I've been looking for a modern and fast FDM 3D printer that is also very beginner-friendly while not breaking the bank. Many printers in this category are priced similarly, but the Flashforge 5M 3D printer is a steal right now at $299. I'm going to share my experience with this printer and why I think it's probably the best deal going right now.

CORRECTION: I misspoke when I said the guard plates for the enclosure took 20-30 minutes. These parts took around 52 minutes each to print.

Awesome video!! I’ve been eyeballing a new printer for a long time and was excited to see this one. I tried finding reviews on the non pro 5m and found they were very limited, I did see someone say it was close to a P1S for half the price, so I said why not let’s try it for $299. I’m very impressed so far. I also put it in myself to create a basic video of walking through the first steps as I couldn’t find videos when I ordered it. Now it looks like others have made videos, and you have a well with some great production values. I’m glad more coverage is becoming available.

Glad someone is shining a light on this! I think Flashforge did a great job listening to reviewers and buyers when they decided to go more open source and design. The 5M with the affordable printed enclosure kit as well as open Klipper is simply insane value for money.

P.S. Great review. This was pretty comprehensive short of some kind of teardown! I think people should really consider this printer over the popular options. With a coupon this is about the same price as the Ender 3 V3 KE and I'd take this.

Great review! I started with an Ender 3 Pro, and enjoyed it but felt extremely limited and, often frustrated. As a beginner, I felt aggravated at times at how hard it was to keep level. I also upgraded a lot of parts, including installing nylon bushings under the levelling knobs and the Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder. Yesterday (4/19), I "upgraded" (I hope) to the Flash Forge Adventurer 5M and hope to make more progressive prints. We'll see how that turns out. If it's successful, I may keep climbing the 3D printing ladder. As fiddly as the Ender 3 is, I will still keep printing smaller parts on it while my Flash Forge prints heavier duty stuff. I'm figuring it out as I go and videos like this help. I'm not in it to take over the 3D printing world, but to just to have some fun and make some props, and kits, that people can enjoy!

I have a Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro and I was pretty surprised how good of a printer it has been. For me compared to the P1S I had more consistent prints from the get go from the 5M than the P1S. But you really cant go wrong with either. So it would come down the the Slicer and I guess you can use Klipper on the 5M now.

I looked long and hard at this printer.. I ended up picking up the Pro because I was able to get it for 489 plus tax on Amazon because of a 50 dollar savings and a 10% off coupon that Flashforge had on Amazon.. the same coupon was also available on the 5M, bringing it down to 270 before tax. So, a great deal on either model.

You really are an ambassador for this printer. I hope they recognise that and send you the enclosure for free. You deserve it. I bought this printer because of your videos and do not regret it. It arrived in TWO days. It was printing the test cube within half an hour. It won't print ABS though. I've tried everything. Could you try and make a video on it? I got it to stick to the bed using a raft but the layers won't adhere. It just lifts and cracks.

Problem with printer loosing it's position actually is very common to any machinery equipped with stepper motors with no feedback. From my years of experience with CNC milling machine tools, it may come from both mechanical or electronical reasons. 1) check if printer's head hits anything. 2) thoroughly clean the guides, ball-screw pairs and drop some oil on it. 3) if mechanics works perfectly well, check all connections of cables and wires going from drivers to stepping motors, plug them thighter into their sockets. 4) alternatively, try to lower the accelerations. 5) if all above didn't work, the problem may be with electronics and it this case there is little you can do. Unfortunately, the exact reason of errors in stepping motors is very hard to pinpoint. Even if problem is purely electrical, there is still a bumping sound im the moment the error occures and it may seems that mechanical parts is suddenly stuck or hit something.

Flashforge are one of the few companies that were making "works out of the box" printers for some time. Unlike Creality Enders that need modifications to make them work well. They won't reach the travel or print speeds in the small size of the build, but it is nice to see that on paper they can do it. People get a little too hung up on mm/s measurements as though it is the be all and end all. Smaller parts will never reach those theoretical speeds

How does an Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro stack up against this? It's not a coreXY design but seems to be a nice machine and I'm getting it cheaper than the 5M (about $270 after tax).
@FigureFeedback
@FigureFeedback 2 ай бұрын
I have an Elegoo Neptune 4 Plus as well. I can tell you the 5M has been much more convenient. The 1-touch auto leveling saves a lot of time and frustration compared to the manual leveling you need to do with the Neptune. The Neptune also has a weird issue with not remembering the Z-offset whenever it's turned off. I also had to alter the flow rate due to over extrusion out of the box. The Neptune 4 isn't a bad printer, but it's not as beginner friendly as I was led to believe. I've made some nice prints on it. It just needs a little help to get there. I also like the fact that the Neptune runs Klipper and allows me to access the printer remotely from a browser.

The whole nozzle thing is my only red flag. I'm really tempted by this machine but my concern is that if they ever discontinue the nozzle assemblies, I'd be kinda screwed. It's not like I can just get a generic nozzle like I can do with something like the Ender V3 KE. How often do you actually need to change a nozzle? Is this a genuine concern? I'm really stuck between this and the V3 KE. It's currently only £30 more with the sale.
@FigureFeedback
@FigureFeedback 3 ай бұрын
I totally understand your concern with the proprietary nozzles. How often you change it depends on how much you're printing. 24/7 usage with a variety of filaments may warrant 2-3 changes a year. But if you use it more casually, you can use it for longer. I'm going to eventually buy a spare to have on hand, and maybe get a larger nozzle for some comparisons.

How long did it take your kids to break the flexi-dragon and will it take my 4 year old a longer or shorter amount of time to break?
@FigureFeedback
@FigureFeedback 23 күн бұрын
They weren't into the dragon, so it's still intact. But I printed a couple flexi Pokemon toys and they're going strong after a couple months. Ultimately it depends on the kid. Mine aren't too rough with toys.

Would you suggest this or the creality k1c? They are the same price for me.
@FigureFeedback

Since they're the same price for you, I'd go with the K1C.

@@FigureFeedback thanks for letting me know. Could you say why?
@FigureFeedback
@FigureFeedback 2 ай бұрын
Sure. The K1C is already enclosed, so you can print with more materials right away. It's also faster, has a larger build volume and includes a camera.

I just bought mine , can you tell me how to turn down speed , would like to turn it down to 200 for better quality prints
@FigureFeedback
@FigureFeedback 3 ай бұрын
You can change the print speed in the slicer software you're using. The steps are different depending on the slicer. It's probably set at 300mm/s by default for PLA.

@@FigureFeedback , thanks for the quick response, have one more question... does the usb slot on the side allow you to upload a file or is it just for connecting a camera

You can use the USB slot for both.

@@FigureFeedback , what brand of pla filament have you been using and what do you think works best for this printer
@FigureFeedback
@FigureFeedback 3 ай бұрын
The blue filament I've been using is Jamg He High Speed PLA+. For grey, I used Creality Hyper PLA Pro. I'm currently using Elegoo Rapid PETG. I would suggest using high speed filament for PLA or PETG if you intend to print as quickly as you can.

Flashforge Adventurer 5M is better than the Anker Make M5c, only downside is the nozzle is not standard
@FigureFeedback
@FigureFeedback 2 ай бұрын
I agree the nozzles are a bit of a tradeoff. But I love how easy it is to swap without getting tools out.

I had one of these. I sent it back. It failed every single print for a week straight. I have a 20 bed slinger print farm and I was considering replacing them all with one of these. My experience was horrible and support was useless and would not warranty it. Just kept blaming everything but their machine.
