@Multorum Unum no I'm pretty confident it's mono, there's one bottom firing speaker and there's the earpiece which doesn't do any work outside of calls. I can block all sounds by putting my finger over that one speaker 🤷‍♂️ I got it in 2017, I think most phones now will use the earpiece as a second speaker if they don't have a dedicated speaker, but mine doesn't do that. I mean it "processes a stereo signal" as you said, but the output is still one speaker which is kind of the entire reason people still care about mono compatibility

For something less general, one of my favourite plugins: Paulstretch: Allows you to slow down audio to ridiculous degrees. Uses space magic to interpolate between samples. If you've ever heard a "song but 400% slower" it was probably done using this. A bit arcane, not the easiest to use, but can result in amazing pads.

Some plugins i also would include in this video are Surge by Vember Audio: A really good synth that used to cost money but when its developer abandoned it, he decided to make it fully free and open source. I find it especially great for things like big chord stacks and analog leads Odin 2 by The Wave Warden: A free synth that *ahem* takes a lot of inspiration from Reason Studios' synth named Thor. OB-Xd by DiscoDSP: To be honest i haven't really used it alot but it looks good and i've heard good things about it so i'm gonna include it on this list. Dragonfly Reverb: A small collection of pretty nice reverbs. One thing i like about them is the fact that you can dial things in a little bit deeper than you can for most other reverbs. And for an honourable mention i would like to shout out a plugin i found called Argotlunar by Michael Ourednik. It's a nice realtime granulator that is really good for just messing with sound.

It comes with Emissary, an amplifier simulator, and Nadir, a two-mic cabinet simulator with various mic types and adjustable positioning options. They sound absolutely killer; just make sure to run both the Emissary and Nadir plugins together for ultimate success Edit: note that this is simulating a high-gain amp. My new song releasing soon uses labs for the lead and it’s such an incredible free plugin. The trumpet sound has so much real sounding value to it making it my favorite production I’ve made!

Kontakt free orchestra (obviously, also free) I use to harmonize the brass section at the end of each bar and it adds so much emphasis to orchestra. Try it out if you have kontakt!

I could not believe it at first that Vital was actually completely free, it's such an insane synth and definitely a worthy alternative to Serum

Just a heads up, you do need the FULL version of Kontakt ($399) to run pianobook libraries, though most of them are available for decent sampler or in sfz, which are completely free

For anyone who wants free stereo stuff I would suggest Ozone Imager 2. It’s like the plug-in Andrew mentioned with a simple “wide” knob but you can also make things more mono, give stereo width to things that start off mono, and it has a great stereo visualizer so you can actually see how wide things are.
@somegeezer
@somegeezer 3 жыл бұрын
Re: Wider It's actually the way it deals with phase that makes it so good. It's mono sums perfectly, unlike many similar widening effects that do mess with the phase in funky ways. Also: Seconding some other comments on checking out Analog Obsession.
@whatskraken3886

I have no idea how it works. At first I thought it was just a Haas delay, but it doesn't seem to be that since it doesn't cause comb filtering when summed to mono. Then I thought it was using M/S signal to decrease the Mid signal, increasing stereo width. That would also explain the 100-200% slider. But something at 200% width would then disappear completely in mono, so I genuinely have no idea. I can hear some sort of modulation going on when turning up the control, but I guess I just don't have good enough ears to understand what's going on.
