@@bex2229AZ Wow!!! Ive always wanted to go to Ireland or Scotland!!! How are you doing there? It is so far away! I am from Texas & have wished to go there. I have never ever heard of fry bread either. Found out about it just today. Have you made this recipe much? Ive watched 2 other shows where they did not use yeast or dry milk. I wonder is there much difference in taste? Thank you for answering!

@@d.b.4201 Hi😁. I do make fry bread a lot, reminds me of home. If I dont have dry milk I just leave it out and add whole milk, I can't always get it. I always use yeast, there are other recipes without, but I get a better result. I can't get shortening either, if I can it's REALLY expensive. I make due 😁 Scotland is beautiful, but I definitely miss the desert! I'm glad I can cook though, there's a lot of differences in ingredients, I can make almost anything 😁

Looked ALL OVER the web for authentic fry bread the way it was made in Tempe, AZ, around 1998.. Was surprised to see so many website presenters were using baking powder. Tempe Plains people used yeast - and when the fry bread was pulled out of the frying oil onto a paper plate, all those waiting looked forward to the drizzling of honey over the top. THANKS SOOOOO MUCH for this video and recipe! This native "chef" is almost my age!

I am Mi'kmaq (Atlantic Canada) and we call fry bread, lusknikn - or luski, for short. Eventually it ended up being called "four cents" because of how cheap it is to make....lol. Normally I use a traditional recipe...using cat-tail pollen as a sweetener instead of sugar, and no milk...and for a real traditional version, I will cook it over an open fire, wrapped around a fresh, green, sugar maple branch...only using lard to baste it during the cooking process...or for frying it in if cooking it on stovetop...but everyone has their own recipe, and they all claim to make the best fry bread, ever...lol... Yours looks yummy...I'm gonna try your recipe...I'm always interested in other types of fry bread... Thank you for sharing!

I haven't tried the recipe yet. I haven't had fry bread since I visited my family on the res with my dad many years ago. I watched many videos, but I saved yours because I liked listening to you. You have a very soothing way about how you explain the process, and I liked the stories as well. I can't wait to try it out! Thanks for posting!

my daughter is Ojibwe. Her family on her father's side live on a reservation in Wisconsin. They always say there is no recipe for fry bread and that they make it different every time. I wasn't sure if that was true, or it was just a recipe they didn't want to share, which is understandable of course. I've always wanted to try to make it from home and am glad I came across a video of someone who clearly knows what they are doing. Great video. your voice reminds me of my daughters grandmother. Very calm, soothing.

I haven't made this in years. My oldest brother loves it. The high school I went to, each holiday or festival that was celebrated. There was always Indian fry bread, even for Cinco De Mayo. I went to Bell Gardens high school.

I was told by our Indian Elders that Indian fry bread came about because many years ago, the white Man gave a bag of flour to our people. Our people didn't know what to do with it, so some started eating the flour. The white Man said NO! You cook it to make bread. 🍞 But out in the open all they had was a pan with lard, so that's how Indian fried bread came out to be.🍳 Now we have it still yet.
