I'm so glad! And it's so true- the game changed a great deal at the beginning of 8th edition, so coming back after a few editions off is arguably almost harder than starting from scratch because rules don't line up with expectations.

Only partly correct, however. Yes you can spam MW psychic powers for sure, up to 4 D3 MWs per psychic phase (for 1 CP to cast 3 powers). But the relic pistol + wralord trait synergy nets you at max 6 MWs (provided you wither hit all shots and roll three 6s to wound, or hit on 6s counting as 6s to wound if you've got Hail of Doom craftworld attribute = makes it a bit easier), which is achievable with Strands of fate tbf. But at max 6 MWs is definitely not as strong as an average of 8 MWs. It's still strong, but you have to remember you can only either shoot with a pistol or all of your other weapons. Not both. So no making use of the twin shuri cats of the bike in combination with this etc. Popping the Bladestorm strategem (as the relic is a shuriken weapon) for exploding 6s to hit does work, but it's been FAQed that if a rule grants additional hits other rules don’t automatically apply to those additional hits. An FAQ for exactly this type of rule interaction. So you'd get additional hits, but they won't cause MWs. Tricky to explain complex rules interactions pedagogically, but yeah ^^

My pleasure! The recent rules updates have changed things slightly- Fire Prisms with vectored engines are more expensive now, but it is still a solid and easy combo for new players. To the Last is gone, so Baharroth and those Hawks no longer score points in the same way, but both units are still highly competitive.

I mean, they are both super fun to play and have in common that they are for the most part glass cannons. Aside from models and lore, one big difference on the table is that Craftworlders rely on psychic enhancements while Drukhari have no psychic presence at all, leaning instead into "Power From Pain." You could always go Ynnari, and run some of each.

@@WBConcilio it is INSANE. All I had before was shroud runner, autarchs, and rangers, now I literally have almost every model, with the old-school metal cast and my decision paralysis is real haha. The collection even had a scorpion!!

Do you find that protect is really needed on them? I guess to help shrug off tons of small arms fire, but imo they mostly use their 4++/5+++ anyways as they're getting targeted by decent AP weapons.

My personal experience running dice/math tests assuming mostly ideal conditions is that unless you end up with a lot of shots vs marines they'll not do as great as youd think, especially now with Armor of Contempt - thats a bit of a "standard test" use case and what is generally good is what can do well against higher volume marine body-count lists since marines are generally pretty tough troops to remove, especially now with Armor of Contempt. Vs other options like most 4/+ armor units because the random rolling is a hinderance they'll do amazing or okay. tl;dr great if you know your opponent or 4+/5+ with 6++ capable stuff; not as good vs "all-comer" lists. Basically like Autocannons with more variance but more potential

I agree. I used to only use a small squad of hawks if i wound up with points to spare, but now i think they are more of a mainstay. they compete with my spiders. They will get new models soon though i think.

I'm just getting into Eldar, bought the Codex etc and I'm kind of sad that Warp Spiders don't seem very viable for beginners or at all. Swooping Hawks and especially Baharroth are pretty cool looking too though.

@@dillon1037 Warp Spiders are really good. They have good fire output and they can help score secondaries in a big way. There ability to teleport away when a charge is declared against them make them a powerful screening unit against melee threats- don't despair! Spiders are definitely a competitive pick, they just require a bit more finesse than Hawks.

Great points all around

1) It depends. Look at what your opponent has brought to the game and asses whether you can keep the Prisms alive with conservative play. In some match ups, the answer will definitely be "no". 2) Reveal is definitely good, although not an auto-include. If you either have "Masterful Shots" OR a good number of high AP weapons, you can get by just fine without it. A Shuriken list without Masterful Shots probably needs Reveal.

Good point. What you can use is the Fire and Fade stratagem for 2 cp that lets you make a 7" move after shooting.

@@bjornengqvist9629 You can't do that either, I believe. That strategem allows you to make "Normal Move" which you're not allowed to do the same turn as you arrive as reinforcements. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

@@tomashogberg8514 you actually can use the Fire and Fade stratagem, as it stops you from charging that turn. That is the real reason most movement options are not allowed after reinforcements, to prevent auto charges. The cost of 2CP for it also weighs heavily as you usually want to use that stratagem on a unit without battle focus to keep it safe. Matchless Agility is way more effective than Fire and Fade and costs 1 CP instead of 2 CP, but since that is a battle focus move it is unusable on a reinforcement unit. That being said, Eldar have other ways of getting in close more reliably for a charge.

@@ghstlyflme My point is reinforcements can't make Normal Moves on the turn they arrive, and Fire & Fade counts as a Normal Move. I agree it's not a broken thing here given it's costly and you can't charge, but ruels as written is that you can't make normal moves after coming in from reserves, and the strategem specifically states that it counts as making a "Normal Move". Same rules apply to Battle Focus which also counts as a normal move - you can't deep strike in a unit of fire dragons and battle focus away the same turn.

I don't think the 2 dmg is negligible, since marines are still prevalent and will get more prevalent. But if that's your judgement, save yourself 50 points and use the swords. The str only matters for toughness 6 and 7 enemies, and even then the 2 extra attacks means more confirmed wounds that the enemy needs to roll armor saves for. Of course t7 enemies usually have multi wounds. I'd say with the ynnari shield spell they ghost swords shine, so give it a try. But maybe side them out if going against marines

Just on the off chance that you are not joking: it’s not 43 but 4d3 as in d3 as abbreviation for a dice that only shows results from 1 to 3 instead of a d6. But I am almost sure that you are joking 😉

If you use Strands of Fate with Hail of Doom and Mark of the Incomparable Hunter, every 6 to hit scores two mortal wounds- Bladestorm will cause those 6s to hit to generate additional hits, (although there is a rare rule in the core book that prevents Hail of Doom from also causing those to also trigger Hail of Doom, so although 9 wounds are possible here, the average is going to be less)

@@WBConcilio ok got it, bladestorm was the bit of the combo I was missing. Requires quite a few resources (2CP for the relic and trait, plus 3 fate dice and a further 1CP per turn), but that is certainly powerful.

Yeah, sorry- that is out of date in a number of ways unfortunately. Fire Prisms remain a solid pick for beginners and on terrain light tables, but they are not efficiently pointed for serious competitive play with significant line-of-sight block terrain. DCannons are a much better option in that slot. As for CP management, I think you generally want to start the game with enough to use "Phantasm" if you need to, which- if you bring a second detachment- means you only have one or two CP to spend on pregame options like "Webway Strike," "Seer Council," "Relics of the Shrines," or conventional relics and Warlord Traits. In this new economy, "Fateful Divergence" is pretty important for additional CP generation. You will likely want access to "Lightening Fast Reactions," occasionally "Unparalleled Mastery," and "The Multifaceted Mind," during the game- as well as other niche options and occasional psychic or charge rerolls, which means being much more churlish with early game CP expenditure than we were back in March.

They work a lot like Banshees, but they are more complex in their loadout and have a way to jump back into a Transport with a consolidation move, which is insane. They can also be weirdly durable. You can use your Craftworlders to hold your backfield and score secondaries while your clowns pressure and harass your opponent while contesting the midfield and playing a brutal trading game. If you want to use them in your 2K force, consider playing straight Harlequins at the 500pt level to get the hang of them first, but if you are going to bother paying 2CP for a patrol to run alongside your Craftworlders, I think you probably want at least around 700pts. If you want shooty harlequin Troops, you could do a Patrol like the one below; (a build like this reached the top table at a GT over the weekend.) If you want something a little more melee oriented, swap the fusion pistols for more kisses. (You could get it closer to 700 by dropping the attack bikes, if almost 1K is more clowns than you had in mind.) (Also, even though Harlequins are a bit like Banshees, you STILL want the one squad of Banshees with Piercing Strike. They are so freaking good.) Definitely. They are cheap solid picks for scoring and board control in addition to the psychic buffs they put out.

I need to update the article on Combat Patrols, but here is what I said to someone who posted to my website about this very thing this morning: This has not been updated yet for the new codex, but the general advice still applies. I suggest building around a 90point foot Farseer with Faolchu’s wing and either a single unit of Rangers in the troops slot, or a single unit of Guardian defenders. The most powerful build would be to choose the Defenders, give the Farseer DOOM, select the Farflung Craftworld trait “Hail of Doom” and then add 2 Vypers Jetbikes with Shuriken Cannons and two War Walkers with twin Shuriken Cannons. Alternatively, take the Rangers and add units go in some other completely different direction. Emphasize small units that are easy to keep alive and have good scoring potential. His lack of mobility is his greatest challenge. In the right list, he can play the midfield well, but I prefer to have him in my backfield. My typical picks for Eldrad include: Guide, Fortune, Focus Will or Fateful Divergence. In 500 or 1000 point games, he can play forward with a killy loadout.

They can. That's something that the 40k App thinks is true but there is no rule or FAQ to back it up. In tournament play at all levels, mixed powers for Farseers is the norm- I have never heard of a TO ruling against it.

I one shot Magnus with 2 Prisms, they are good in a pair but you have to be careful with them.

They do good work for new players and the ability to ignore invulns is what makes that damage profile really dangerous. They are currently an off meta pick, but I think they have potential going forward.

@@WBConcilio I mean I was using guard as an example of why I'm not super keen on rangers. If guard it good or not is another matter. I like taking 4x10 guardians and just use them to win the missions rather then beat my opponent, if you get my meaning. They hold objectives move block screen ect and if they can chip off a few wound all the better. They're just as good/ bad agains all army's but I feel rangers are can be very strong but are just too squishy against certain builds

@@Dan-gw9gd Glad to hear they are working well for you! I like Guardians too, I just find Rangers to be more points efficient for filling out a battalion and invaluable for screening and scoring. We are definitely seeing more Rangers than Guardians in the top performing lists at the big tournaments, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. If they are working for you, then I can't see why you would switch it up.
