“Get your income up.” - Uncle Luke, February 2024. Uncle Luke telling the people how it is! 💪🏼 Stan, I love how you add a tiny bit of content to every question instead of just answering an assuming everyone knows the lingo. Love your content. - Ivan

The lowering of credit limits on Chase cards is an interesting topic, I actually did that previously on my personal cards to position myself for an automatic approval, and hopefully higher credit limit, on an Ink card. But you make a good point in that if I just kept the status quo and didn't get an automatic approval, I could've called the reconsideration line and then moved credit around afterwards if that was the issue. Anyway, great stuff Stan!

Thanks Monty! Yeah, it depends on what you're looking for. I know the automatic approval is quite nice and the easier way forward, but I just feel weird decreasing the CL I "worked" so hard to get. I personally don't mind doing some extra work if I have to, but it's all about understanding all the possible outcomes and then picking the one that works the best for you!

Would love to see Global Entry/TSA credit added to the Green card and the lowest level of Priority Pass (4 visits per year) instead of LoungeBuddy. Would also love to see the dining multiplier replaced with Gas/EV so it covers all transportation methods on one card and eliminates overlap with the Gold, their most popular card. Would make the Green have a place in more setups I think, especially since they don’t have an MR earning gas card.

For sure! I think the Amex system could use a more popular card like the Green as a gas card, and I think all the suggestions you made to improve the Green card are great! That card, as you said, should be primarily for occasional travelers. Would be great to have limited PP visits, but even 2 Centurion lounge visits, like Luke said, would make this card an even better offering than it is right now!

@@TheCreditFrog For sure. Unfortunately all I hear these days is that the Centurions are maxed out of capacity all the time so I doubt they'll add more cards with that to the mix and disappoint the Plat card holders further who already have to wait in long lines.

Great insights and advice all around! And as Oakland said, just up your income 😂 I like the idea of 2 Centurion passes, that would be interesting hmm. Love it Stan! Couldn’t stay for the entire live and missed this part!

Hah! Yes, I agree! Having 2 Centurion passes would be a strong move for the Green card IMO. Especially if they decide to limit Centurion lounge visits, it would make them so much more valuable. I appreciate you stopping by and watching the replay Tony!

Yes, give folks a nice taste of what the lounges are like. If I traveled I would be pounding that apply button for the Amex Platinum in due time in due time! ✊

Amex Green is a solid earner paired with the BBP, Everyday Preferred is builds MR points in most categories! I've had my Amex Green out for a spin since pc from the Amex Gold, the Amex Green is a stunner in appearance. I remember feeling this way when I first got the Amex Green back in early 2022, then came along the Amex Gold which stole the love haha. I am glad I reworked my front running cards and went back to the Amex Green!

Amex Green can be a great card for 3X travel/dining coverage. I agree, it does look great! If you want MR points, but don't want to break the bank, the Green is a nice alternative to Platinum/Gold. It seems like it works well for your use-case, and if you get CLEAR and/or use Lounge Buddy, you can definitely cut down or eliminate that AF!

Wow, didn’t expect to make it into the smaller upload! I hadn’t thought of that before but I do really like the idea of 2 Centurion passes. What I’d really want is for Amex to broaden their travel category to include transit and then add gas and/or drop dining to 2x and maybe bump travel to 4? So 4x travel 3x gas 2x dining Probably not super realistic but I’d dump the clear credit and take a small AF hike for that.
@TheCreditFrog
@TheCreditFrog 6 ай бұрын
You did! Thank you for your question! Yeah, the two Centurion passes are a great idea. I also agree that I wouldn't mind a gas category on the card - Amex is probably going to raise the annual fee anyways, so a new relevant multiplier would be great!

5/24 is a stupid rule as it's completely arbitrary. It only benefits Chase and does not benefit consumers nor partner brands. I can give a pass for cards that are wholly Chase cards like Freedom/CSP/CSR but I'd be pissed if I was a partner who co-brands their card with Chase. Every one of these partners wants to issue cards because they get swipe fee revenue from having more people use their cards. CEO of IHG Elie Maalouf wants to earn more money from cards. Problem is you have a bank who is purposefully restricting your pool of potential customers because of their 5/24. Brands that partner with Chase should demand that 5/24 not be a thing for their cards that carry their brand. If they flexed a little muscle, Chase would cave as there is plenty of competition for this.
@TheCreditFrog
@TheCreditFrog 6 ай бұрын
That’s a great point! I can definitely see cobranded credit cards having an issue with the Chase 5/24 rule. To my knowledge, I think the Amazon cards are ones that are not subject to this rule, but I’m sure there are others. If it weren’t for this rule, I would have gotten many more Chase cards that I have, and since Amex is less restrictive, Amex has gotten a lot of my spend because of their more easy rules surrounding number of applications. Chase’s loss is Amex’s gain!

Chase Amazon Visa sometimes bypasses the 5/24, I've gotten no love haha I could easily get the Amazon store card but prefer the Chase one for the Chase ecosystem and rewards structure.

It also depends on your point of view. It's certainly not great to have a limit on your personal credit card applications, but if there was no limit, would you stop? Some think that's good, some don't.

12:10 I feel like a consistent gas category is just missing in general from the flexible point currency cards minus Citi cards. Meanwhile, a consistent dining category is almost inescapable🙃.
@TheCreditFrog
@TheCreditFrog 6 ай бұрын
Hah! Yeah, that's a good observation. On the plus side though, I would say that most people would spend more money in the dining category than the gas category so I guess that's good that there's more options for dining. Having both dining and gas would be great though for a unified setup!

Could you better define what credit gardening is?
@TheCreditFrog
@TheCreditFrog 6 ай бұрын
Credit card gardening is where you stop applying for credit cards to let your credit history age to improve your credit score. However, in the credit card enthusiast community who already have good credit scores, the phrase is used commonly when trying to get under Chase 5/24, which is a rule that Chase has where they will deny you for any Chase credit card if you've been approved for 5 or more personal credit cards in a 24 month period. Gardening in this context means you stop applying for personal credit cards to lower your Chase 5/24 status.
