Really love seeing your son interested in flying. It might be cool to see vids training him. My grandfather owned Amelia Earharts training aircraft and eventually crashed it near Santa Paula airport in the 70’s. He took me up many times in various planes and let me fly. I was hooked. Alas I turned 18, bought a boat and sailed it 20 years and regret not staying with flying. Keep that kid interested in flying and doing what it takes to stay in the cockpit.

Consider yourself very fortunate to have taken your family with you. I took my dad the first day I had my license back in 1975 then one trip with both mom and dad... and one with my sister back in the 80's on a 707... never took my wife and family with me on any of the airplanes I flew with the airlines over 46 years... to this day... I feel I lost out. Good on ya! I wish I had experienced what you did.

My wife and children don't care for flying either :-( I did however get to take my nieces home from KHKY, (Hickory NC), to KVDF, (Tampa Exec). Three girls UNDER tha age of 12 makes for an interesting trip in an old Cherokee 6 with my father, my friend (and plane owner), and I. (and its true, if it'll fit in a six, she'll fly!!! ;-) We had a GREAT trip, but I must have heard Uncle Brian 1500 times ;-) Great memories!!! (And I sure do miss my father...) God bless you & safe travels my friend, and enjoy every minute!!! They'll be grown and gone b4 you know it!!!

Likewise, our family used to go out to Wewak over Christmas in the late 60s early 70s., we also holidayed in Madang once too. Some of us had our father's love of flying and we'd encourage him to find all of the turbulence! My mother hated flying so if she was on board the flying would be smooth as, without her it was always more fun. My father was an ex RNZAF instructor and aerobatics champ. No wonder you need a checklist, you have so many instruments and switches. I remember there being far less in the Cessna 185s and 206s. The heat and humidity on the coast was always a shock after the highlands lovely climate.
