The North American car market is quite surprising to those of us in other parts of the world. I inherited my father's '99 camry, xle, gold pkg with a rare 4 cyl. It now just turned 70k mi. I'm 63 and I'll buy something newer at some point but I'll also keep this, probably forever. It's in Immaculate condition and these generations of Camrys and Corollas will literally run a half a million miles if taken care of.

Scotty, my first new car (1976) was a Toyota Corolla SR5 2 door lift back. Four cylinder manual tranny only option was air conditioning. Took a chance on a new brand in town. Eight years later it was still running great with 170 miles. Ran the gamut of different makes cars over the years. Both, my wife and I have settled on Toyota Avalons. Sorry to learn 2023 was the last year for the Avalon model! Thanks!

A great car is my present car the 2012 Nissan Altima. A little over 100,000 miles and has never used a drop of oil between changes. The CVT is great and I make sure it stays this way by changing the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. I hope to get at least 150,000 miles out of my CVT before I have a problem with it.

The only disadvantage of buying the older model Corolla (2014-2019) is that has the outdated infotainment system (Toyota Entunes 2.0) which doesn't have Android Auto and Toyota isn't updating it

Find out the specific years that were "good" ones is the trick. I had a 2000. I put in 5 Cats. Never did fix the problem. So a guy with a muffler shop put in his own idea, which worked like a champ. Wound up going 233k, before getting nailed by a Huge Truck, which ended me from ever having a vehicle ever again because of suffering permanent brain damage. Now with 5 strokes in the last 3 years, I don't expect to survive 2024.

I get my oil changes done religiously and whenever I go I ask them to make sure the maintenance that is needed is done and my car is good. Has anyone owned the same car as me and what’s the highest mileage you’ve heard it reach? Thanks y’all :)

My personal opinion on front wheel drive is that it’s not as good as rear wheel drive at all. I grew up in Michigan back when we got lots of snow. I was a wild child during my teens and raced around the roads even when they were closed due to snow. I could drive my rear wheel drive cars on ice going 60 miles per hour and keep that car drifting for miles with full control of where I was going. A couple of my friends had front wheel drive and they spun tires and got stuck often. I drove those cars with the same results. No comparison. I think the concept of “Front Wheel Drive Is Better” was a sales pitch that many people who never really push a car to its limit fell for and many still do to this day. Just my opinion based on my experience. Terry

My 2011 Corolla 5-speed manual was a real money pit. Bought it new and I had another $900 unexpected expense nearly every time I needed regular maintenance. Even so, I intended to drive it ‘til the wheels came off. The clutch finally started slipping early last year and before I could get that fixed it got carried off by an EF4 tornado and taken out by a tree. I miss it.

@@jayevans6146 Yep. Uploaded some video of the aftermath. Still displaced by it since it ripped the roof off the house we were renting. In the videos I didn’t even notice the car had been moved because the workbench between it and the garage was also gone but when we got the tree off I realized getting crushed was the only reason it didn’t get flipped like the neighbor’s car straight down the street where the trees didn’t provide a wind break. I realized because there were PVC pipes wedged under the tires where I couldn’t even pull them out. They had been stored 8’ off the ground on the “roof” of a double-decker work bench that was long gone, so the car had to be picked up and set down on them after the 12x8’ double decker workbench was chucked into the back yard.
