . Made me feel even older . Don’t think she realized that she wasn’t paying me a compliment 🤣. Thank you for your reply. You’re right. It’s hard to know who to trust these days . Too easy to make yourself look so different. ❤️

Having lived 2 decades in Hollywood & NYC, I was taught that if you want to casually insult an actor or model, you wait until they show you a professional photo of themselves and then tell them "Wow, that photo of you is really well-it." Not kidding. lol Something I would never be cruel enough to say to someone so dependent on external validation. Also, I think it's quite courageous to marry a film/lighting geek. I imagine he would be very concerned with the appropriate lighting to light you in the most flattering way before your more intimate encounters. ; ) lol Lighting has been making beauties even more beautiful since photography became a medium back in the 19th century.

I’m a professional film celebrity makeup up artist(this is my only form of income and I’ve done quite well for over 30 years in it) and I disagree with changing the placement of your blush and eyebrow color. You do a great job. If I was doing your makeup the only difference I would choose is to choose a felt tip brow marker in the same color you use and use micro blading type strokes . But the color is great, it matches your shadow root and intensifies your eyes . BTW of course I’m also going to say this lighting video was spot on and I’m glad to hear you and your husband settled in the hybrid lighting . It’s perfect ! Keep it real!
