@@iainlangley I use the one off of the wltoys 12402a, you have modify it a bit but it works great on my 1/18th scale truck so I’m sure it could be used on this.

Good to know the front-end shell of my 901 broke, same with one of my shocks :( any recommendations for replacement?

This thing comes with an optional speed pinion?

@@jonnybishopmusic Yes 100%. You have to raise the height of the front body post I think but other than that it's a direct fit.

Cheers mate! I'm not influenced by larger channels or other youtubers im not here to get into their gang haha. I'm me and i have my own take on things. People can love that or hate it i dont care haha!! HBX are known to perform fine on 3s but its always a risk. You could probably go a little larger but not a huge amount of space to allow for the high capacity. Probably one of the only bad things about this truck. 14t pinion is a good shout! Took a risk with it as it doesn't state anywhere it is 3s compatible but worked flawlessly and really woke the truck up! Popping lots of wheelies and generally feeling more responsive. What an excellent little truck and great work HBX!

How about the 16889? Interested how that'd take 3s. If the Wltoys stuff is anything to go by, most of these brushed ESCs and motors don't like 3s that much!

3s will work fine on road and mild off road just keep an eye on heat

I also think its better as an all rounder. The wltoys v2 brushless will be quicker in a straight line without a doubt but its not always about speed. For a beginner looking for a cheap brushless model this is ideal and I think it would be just as durable if not more durable than the wltoys. I am also a loyal Wltoys fan but I am happy to say they made a huge mistake with the v1 due to lack of quality control. The V2 has fixed issues but they shouldn't have existed in the first place. They let standards slip just briefly to gain as much quick profit as possible and that was a bad move as they lost a lot of loyal fans very quickly and then.. the v2 turns up so quickly that v1 pre orders hadn't even been delivered before offering the v2 haha!

Yes I ran 3s. It doesn't state anywhere that it is 3s compatible which is why I took a risk and tried. The ESC recognised the battery with the 3 beeps and ran continuously for just under 15 mins without issue so I would say you are all good!

It fits but its tight!! And I mean very tight!! Then secure down with the Velcro. It never came out or gave me any issues and it will give a bit more run time over the 800mAH!

@@beyondRC is that after running on 3s for quite some time or just for this video? I’ve heard of people having some trouble with it. I’m doing loads of research for my first rc purchase and I just want crazy power and speed. I prefer the look of this but it seems the 1/16 16889 has been more reliable on 3s. I’ll take your word for it if this is also reliable!

What 1800mah 35c battery were you using? I'm looking to buy a few 901a's and I'm looking for some bigger batteries that actually fit. Thanks

@@iainlangley sure man, I've been using "URGENEX 1800mAh 2s 7.4V lipo" on Amazon for under $30 a pair but I just checked and they are currently out of stock. I'll provide you the battery compartment dimensions in case you are able to find some other compact lipos.. 71mm x 36mm

@@iainlangley I'm planning on modifying the battery compartment area to be able to run some slightly larger lipos soon, I would say that's my biggest complaint with the HM124 / 901a the chassis is compact and the battery tray is small, the main section of the battery compartment is 71mm x 38mm but then the compartment narrows -2mm near the servo.

@@bradcarpenter1881 Thanks Brad. I'll take a look. I was originally going to grab a pair of 1600 Urgenex and maybe look to run them in parallel at some point. But I'll be checking around to see if that's safe to do so 1st. Unless you know whether it's safe to run them in parallel? I'd be getting 2 identical batteries to do this.

@@bradcarpenter1881 maybe look for someone with a 3D printer and design a tray that can be added somewhere else on the chassis. I saw someone do that with the 16889a Pro.

It's not about which is fastest. Anyone looking at a great cheap brushless model will need to consider more than just outright speed. Yes the 124016 will be faster for sure but as an overall all rounder this is way better. That's my opinion anyway 😎👍

@@beyondRC again I dont know if you drive the 124016 just as slow as the hbx i bet they It can handle the same "abuse" I have only broken 1 knuckle in my 124016 and that happened in a crash almost at full speed up against the curve an Arrma would have breaked as well and that hbx if It was capable of reaching anywhere clóset yo that speed would have breaked to, Its easy yo find parts for hbx but its even easier and cheaper to find them for wltoys, the batery in the hbx Is really limited by the size the car can take, and it's way easier and cheaper to fit some bigger 96mm tires in the 124016 like I did with mine, so now It can handle the same type of terrain as that hbx plus It will go even faster still, than to make that hbx go as fast as the 124016 can as you say as an all rounder Its better the 124016 for me in everyway sorry

I think we get whst we pay for and some ppl think the 1444104 is practically unusable while some thinking its there best rc . Im amazed how u.k people do so much with these cheaper rcs where in usa people with that budget don't have the know how and ones who do have money wouldn't mess with China stuff

Quite a few people think it's acceptable which I can't work out 🤣! The answer is they realised the mistake and made a v2 very soon after, so why am I complaining.. Well, because it shouldn't have happened and was easily preventable. Is there a v2 144001? V2 104001? Nope, because I think some basic QC was probably used with those models. The 124016 and 17 where an attempt to gain as many sales as possible after building a huge fan base with the 144001 and wltoys knew they had the backing and support of every Rc content creator out there to help push their product. The v1 came out and was a disaster, and most honest reviewers said it was terrible whilst some said it was awesome to generate commission from sales. I have my opinion on the v2 as an afterthought and a way to bring business back after losing so many customers to the v1 issues. Just my opinion which a lot of people disagree with 🤣👍😎

@@paulclancy2404 I’m in USA. I have the budget for whatever RC I want. I mess with the Chinese stuff. Love my brushed Wltoys. The v1 brushless models were junk. Folks driving them on asphalt and videos edited for fun content aren’t going to show the whole story.
