My review of the 2019 and 2020 Labegorce: I tried each of these wines again in the past couple weeks and ordered another case of each, I now have like 16 bottles of each in my cellar. Chateau Labergorce is smoking! Both of these wines are brilliant and if you were going to ask me blind which appellation, maybe I'm being overly enthusiastic in the moment, but I would vote without hesitation... Margaux. I've been so enthusiastic about the 2019 and 2020 Bordeaux vintages. The pricing has been like, what?, how can you buy from the US or any other region? I mean, these two vintages of Labegorce closer to $30 than $40? Really? Tell me where that compares anywhere in the world, I'm here to listen, I'm guessing I'm going to fight you. Folks, every BWEer should have a case of 2019 and 2020 Labegorce in their cellar. You can get both of them in the $30 range, they are both drinkable now and for the next 20+ years, and, most importantly, they are very much "Margaux".... 2019 has typically been slightly more structured than the slightly more ebullient 2020s but in this case I truly can't pick which I like better, the 2019 or 2020 Labegorce, so, when factoring in the PRICE (a HUGE factor, in my book), I'm rating both of these wines 95+ points. These are STUNNING Margaux appellation efforts at stunning prices. You are insane not to buy a case each of these two Labegorce vintages.

The Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte was recently at Costco for around %$21. Knowing the reputation of the Smith Haut Lafitte I took a chance and bought a bottle. it was a superb value for the money! Regrettably it was some time before I opened it and when i went back to purchase a case, it was all gone. You snooze, you lose.

While many wine influencers and enthusiasts can recommend a good Bordeaux, I trust only a few - and at the top of that list is you. Take for example, this video - obviously a product of excellent research, exceptional knowledge, and extraordinary experience in the world wine. So these are recommendations I know I can and should take seriously. This is such a timely video because I’ve been recently beefing up my little Bordeaux collection and looking specifically for 2018 and 2019 vintages. Pleased to see my favorite appellations in your selection! Thank you for this very impressive video! I appreciate not only the visual and verbal content but also the production and editing value. Congratulations on yet another outstanding piece of wine content! Santé, John!

Great information and well done on the research. With 10,000 producers in Bordeaux it’s a minefield. I was there last week and they were picking the Merlot. Small berries from a dry year. Very impressed with Pessac Leognan and graves in general. These wines are giving the Medoc a run for their money now. I spent a lovely few hours with Jean-Pierre Meslier in Ch Raymond Lafon in Sauternes. We tasted the 2015. Interesting to see and taste the botrysised grapes before picking.

John, great video and very informative. I have another suggestion for a future video. "Estate-bottled" is a phrase not typically printed on a wine label. Their absence means the grapes used to make the wine were purchased from another party outside the wineries appellation. It would be interesting to learn how many wineries purchase their grapes rather than farming their own, and which famous wineries purchase some/all of their grapes. Thanks - Ed

I have something to test your knowledge. Not sure if you can answer it. I have noticed a pattern lately. This applies to both Bordeaux and Cabs. Since about 2015, the wines appear to be getting better. I am wondering if there has been a change in the wine making techniques lately. By the way. My method of measurement for this observation is the CellarTracker app. The app allows people like you and I to give our own rating. This creates a rating average which I value far more than any magazine. These averages have been noticeably higher across the board. Have you heard anything. Thanks

Thanks! In Napa, they have scaled back on the percentage of new oak used for maturation. And Bordeaux has benefited from global warming and ideal weather certainly in 2015, 2016, & 2018-2020.
