It's just odd since from my perspective both channels are of equal quality and equal ground but here you are with the rest of us in the comments section.

Do you think you could release this as a pack on steam like sega did with their genesis collection. Were each game is considered a separate dlc. Might be a route for game jams to expand their reach when it comes to the public. store.steampowered.com/app/34270/
@culinarykid92
@culinarykid92 6 жыл бұрын
The Genesis collection is a pack of fairly well polished and completed games. A game jam has many games that are bite sized, buggy, and incomplete, with little polish. I like the idea, as long as they aren't charging for it and have a disclaimer on the store page that they are incomplete, potentially buggy games that will probably never be updated. And some gamers may be upset if a dev then takes their game and polishes and expands the game and charges money.
@TheRealYasri
@TheRealYasri 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it would most likely have to be free, and with tons of disclaimers. But alot of those game look more complete and polished then some of the junk valve is letting on steam and charging for. The genesis thing was more to show how they packaged it on steam as individual dlc packs to a main store entry, not really to compare polish and the like. Maybe something more like the basement collection would be similar idea. store.steampowered.com/app/214790/ Personally if people got upset because they release a feature complete version of what they did in a jam. I'd just shrug my shoulder and move on. Your getting dozens to hundreds of things to try out for most likely free and you knew what the pack was and was not going in.

I really don´t think so. There is a market for this kind of games, probably smaller than the one for AAA games, but still. Many of this games are great for a tablet or smartphone. And the indie community is also strong. In my case, I´m tired of everygame being the same. So when you see something new, like Inside/Firewatch/SuperHot, my love for videogames rise again.

This kind of games don't entertrain for too long in their current state, they would need more content and polish. This would make some amazing games, but on the other hand you don't know how long some of this mechanics will stay fun. If you increase content and play time it also have to give variation to the gameplay, else you offer to less.

Conceptualization of ideas is more difficult than actually making the game. When you know what you are doing, it becomes a hell of a lot easier than starting from absolutely nothing in a game jam. Going into this GJ you know the requirements and an idea of what is expected, so you go in with a concept. Even when they keep the idea hidden, you have multiple templates planned out and adapt accordingly. Then it is time for LITTLE SLEEP, MAX COFFEE AND ALWAYS PIZZA I am not taking away from how amazing people are, I couldn't even think of these games.

Even though my game was really bad, had basically no art, and was only kind of fun to play, I'm so thankful that I decided to participate. As an amateur game maker (just graduated High School), this was a really good learning experience that pushed me to create an idea quickly. Yeah, I made a game where you shoot to move, and there wasn't much else to it, but I had to learn how to actually make that system work on screen in just a few hours. I'm honestly someone who is quite insecure about how inexperienced I am with games, but this gave me a big confidence boost. Thanks so much Mark, for the videos, the jam, and everything.

Man, next time I'll be getting into a team, it was quite overwhelming but pretty fun anyways. Also I can't believe the ammount of skilled people who are here, it's really nice to see how people can come up with fantastic ideas and have time to actually make them into a game in that short period.

I got too busy too submit to this. But it was the thing that finally pushed me into starting a game. So thanks for that.

6:36 Wow I made a very similar game a few years ago. It had the same idea of using thrust as a weapon.

I want Orbital Punch to be a full-featured arcade style game. That looks right up my alley. Awesome collection! Game jams are one of my favorite things in the world. Having one specifically built for a community brought together by learning the keys (pun intended) of good design? Brilliant.

And while lots of devs were able to make so many brilliant games in such a short time, here at my university we're forced to make boring "has been done 1000 times with no special gimmick that sets it apart" games, what a bummer. Welp, can't be helped. Didn't play all the entries yet but some did inspire me in one or the other way. Thanks Marc for setting this up and every single one who helped making this jam such a memorable one.

Man, the quality of this jam was very high! It's just a shame that our game for some reason didn't get submitted even though we thought we submitted it... well, never mind, it was a blast to make a game, a lot of fun and definitely would participate next year again - hopefully for real that time ;)
