The first and most important thing should be: Does your eyes or brain tolerate this type of screen/backlight/projection/flicker at all ? If not, then you can try anything and nothing will help. I know something about it very well. I can break all the rules on CRT monitors/TV or 3xLCD TV or projectors with metal halide lamps (only) even with 3D active glasses and nothing happens. Even when watching it non-stop, while using all the rules at any other modern display and my eyes are in pain after a few minutes. I am just returning OLED TV becouse that - huge eye strain at any brightness, any distance with/or without any option - just looking at static screen. And my eyes are still almost perfect after 30 years behind different CRT monitors ... What's wrong ? CCFL/Plasma/LED/OLED with PWM flicker or not, are very far from normal light, so the eye strain for some of us. Perfect image should not give any, because if it was not true, then looking at no matter how big ex. paper picture on the wall, would tire our eyes, but this is not the case. The same for me is watching 130' from projector from ex. only half a meter, while 1-5-10 meters to those much smaller OLED's etc. and my eyes are soon closing by itself and on the next day I fell they are "burning". btw. how Oled TV with no PWM can cause eye strain or diziness ? Every of them have a few percent flicker - a dip in brightness at speed of panel refresh rate and such slow flicker can have an impact on eyes even when screen looks static. So the same - it's very hard to understand this for a person which is not seeing a rainbow effect from ex. DLP projection.

Can somebody help me. I've been using TN monitors my whole life and two days ago I bought my first IPS LG 22mk400h-b monitor. It's cheap because I really don't need a 32" 400$+ monitor. But here's the problem - I get headache after 15 minutes and my eyes are so tired looking at this IPS monitor. I could easily stare at my old TN monitor for hours without eye strain or headaches. I lowered brightness from 90 (which was default) to 30 but it doesn't help. What should I do?

One random tips that I didn’t know I need until I tried it. Enlarge your cursor size. It may look funny at the beginning but it significantly saves my eye energy. I can feel my eye muscles are less tight and cause less headache. I suggest everyone to try it for one or two days, if you don’t like it, you can always adjust the size back.

Dark mode all the things, ambient lighting, AR blue filter glasses I did notice make my eyes feel less tired at the end of the work day. Just learned about VSS tonight searching up my symptoms that I have been experiencing since February of last year. The cause of it was coming into contact with non-ionizing radiation. Before the incident I've always had Ocular Migraines from being hit in the temple with a football as a kid. After the incident I developed this and a condition called EMF/EHS so I am sensitive 2 anything electrical and anything that emits radioactive waves. The VSS video helped me out tremendously now knowing that I'm not going blind lol. I experience almost all the symptoms except for maybe 2 of them. Glad to see that there is an explanation and there is being awareness raised about the condition and I hope there will be awareness raised about EMF/EHS as well. God Bless

2:08 Yes, but it depends on the monitor's panel type. An IPS or OLED are fine at most viewing angles but a TN or VA will have contrast or color shift if you don't view them at an ideal angle.

@@DoctorEyeHealth I'm not an expert on anything :) But IPS is the middle ground if you can't afford OLED. I have a VA myself but i don't do color critical work so it is fine for me when i slouch on my chair. By far the worst are TN panels, but those are slowly disappearing these days. Also it was very weird when i switched from a curved 32" to a flat 32" monitor, for weeks the image seemed distorted, like a fish eye effect. But that is another topic of discussion.

@DoctorEyeHealth
@DoctorEyeHealth Жыл бұрын
As far as proper ergonomics, I am not a physical therapist or a chiropractor, but from what I have read and learned, it is best to sit upright with feet flat on the floor or on a foot rest. You want the elbows to be bent at a 90 degrees and the hands comfortably landing on the keyboard. wrist support is nice to help prevent carpel tunnel and other wrist injuries. The mouse should also be easy to access without having to reach your body forward. Again you don't your head to be leaning forward or back because that puts extra strain on the neck. I know there are other ergonomic desk setup videos you can check out otherwise it would be best to ask a ergonomic specialist for personal recommendations. (I know I use a pillow on my lower back for extra support)

Hmm that is an interesting question. Assuming someone has healthy, good functioning eyes and vision...the other factor is that there is a part of the brain responsible for remembering faces. The temporal lobe plays a major role in this and when it is gone it is called prosopagnosia,

Doctor I have a question this is kinda gaming related but do higher resolution monitors and TVs reduce eye strain (example 1080P vs 4K vs 8K). Would hypothetically the higher the pixel density the less stress it is for your eyes to focus on individual pixels. Also at what point does the display resolution become irrelevant because you can't visually perceive any more pixels? or is it even though you may not see more pixels it's still better to have more pixels to trick your brain into thinking it's a real object? Sorry for the long question and I know some of this would delve into neuroscience which isn't your field of expertise but based on your knowledge of the human eye could you say if my hypothesis true or not? P.S. Thanks in advanced

Laser iridotomy was done /no retina damage in test. All is well now for 2+ years. I had double vision before and after, hence a placed prism prescription . My question, Do I come in not wearing my glasses so my eyes are normalized without glasses for say 2-3 hours, or do I wear them in so my eyes are "use to " my current prescription? Which way will get me a more accurate prescription during the new testing procedure? The prism only helped slightly so I question correct placement, or it could just not be a 100% fix kind of thing?? I also bounced and had redone my first glasses as there overall placement of the whole prescription was off said the Dr. ( too low on everything).

Do you have any recommendation regarding the K rating of the light bulbs? I've been using K 3000 but that's not interacting well with my new imac. Someone recommended using K 4,000 suggesting this is a more neutral "temperature". Also some one said the white bezels (compared to traditional black" can cause contrast confusion until one adjusts to it. We'll see.

50% brightness means nothing on displays with varied luminosity. Understanding light output and using a tool like a Spyder monitor calibrator is much better advice.

Your laptop needs to be level on flat surface for it to work properly. If there is a fan it definitely needs to be level.
@DoctorEyeHealth
@DoctorEyeHealth Жыл бұрын
Oh really? Why is that? I have built many PCs in the past and the fans I have used never seemed to function different at different angles. Are they designed differently?
@fortyfour6626
@fortyfour6626 Жыл бұрын
@@DoctorEyeHealth it doesn’t matter the angle. A few degrees doesn’t matter. The air path internally which is what matters doesn’t change with angle….what you don’t want to do is put it on a soft surface that Impedes the airflow around the bottom where the air needs to flow.

Hi doctor! I got a new OLED Asus vivobook and have a slight headache and feel dizzy. I'm shortsided like -8,5 with astigmatism. Does it mean I need IPS instead? I need your advice please. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Are you still experiencing this? I also got an ASUS OLED vivobook recently and I have noticed some eyestrain. I think it might be because of the OLED screen.

It depends on the specific binocular dysfunction for sure. There are situations were prisms are 100% indicated. The eyes are very complex. If I was to go in depth on all the uses for prisms and the research, the video would last 6+ hours haha.

I don't really like this particular notebook do good for your eye compared with LCD screens. the OLED screen used on this laptop can cause more eye fatigue and strain. Especially when you lower the brightness. When it reached 100nit, it uses low-frequency PWM for brightness adjustment When I was telling the truth and citation in my reply , all got deleted
@DoctorEyeHealth

I guess I don't understand your reasoning of how OLED screens would cause eye fatigue. Do you have any study or reference you could share how low frequency PMW is related to eye fatigue or strain? I would like to better understand it. Thanks

Are there any known medications which cause eye floaters?
@DoctorEyeHealth
@DoctorEyeHealth Жыл бұрын
The only one that comes to mind is oral Fluoroquinolones, however, the studies that report this association has been scrutinized for bias and the risk to be very weak. Also, those medications are used for bad infections (where the risk of death is at hand), where flashes/floaters and even RD is thankfully...not lethal.

I am pretty confused too. I think there is a lot of misinformation and a lack of scientific understanding. I hope to have a few videos out soon reviewing scientific findings and concerns around tech use and the eyes...to sort of set the record straight based on current scientific publications. Hint: there are a lot of findings in publications that have been overplayed and used out of context to sell and market products.
