Truly the best coin trick in the world. Rick just gets it on every level, right down to the idea of a one coin routine being its own fidget toy. My lucky silver dollar has helped my socially awkward a** break the ice many times, & it’s thanks to the one coin routine.

What a wealth of great ideas! Thanks, Rick! I'm not sure if I'm keen on the side camera view though. I found it a little distracting. Maybe if you use it as a medium-close shot, speaking directly to the camera, to emphasize a point. If you try this, when editing, keep a little of the head turn footage looking to the side camera and also returning to the main camera. The extra movement will help it feel natural and less jarring. (Just some constructive criticism.)

You're right. There are tricks and there are routines. With a little effort and creative thinking, you can turn a simple trick into an extended routine. The most important and most visual part was the last move. It sets me up to do more magic.

Hey Rick! This is another great video for a lot of reasons. While it's fantastic that you are sharing an AWESOME routine, I think the real value here is your thoughts/theory on simple magic is an entry, pulling enough interest for more expansive possibilities. Then getting into the deeper theory of why and how in the subtitles. Part of me appreciates that not a lot of people get in on the loop of this valuable knowledge, this is really valuable material for aspiring magicians in all aspects if they're paying attention. I don't know if you've considered writing a book... but for real... if you haven't you should! I call first dibs on the number one copy and I'd be honored if I could get an autographed copy. lol ;-) In all honesty, I think this video is really under-loved. Keep up the great work good sir. By the way, you mention cards, however, I don't think I've ever watched you perform a card trick. While it definitely appears coin magic is your true passion, I personally would love to see some other varieties of magic also. You do a beautiful job breaking down the why and giving a complete scope of what it is you're doing, and that understanding I think could be really valuable to other aspiring magicians. If you're so inclined, a book on ice breaker magic focusing on the why and form behind a trick may really be a strong suit for you. Just a thought. Much love man, keep fighting the good fight!

@@RickHolcombe Doooooo it!! 🙃 I mean it Rick. While you're still gaining momentum extra especially, a book would be really cool, and I really would throw some bucks to get an autographed copy, big fan, keep me in mind.

I have a couple of one coin routines that I practice, all of which are driven by their themes/scripts. One is purely one coin and is based off the idea of "showing what sleeving looks like" without having sleeves, and the other (which has multiple coins at the beginning and end but is mainly one coin) is a "which hand" presentation. Personally I don't like the idea of a one-coin routine that doesn't have a really strong theme behind it. It just feels meaningless and gets into that realm of "coin juggling". I use the script as a guide to tell me what sleights and moves to do, rather than the moves dictating the script. Doing it that way motivates all the actions, and makes it look purposeful and natural rather than purely flashy. I love practicing pure sleights, but in terms of a routine, if I don't have a strong script it all falls apart.
