That PAF Conversion '53 w/headstock repair was one of the best deals shown. Even with non-period correct PAFs that's a great price, and who doesn't love a Stinger! A vintage Les Paul with a good headstock repair is a blessing for a Players of modest means. Jeff Beck approves that wraptail!

At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, I will say that the "heyday" of guitar shows ended over twenty years ago. They used to be fun and enlightening, and I made many friends among the dealers and visitors. I found many outstanding "deals"......probably #1 was an all original Blackface Deluxe (Fender Electric) no reverb , in perfect condition, for $360. But today, nearly every item there has been bought and re-sold many times among the dealers (each time inching the price up) before the public ever sees it. In general, all the dealers and sellers were musicians, almost hobbiests, who just enjoyed swapping stuff and hanging with others. Nowadays, they're all cutthroat, greedy businessmen (and yeah, they're 99% men) who flit from guitar show to guitar show, like Gypsies......with a similar lack of ethics or scruples. They can usually be identified by their big bellies, long gray hair in a ponytail, and dressed in black jeans, black T-shirts, and black sneakers.....it's like a uniform. Sorry guys.....some people just need to grow up. :)

3:43 While you were at the show, I spent all day in Jimmy's shop in Texas, playing with his stuff! Took two home because I couldn't decide. Wonderful shop with amazing inventory. He's got a 59 Burst for $325K.
@photopicker
@photopicker 2 жыл бұрын
In '69 that burst was less than $2k. That's why major personalities owned them. There were few new LP's available so it made sense to buy vintage if you call 10 years old vintage. In '74 my parents home in a upscale neighborhood cost $40k to build. They could have bought every house on their block for the $325k asking price that LP fetches these days. Problem is, anyone with talent can make a $1k LP sing. Who needs the liability and huge cash spill just to have an old beater in your collection?

Vintage guitars and rare electronics are definitely cool but collectors have driven prices crazy. Anything made by man can be duplicated though. There’s some great Dumble clones for a couple of grand and some historic reissues that are amazing so I’d rather have them and be able to get even more great gear with the saving!

It's only 2 hours from my house here in Mint Hill nah, nah, nah, nah. But seriously, you guys are killing me! I'm just too broke to be going up to the show this time around. (No way I can go to one of these without bringing home something, but it's not like I can really afford the vintage stuff you just highlighted either) Not having one in Charlotte this year I don't think. Bummer. Incidentally, your shop is only 2 hours from my house also and I'm going to come for a visit some time soon when I get over past my current brokeness.

The issue here is that generally speaking, the sorts of behaviors and modalities consistent with earning the kind of money necessary to buy this stuff (highly educated, emotionally restrained, able to defer gratification for decades) are inconsistent with the types of people who tend to be interested in owning guitars (Hell raisers, dope fiends, and ADD types) so when it comes to actually selling vintage guitars and amps, thank God for that strangest bird of the corporate world, the so-called blues lawyer! (Because I am personally never buying any of this stuff or anything like it). I aspire to one day own another new Corolla.
@timharbert7145

Yup. And if even just a few more folks had such bank accounts, the prices would just be so much higher. To make these more affordable, don't participate in the market. Just get your Harley Benton, Squire, or Epiphone and be happy. Why do you need to own the art when you can enjoy it for free?
@williamtm1965

Exactly! These people act like such insane prices are the norm. Well, they are far from the norm and vast majority of players and even musicians will not be playing this game.

The vintage guitar market has been like this for many years. It’s not for everyone, but lots of regular guys own vintage pieces. Its like old muscle cars, either you get it or you don’t. Old growth wood, vintage electronics, that can’t be duplicated. Of course, the sound.

LOL Blues lawyer . . . PRS Doctor and 60's Strat Engineer and Triple Double Dumble CEO approves of this message . The funniest thing that applies here was the head mechanic of of the teams in a vintage car resto company said, 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, what a car, they don't make like they used to . . . only 859 made in 1969 , but we've still got 1800 plus of them left today.

Before my surgery I was bringing home 150k, albeit with a lot of pain, but now I can't work at all, and due to a mistake by the SSA, I'm bringing home about $800 a month. Thank God my house is paid for!! And I have another Eastman on order, a T59/V. It should compliment my SB59/V well. Still coming to check out the shop, and bring a couple of my babies for you to check out. Baxter's going to love my Tom Rodriguez Strat that Lindy did a special wind on it for me!
