@@thatsweetroar You're very right that things will vary from day to day - I find I can do my best in the morning on an empty stomach! Improvements are subtle and gradual, but when I first started I could only really feel my breath when lying down, now I can hit the 35-40 second mark standing up. I've been writing it all down, which is definitely key! Thanks for all your hard work and positivity ♡

So I started these a few weeks ago after your video was recommended by my voice instructor. I'm a brass player, so the hiss was no problem to do 60-70 seconds right away. I was starting out with only getting around 35 seconds of singing a tone though. Now I'm up to 45 seconds and it's definitely helping with some of my softer lyrical singing as well as falsetto.

Brian that's great improvement, you should be so proud! 🙂 I'm so glad it's helping with exactly the type of singing it is meant to help with (lower intensity singing). And please say a heartfelt thank you to your lovely voice instructor for sending my video to you!

Very good exercises! Do you have any advice or suggestions for singers with seasonal allergies? It’s getting to that time of year where it is ten times harder to sing comfortably, and I don’t want to hurt myself. Thanks!

Hi Kayla, I'm so sorry you're struggling with allergies. Do you know what specifically you're allergic to (as in, is it hayfever/pollen, dust, mould etc)?

I think I felt some muscles I wasn't aware of initially when doing this. I thought of keeping my flank area spread out to the sides and I was able to hold the hiss for longer. Am I doing this right? I had no idea about keeping that area expanded. Edit: I guess we need to strengthen the muscles thay delay the diaphragm rising. It must be easier for some people than others based on body type.

Hello. So I recently joined choir and I find myself out of breath very often. My maestro told us to practice breathing. Can I use these exercises? Much thanks :) Also, do I need to train diaphragm breathing?
@thatsweetroar
@thatsweetroar Жыл бұрын
Hi Martha, yes you can definitely use these exercises and my video on the inhale should help you with what you've called "diaphragm breathing." The other possibility with running out of breath is that your vocal cords might not be completely connecting (if so you might hear breath leaking out and creating a breathy tone to your voice).

I'm in the process of trying to recover my breath control after my back blew. I am starting to notice that it is happening a little at a time but I believe this particular exercise is going to get me back to where I want to be. Thanks for sharing this. Perfect timing.

Thanks so much for your comment, I'm so glad you liked the old version. I redid it because the way I'm teaching the inhale has changed slightly so I didn't want there to be conflicting info. I hope you understand but again thanks for the lovely comment about the previous one. :)

@thatsweetroar
@thatsweetroar 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hailey, I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with throat tension. I know that feeling well and it can be frustrating and upsetting. Unfortunately throat tension is one of those issues that needs a little more information. So... Do you feel it all the way through your range or only when you go up in pitch? Is it the same when you sing lighter/more heady or only when you add power/belt? Were you ever taught to lift your soft palate? Let's start there. :)
@crazyforariana
@crazyforariana 2 жыл бұрын
It is 100% when I start to go up in pitch; more specifically with my belt range. I didn't do this in the past but now being out of choir for 2 years and not singing as much, it's been a really big issue.

Hi Stephen, if you're wanting power it's definitely not "control" you want to focus on. I have a couple of videos about support that could be helpful for the direction it sounds like you want to go. Perhaps start here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtdzkql3yJfSmmw.html and let me know how you go. :)

Does Breathing Open Up Your Throat Permanently So That When When You Sing There Is No Blockage??
@thatsweetroar
@thatsweetroar 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lebohang, I'm not really sure what the blockage is that you're feeling, but you'll want to teach your body how to use your breath as fuel (breath SUPPORT) to start with to relieve strain and tension. My video on that is here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJZlhLaLrtzTiJ8.html Let me know how you go practicing that technique!

My girlfriend is really disappointed that i can do it for longer than her even though shes a singer and im not. Is there a reason for that? Do men have some sort of natural advantage or is it just a coincidence?
@thatsweetroar
@thatsweetroar 2 ай бұрын
Actually yes. I looked this up and this one study out of Montréal noted that "The volume of adult female lungs is typically 10-12% smaller than that of males who have the same height and age." So there you go (hopefully your girlfriend feels a little better now). 😊
