NES Scanlines: Set the shader to "none", then it will just be the clean crisp pixels. You can do this as a global option, or set it per system, or set it per game.

I have another version of this device and thought that I would share a few take aways. First and foremost, I have seen other videos that totally rag on the controllers being crap, which they are not all that great, but, as someone who was around during the hey day of the Atari 2600 when it first came out, I can tell you that you really don't know what a crappy controller is until you have played with some of those that we had back in the day that were just garbage, yet, we managed to have a good time none the less. Seeing the changes happen through the years from what it was to what it is today, the differences in terms of the controllers alone are night and day to say the least. I also have to agree with everyone saying that the older systems, such as the Atari 2600, ColecoVision, Genesis and the like, those games work pretty well on these little devices. In all honesty, I bought the one that I have because I wanted to play the games from when I was a kid a million years ago and just have some old fashioned fun. Just like music can take you back and make you remember a time and place, so can video games, especially the ones that you played all the time, such as River Raid for me. The first system I ever bought for myself personally with my own money was the Sega Genesis, and, of course, the first game I bought was Mortal Kombat. I quite literally have all three versions of the Sega Genesis system and all work, so, if I really want to get that old school feel and gameplay, I can slide the cartridge in and turn one on and play all day long. This brings me to the overall problem with emulation. No matter what they do, how they present it or how far the technology goes, you will never have the same experience as you would with the real deal originals. As some have said about the PS1 games on these systems, to include the sound for these games would increase the storage space required and subsequently lower the number of games that can be put on these devices as a whole. Then you have to take into account that different hardware is going to respond to different emulators differently, meaning that you are never really going to get a true to life emulation of some of the systems without having to break the bank in terms of hardware. Which brings be to the biggest thing to consider. If you look at the cost of these devices, like the one I bought a couple of years back that cost just shy of $50 on AliExpress, and it comes with 33424 video games on a micro SD card, take into consideration and account that as the system requirements for the more modern games increases, the potential for the video games to run smoothly is going to diminish, if not totally drop off. I knew going in when I bought the one that I did that the device would run the systems I wanted to play, the older ones like the Atari, Genesis, NES, etc, were going to run fine, so, when I came across a game from a more recent device that didn't run well, I didn't really worry about it, so when you go into these things you have to take that into consideration. The other thing you have to take into consideration when buying these devices is to divide the cost by the number of games and what you will come up with is that you are paying fractions of pennies on the dollar for these games, so, if one doesn't work you are not really out all that much aside from being disappointed. But, at the same time, you have to know going in that the device is only capable of so much, beyond that point it simply is not going to work well regardless of the emulator that is used. All of this kind of reminds me of when clients of ours were buying up all of these little Netbook computers because they were small and cheap, thinking that it was going to be this total system replacement for their desktop computer. We tried telling people that they have a lot of limitations while having a lot of potential uses, but, people bought them, found out that they could not do what they wanted the system to do and then complained about the system. It is the same thing that I see with these little devices, they have a place, they have a use and they have their capabilities, if you can accept what they can do and what they cannot do and can pick them up for a reasonable price, great, but, if you do not want to accept that there is a high probability that the device is not going to do more modern games and then complain about it, then who is really to blame for that?

I have the super console X cube from kinhank and I love it. Some games dont play perfectly but for the price it's a great little console to have in a bedroom to play some retro games before bed or when your laying around on a lazy Sunday afternoon lol.

I hated scan-lines at first with emulation until I was emulating with the steam deck and the setup showed scan-lines and no scan-lines side by side. In certain games, the scan-lines make the sprite look a lot better. These sprites were made with scan-lines in mind, so you lose some of the detail when you take them out.

I have the old versions and they are amazing to me for what it is for the price. I think it's a 90's kids dream system.

I was watching to see if your review would be skewed since it was sent directly to you from the developer, but you stayed true to yourself and I think gave an accurate fair review. Really appreciate you giving valid and unfiltered feedback. I know it must be tough in these situations when a company gives you something to review. You dont want to trash a product, it sounded like you gave good constructive criticism. Hopefully they want to improve the user experience and its not just a cash grab when it comes to their long term vision.

I have the Super Console X3 Plus. For your PS1 games I wonder if you have the rewind feature enabled? I was having issues with my PS1 games running slow too but I figured out that I had the rewind feature turned on and apparently that causes a lot of performance issues for the PSX emulator on the console. Once I disabled the rewind feature my PS1 games ran smoothly.

I have the super console X2 pro and it’s very good generally. I use mine for arcade games which it does without problems. I was impressed that it can do the super scalers from sega plus rail shooters. It’ll do Tate mode and works with my arcade stick for shmups. Not everything works or works well but 90% works as it should. 8/10.

I can explain some of the performance issues. Some games rely more on CPU while others rely more on GPU power. Depending on the output of each component and what game you're trying to play, It'll either run silky smooth or slow to a crawl. This is why PC guys recommend decent specs for both

Lemme tell yah thats a very interesting box for sure. I think I would advise anyone wanting this level of emulation and maybe a little bit more to get a steam deck because I feel like it worth the investment and the set up of emulation on the deck. I brought the last emulator that you recommended the super console x. It gets ridiculously hot after half hour, starts to glitch and freezes on screen. Very cheap and cheerful product, but it's a fire hazard

yeah the music speeds up to in the original Super Street fighter 2 Turbo... I know this because when I bought the Capcom/street fighter collection for PS2.. it did the exact same thing on SSF2Turbo!

I would like to see you review some of the GIANT sized hard drives.. do they have a majority of the newer libraries? Do they really run if you have the right workstation? Get one of those 16TB HDD systems

7:00 the scan lines are for games that require them for their graphics. A good example is Boulders Gate: Dark Alliance for GBA. Try playing it without scanlines and you’ll quickly see how all the graphics mush together. The scanlines for some games create this false 3D image and without them, everything becomes a mushed together 2D collage.

I had one of these and thought that an update would fix some of the problems. So, I let it run an update and it hasn't worked since. It's a shame that Kinhank doesn't put a little effort in to getting these to be truly plug and play.

Screw scaan lines! I'm going on 53. Years old and started my video game obsession before atari2600 with a RadioShack pong game... I love the nostalgia of older video games but give me a crisp clean high definition picture all the time!

Also, as someone thats bought multiple kinhank consoles, on ps1 they like to use crappy roms for whatever reason. Tekken 3 is notorious. I just delete the rom they have and replace with my own. I realize that takes away from the plug and play mentality of it, but thats just what they use for ps1 for whatever reason.

They remove music on playstation games on these not to improve performance, but to decrease file size. If one was so inclined they could put their own playstation games on here with music. I'd check and see if there's some kind of playstation upscaling involved. Normally playstation runs good on these.

Now if only we could get something like this in a handheld/portable rig, that'd be great. Because I don't have a TV to connect this to, & probably won't have for some time.

I personally think the X3 is better than this one, because most ps1 games run great as well faster loading times. On the x2, i guess it all depends on what you playing. Some games may run better on the newer x4

I'm not an "expert" but I have been emulating games for over 25 years (starting with ZSNES). From what I can tell, I don't think the PS1 core is properly configured for this particular system. It's likely using Beetle/Mednafen which is a great emulator for slightly more powerful setups as it's a bit more accurate than the others. I'd recommend Duckstation/Swanstation as it favors a balance between accuracy and performance and still has a lot of bells and whistles. I'd be really surprised if this can run Saturn but can't run PS1 at full speed using the Duckstation core.

We have the Super Console Cube X3 and like it a lot. Going to wait to see if one gets released with the NES style case like the X3.

Just a note, "they turn off the music" on these games to save space on the SD card. Essentially they leave the music files out of the rom installation so they can fit more games on. I think it's a crap move as it's half the enjoyment of the games listening to the music, especially on Tony Hawks!

I would die to have both a handheld and home console pre loaded with every SNES and PS1 JRPG. If it could fit more RPGs and/or other genres thatd be even better but i at least want all my childhood RPGs. Ive tried twice in my life to accomplish this. The first time someone converted my Wii. I spent 200 bucks around 2010ish, played 2 retro games and then yried to play the new Zelda so it updated itself and wiped all the games off. Yeara later i spent a whole week watching a youtuber who reviews all the handhelds. I finally chose 1 and played it for about an hour because some games were preloaded. After trying for 4 hours to load games i simply couldnt fogure it out so i put it on a desk and went outside. Apparently you can NEVER let the battery get to zero or it will never turn back on. So ive spent about 400 dollars to play 4 retro games for a total of a couple hours.

Id want it just for the cave shooters. Ive never seen one of these with a slot just for cave

It's probably been mentioned before, but the reason why the ps1 games have no music is because the cd images take up a lot of space. Ridge racer without tracks can shrink to 4mb of space vs a 600mb image. This doesnt have an effect on the game speed.

I would say the Super Console X4 is great for people who want to play pre-64 games and who don't want to do any of the work lols.

I think the reason why the PlayStation performance was bad is because it’s being upscaled. Drop the resolution and it should run perfect.

Received my X4 Plus today. First impressions are good. Only downside is I can't figure out how to get audio through the headphone socket when running Emulec (I've tried changing the audio device to 0,0, 0,1, 1,1 etc). Works fine when running in Android mode.

i know alot of people dont like my solution but.. my pc runs everything fantastic. and we have great internet (3gbps). everything is hard wired with Ethernet and i have apple tvs as my tv boxs. i just stream my pc games to my apple tv, double press the sync button on my xbox controller and it switches between my pc and apple tv. there is the tiniest bit of input lag, but that only bothers me in competitive e-sports in witch case id be sitting at my desk to use my mouse and keyboard. but for family games and/or single player games, i dont mind the setup at all :)

I have a few of the KinHank systems and all of them seem to have the same issues.
