Great rundown Nick. As an Osmo Action 1 user myself I give this a whole-hearted yes and amen. My Osmo Action has been mostly flawless. Randomly the loop recording will change from the 5:00 that I prefer and go to 1:00. It is rare but it does happen maybe every 1 in 15 trips. I really don’t love the ext mic attachment in an action environment - I find it hard to keep that USB-C secure which results in the mic ever so slightly (looks connected but isn’t) disconnecting resulting in even worse audio than had I used the standard onboard mic Hindsight feature sounds AMAZING!…still not enough to make me switch but I’m with you on the DJI firmware update. When I know I’m filming for an extended period of time waiting on fish I’ll film in a 5:00 loop. If…big IF…I catch something I’ll complete the catch/release etc. and then hit stop recording. Then immediately go back to a 5:00 loop so in the middle of a bunch of 5:00 loops, I’ll have the one clip that is an odd number. I’ve got my eyes on the #3. I’m hopeful for some more innovative features like you mentioned. Really nice video!

I just sent both my GoPro Hero8 cameras back for warranty replacement. We'll see how that goes. They were great in the beginning, but almost a year later one completely died. Then the other became unusable because it would hang in the middle of recording. I suspect heat was a problem but it never threw heat warnings. It is super frustrating to miss a good catch because your camera craps out when you aren't looking.

What package would you get with it the 3? Would you get the fishing? Adventure ? I’ll record on my kayak some and some on my chest

My first experience with GoPro was the Hero 9 Black and all the accessories needed to make two of them have great audio and stabilized video with the Max lens. I spent over $1200 on two of them with all in. I have used them for a few years now for my fishing channel. The only thing GoPro is good at doing is failing. So far, I have had 100%... not exaggerating... every...single...time on the water, either one or both cameras have failed to record for one reason or another. I have them both connected to external power sources and that still won't keep the batteries from dying sometimes, not always. They will both overheat if the sun is out and it is 70 degrees or warmer outside. Hindsight is pretty much the reason why they overheat, as well as trying to get the best out of them with 60 fps is something you have to forget about doing if you want to also use Hindsight, which tends to overheat it even set on 30 fps. The batteries simply cannot sustain themselves for any serious fish filming. I want to sell all my GoPro equipment and go somewhere else, but am not looking forward to taking a $1000 loss and probably only getting $500 for all and then having to buy new Osmo stuff or Insta360 One RS equipment. It's a tough call. I'm right there with you, though. GoPro sucks. Only good thing in concept is Hindsight, if you are ok with seeing yourself push the start button after a hook set, too. That has become old for me on my channel content if you asked me. I don't like seeing myself fumbling on my chest cam to start recording and the one mounted on the boat. It's lame. I tried a bluetooth remote to stop that from being an issue... it doesn't connect with any consistency at all and isn't worth the money either.

Im not sure about the last part. Is hindsight a different thing than looping? If I would have a bite, fight it, net it, release it and then press the button and have the last 5 minutes saved, that should be possible with the action 3 right? Or are you talking about something different?

Would you still recommend the 4th generation?
