I got the chefs temp about a month prior to you posting this video. I really like it and an added benefit is that it’ll fit nicely in my left hand when rotated at 270 degrees like you mentioned. I hope other lefties can benefit from this. Great video as always!

Hi James, just placed an order for the chefstemp. I didn't need because I have a thermapen one but honestly I liked the upgraded functionality. 270 swinging probe. As a left hander this is much appreciated. I also like that it has a built in magnet vs thermapen you have to pay extra for the case with magnet. And I like that its water rated. I get really anxious about cleaning the tip of my thermapen and having water run into the plastic. Overall no brainer upgrade and don't mind supporting you by buying through your link. The Thermapen will be relegated to baking duty.

The problem with the cheaper units is not that they read incorrectly it’s that they take a long time to get to the said temp, and they often bounce around a lot deciding on what actual temp it is. I noticed a bit of creative video work in this one cutting out the actual vid of getting to temp and cutting back in when it is at the temp. I had many bargain thermos and I got tired of them jumping all around, a cheaper alternative that i liked was the lava tool pro duo. Not quite as fast at the thermapen one but a pretty good performer. Also when you took the thermapen out of the ice bath you can see it climbing in temps from the ambient air temp although that’s not what they are for you see the cheaper one stuck on 36 and not climbing
@BrianMiller1973
@BrianMiller1973 Жыл бұрын
Regarding the ice bath, the temperature on the unit was locked, hence it not changing. It dropped when removed from the boiling water.

I am happy to email you all raw footage if you think there's editing playing a role in the outcome. pull both out of the drawer and stick in something the x10 is quicker I had been stirred the water with the thermoworks probes first in hindsight this was dumb as it cooled the metal making the appearance of them being a similar speed.

I got a Thermapen One on a BF sale. Don't regret spending the cash one bit. Only has to save you one cook to pay for itself. I recommend using it on EVERYTHING, even foods you don't think you need it for, just to put a number to the result. It's interesting to find out what your ideal temperature is on stuff like soups, sauces, and teas. It's also good to put a number to the "feel" of how done/tough meats are so that eventually you can rely on it less.

So true. I'm rocking a mk4 thermapen. Bought another for my mom, bot one for two of my brothers. Aside from meat, it's great for testing cakes (MUCH better than the toothpick method) bread, beer making, checking temperatures for liquids to ensure its safe for yeast to not get killed, checking Temps for heating up leftovers. The applications are unlimited for how useful they are. I talked myself out of upgrading to the One model, haha!

as always, great vid, pretty work! That said, I got to say, and I realize this is in everybody’s situation, what is an almost completely blind cook summer Works has come to my rescue many times over. They are the only company that I know of that makes a rocksolid talking thermometer, of which I have several. Their customer service is absolutely the best, so much so that I bought the blue dot in the signals. So maybe there is a tool out there that’s a little bit cheaper, but this company has gone the extra mile to try and make this kind of technology accessible for a market that usually isn’t even considered.😊

I have largely switched over to my Fireboard Spark instant read. It has a rotating display that lights up like that one, it's hard to tell since yours is on camera, but I think the one on the spark is even bigger and even easier to read. I don't know if it has a hold button, but if you're using the Fireboard app it does log the readings in that, which is effectively the same. Spark costs more than the thermapen though, but it also has a single wired probe port so you can use it as a leave-in as well in a pinch.

I have now switched from Thermapen to Thermopop. Same company but the Thermopop is half the price. Plus I’ve had issues with my Thermapen reading disappearing at times (loose connection). Thermopop is supposedly not as instant as Thermapen but to be honest we’re talking a second or two difference.

I can't stress enough that accurate and reliable temperature readings has been the number one factor in improving my cooking. From BBQ to baking and everything in between. I actually say that a quality thermometer is more important than a quality knife (a bold statement, I know) I personally love Thermoworks and have purchased lots of products from them, and recommend them to absolutely everybody. However, if somebody does their research and finds an option that they prefer in terms of price or features, go for it. Just a couple notes though, the boiling water should be a fully violent rolling boil to get that 212. at 6:45 the water was boiling a little too gently which is why it didn't get the full 212. The ice test also cant have ice floating in water. The vessel has to be filled to the brim with ice, with just enough water to fill the gaps with no floating. Sit for a minute, and then take a reading. Thermoworks has a video on their channel for doing an ice test.

I recognize the laptop I edited the video on, the phone I recorded it on and the tablet I am responding from are all made in china likely as are yours … a three year warranty and the price point and equal performance make it a good buy imo. I don’t have anything against my thermapens. I love them… but not many people driving a Morris, Triumph, Austin, Jenson etc these days. Sometimes a new product does something as well for less money like I believe this test is validating

@@SmokingDadBBQ you know your 1960’s cars. What about Bentley, Jag, Aston Martin? Or F1 cars, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, Williams- all engineered and constructed in UK. 👍 Fair point you make, it may be great I don’t know I was more asking rather than making a statement. I’ve had my Thermapen for maybe 10 years and they don’t break, and are in many of the kitchens of the world for a reason. I want one that has a smooth and consistent user experience. I prefer a Wi-Fi approach for use over longer distance, but I'll only use it within the house. I don't need to check from across town.

@SmokingDadBBQ
@SmokingDadBBQ Жыл бұрын
both programs pay the same affiliate commission % which i mentioned in the video. the difference between the two programs is Thermoworks does not offer a save ___% link or code to the person choosing to use it. This video will likely earn between $40-$80 in youtube ad revenue so affiliate sales do matter more to a creator as without them cooking something like a brisket would be a negative margin business before counting in time, energy, recording/editing etc. More people have purchased Thermoworks from my link given the amount of time/number of videos I have used the probes i purchased in but there isn't a financial incentive for one over the other... especially a lower cost option as that reduces the commission
