I had a pre-facelift nline 1.4 for my last car and really liked it,i actually prefer the looks over the face-lift. It came with Pilotsport 4s and combined with the upgraded suspension and brakes it handled really well, just let down by the lack of power, 140bhp. The exhaust sounded great as well, meaty but not overly loud or obnoxious it wasn't only there as a trinket like on my nline Kona that I have now. It. Was really well equipped as well with the same seats as the N, heated, extendable thigh support and electronic adjustable for the driver, comfy but firm and very fitted. The gearbox was lovely as was the steering which was a more sporty weight than the non nline spec and heated to boot. The led lights were great with cornering lights, just a shame the rear indicators were normal bulbs. I could comfortably transport 2 adults in the back for over 2 hours with no complaints but when I had a bulky child seat in the back it left no knee room for a front seat passenger at all hence the move to the new Kona which is a much better family car but is no where near as fun to drive. I averaged just over 42mpg in mixed driving over 4 years could get 50 on a run at 65mph. The interior looked nice for me but had a lot of hard plastic but the areas you actually touched were nice, either leather or better quality plastics.

Don't think the 12v DC ports are a bad thing, this means you should have up to 150 watts of power available, my ultra modern all functions controlled by the screen Volkswagen Id3 tour 5 with shockingly bad ergonomics has 2x USB c charging ports up front and 2 at the rear but they're only around 10 watts each max. Another thing is that in the id3 is that there is only 1 x 12v socket in the boot meaning if I want to do something simple such as pump the front tyres I can't because the cable for the tyre pump won't reach where as if it was in the normal position in the front It would easily reach.

I had the 2018 1.0 and though the car was good the engine wasn’t, for me at least. The turbo was good on motorway but acceleration from 0 was really poor until turbo kicked. I changed for Ioniq 1.6 hybrid which is superb. If they put that motor in this I’d buy it now the Ioniq is discontinued. I’ve not heard what real mpg is like on the 1.5 i30 to compare with my Ioniq

Yeah looking again it would be far nicer with a traditional analogue clocks but they decide to use TFT screen, I don't like that.

Really great review thanks. I drive a VW id.3 Tour 5 Electric, good EV range but very boring and ergonomics are atrocious and I actually hate it. No physical buttons and going through menus to access climate control settings and radio, station presets is driving me insane, I really don't recommend it but it seems this Screens in your face is the direction VW think they should be going and I disagree 100%. I drove my Mothers 2010 1.4 Petrol fiesta today and had a lot of fun why ? perhaps the 1.1 tonne car vs 2 tonne EV, yes it's very noticeable, having buttons and knobs for basic functions was a revelation coming from the VW EV. I have to say I will never buy a car that is so heavily dependent on screens and software again, too much time looking away from the road too. I'm sad to see the i3o here with a TFT screen for speedo.......I prefer analogue clocks too !
