@@Victor-rb6pq it's dumb but they aren't average either. They're suppose to very smart. His power set was geared towards that type. Like a comment mentioned at first it came from bad writing in JL stories. But then it happened in his comics. Its definitely dumb though.

Same boat here about rejecting campy Batman in my teens and loving lighter toned Batman later on. Love The Batman and Arkham Verse and such. But I’m KICKING myself for not being into Brave in the bold back then. It’s honestly up there for me with BTAS as peak Batman. That last episode where it’s wrapping up and breaking down the sets had me in tears can’t lie. Was such a fun show and I didn’t want it to be over.

Yeah, I think this is the experience of a lot of us who grew in the 90s/00s. We probably saw reruns of Batman as kids, loved it for how fun and silly it was, but became angsty teenagers and got it into our heads that the Adam West show isn't the "real" Batman! (plenty of us also probably bought into the idea that there shouldn't be a Robin). Time cures most illnesses, though, so now as adults we can learn to appreciate how friggin great that old show was.

My good friend Dominic has always maintained that Batman is the best literary character, because he's so fluid that you can plop him down in any situation, in any iteration and *he just works*. Your video is a testament to that. Some of my personal favourites are on this list, especially the wilder and frankly sexier versions of the Caped Crusader.

Funny thing with nostalgia is that it’s usually only one aspect for why a person likes something. One piece of a larger puzzle. Like if a person says they like stuff from the 80’s that’s not the same thing as saying everything that everybody put out in the 80’s was perfect and everything from any other decade sucks even if that person maybe does have a preference for pop culture or comics etc. from that time.

The Batman is the best adaptation of Batmans boots striding in rain puddles. They even found a way to make batman stride in the rain upside down. Keaton has always been my guy, '89 and Returns were never going to be topped. But when I first watched Reeves' The Batman at the cinema, I remember thinking "Wow. My family and friends are not going to believe me when I tell them this might be better." Then, as the film progressed I was thinking "No! What are doing? You almost had it!" I totally agree with you on the Falcone being Catwoman's father reveal. It really made redundant the whole plot point about seeking revenge for her best friend (perhaps lover?). Here's hoping they learn from their mistakes for the sequel.

As a comics fan, I was always leery of their adaptations into other media. And it's long bothered me that the other media always seems to get more respect and attention than the original comic book source material. I got started in comic books in 1978, with Batman being my favorite, so I'm biased towards the 70s Bronze Age versions of comic characters and universes. I never forgave DC for Crisis on Infinite Earths for not only getting rid of the multiverse they had spent so many years building up, but that they did it *retroactively,* as if the multiverse had never existed. But I've become more lenient as I've gotten older. I eventually realized that the 1970s Batman was itself a variation and adaption of previous versions of the Batman. And if comics are so variable and malleable, then maybe there's nothing wrong with the various TV and movie adaptations, even if they approach it differently. Comics characters seem to go from one extreme to another, either being silly and campy, or being overly dark and gritty and depressing. What's wrong with being serious but hopeful, with the occasional bad joke and a happy ending? My idea of a great Batman movie would be somewhat more realistic and down to earth, but with a strong international flavor, like a Bond movie that travels to different parts of the world for different scenes. Several of the better Batman stories involving Ra's Al Ghul would be a great basis for such a movie. Ra's would be a great Bond villain, for that matter. Or perhaps even the Al Goodwin/Walt Simonson Manhunter story that Batman was brought into near the end. It could easily be rewritten so that Batman has a bigger part in the story. But in the end, I find I'm happier not making comparisons, and just enjoying something on its own terms, regardless of its source material.

My favorite video game reviewer ever is Mark Bussler because of how highly subjective his reviews are. Hearing someone's passionate opinion about a piece of art can be an opportunity to learn and expand one's pallet and lens in which they view art, which often leads to also having an expanded view of life and others. That's why art is powerful. An "objective" review is often just a guide for my wallet.

The thing with "The Batman", it's the film we should have gotten instead of The Dark Knight Rises. The Batman would have been a much better conclusion. It slots right in with very little change, too. Begins and Dark Knight take place in what appears to be over the course of a few months (excepting the prolog backstory of course), so The Batman's "Year Two" Batman would still make sense and work. He's hunted by the police, which fits the ending of TDK. And it could have ended with his big redemption saving the people showing everyone he really isn't the enemy. I wish I could headcanon in The Batman into the Nolan series and just pretend that's in continuity because it's really the conclusion to that series we deserved.

@muticere If Bane was real, he'd break your fucking back for saying that shit. TDKR is leaps and shoulders better than The Batman. Nolan did something beyond what Reeves will probably be chicken about and that's FINALLY GIVING Bruce a happy ending with Selina. Not saying that Reeves himself won't do it but if he goes full Tom King, he will have destroyed Batman legacy more than Schumacher or Tom King did to the mythos of the character. Bale and Affleck combined>>>>>>>>>>Battinson

The Batman is the best one by far. It is a very realistic take but still has some of the over the top elements of the universe. Also the star of the movie was Gotham. Showing the underlying environment Batman has to deal with but that it’s still worth fighting for or some shit. Unlike Zack Snyder’s trash take where it was gritty and dark for no reason, this movie didn’t try to make it a theme but explored it in the environment. It didn’t come off as fake.

I was going to comment on how weird it is you put some commercial and other weird media into your list. However I think I understand why you put them. These kind of weird niche parts of a character's mythos are just as important as the high budget movies and ongoing comic books. My dad often speaks of how at the peak of my spider man obsession, I would notice anything with a spider man on it, be it a snack at some local store or a bootleg toy that just illegally had the likeness the superhero on it. Props on you for showing how a myth grows from just a story passed around and told, to a household name everyone big and small knows of.

I think my only major difference of opinion is with the combat in the Arkham games being better than the Spider-Man games. For me, that's like saying Super Mario Bros plays better than Super Mario World. One leads into another, Arkham walked so that Spider-Man can run, so to speak. I love the combat in the Arkham games, but I feel like Spider-Man took everything from those games and improved on all of it. If the combat flow in Arkham is amazing, Spider-Man is Superior, Ultimate even 😉
