Rather than boring grammar lessons, we provide free interesting listening experiences for learners of Spanish. By listening to our stories, culture explanations and games, you will get used to real Spanish as it's used in context, and develop a native-like intuition for the grammar and the vocabulary, together with a clear pronunciation. The videos try to be easy enough for a complete beginner to start picking up the language.
Comprehensible Input means that the videos try to use basic Spanish as much as possible and be easy enough for a complete beginner in the language to get the gist of the story and start picking up vocabulary. That way you'll get that i+1 necessary to make fast progress in the language.

Hello Pablo, the new studio design looks great! I've done approximately 300 hours now on your website and I've acquired enough to enjoy most intermediate videos and some advanced ones. I can attest to this as well as this method does wonders! I’m over 600 hrs in and boy, I wish I knew about this method when I was learning English, I struggled so much with it using traditional methods and thought languages weren’t my cup of tea. Glad I found your channel, Pablo! Thank you and your Team!

I am 50 hours in and have gone from not understanding most Superbeginner content to understanding most Beginner content. It helps if you have some vocab and sense of grammar to start - I used the first 15 or so parts of Pimmsleur I for that before discovering DS, and I think it was a good route.

Regarding Narcos, you can turn off the English subtitle by setting your netflix settings to Spanish. Instead it will give you Spanish subtitles when the actors are talking in English :) But I agree it has too much English so with this series you're not maximizing your listening time.

Keep in mind, for those of us who prefer watching shows with the Spanish subtitles on, the subtitles will not match the dialogue for dubbed TV shows. This is because they have to make the dubbing more-or-less match the mouth movements of the actors, while subtitles are just translated directly. Until I feel more comfortable without subtitles, I'll probably avoid dubbed shows. Does anybody know where I can find documentaries in Spanish, especially history documentaries?

I've been learning since more than a year now, starting with Dreaming Spanish and still returning to it. I can confirm this channel and the method is like magic. I understand your videos now let's say close to 100%, even more advanced videos. Muchísimas gracias, Pablo. Also, now since long time ago I'm able to watch/listen more and more content for native Spanish speakers, which is amazing. My experience with Elite series is, for some reason it's less understandable to me as well. But I've got a tip which works for me and could help others too. I've switched the audio to Latin American Spanish and it's now perfectly easy to understand :) Don't ask me why. It's almost like a different language or something. Might be the actors don't pronounce too clearly and speak muy rapido in the original version.

When I was in high school, I thought the days the teacher turned on Bob Esponja he was just tired or didn't know what to teach. Turns out those were probably the better learning days XD Lol. Honestly, those are the only days I remember in 3 years of high school Spanish. Couldn't tell you any grammar or vocabulary lessons we did. I just started watching "Extra en Español" on KZfaq. Very cheesy, but I like it and can understand 99% at 250 hours of input. It's made for Spanish learners. There are 13 episodes, 24 minutes long per episode.

I agree about Extra en Español. I first watched a few episodes when I was at approx 125 hours. Enjoyed it, but obviously it was pretty much only Sam that I could fully understand. More recently, at ~300 hours, I've been rewatching a couple of episodes/week and will watch the entire series. What a difference those additional hours have made in what I am able to understand.

That's great, Pablo, thanks! I can follow most of your intermediate videos (though not those from your Latin American guests which suggests I need more exposure to input in those accents) but I haven't yet tried to watch any series in Spanish. These are some great suggestions for when I'm ready to take that step, particular the ones from Spain.

I have been watching "Jane the Virgin", the EEUU version, in Spanish. In my opinion, it has very useful vocabulary, conversations, vocab about children, relationships, jobs, politics, crime, everything. I also loved "El Hotel". I started Velvet, and Las Chicas de Cables - too. I love La Casa de Flores and finished the first season. One that I really loved, El Neighbor, as I love comedy, but it only has one season. I will check out Paquita Salas tonight. I also have been watching Merlin in Spanish. What is interesting to me, is that the dubbed audio is different from the subtitles. I guess they paid two different people to translate the audio and the subtitles. I learn different ways to say the same thing by comparing the differences.

Helo Pablo. I watch Spanish language series and films, and have done so since before I started to learn formally. El Vecino I found a bit silly at first, but half way through the first episode I was hooked. It is very engaging. The dialogue is real, everyday Spanish. I won´t pretend to have understood much of what was being said. I watched with English subs at first, then Spanish subs, then none at all. I do that with all films and TV series. Now I can watch with no subtitles now that I know what is going on and I can really concentrate on the spoken word. I would pick out sentences and repeat them (Quim Gutíerrez speaks quickly naturally, I have found). One sentence in particular I repeated over and over. It is great for pronunciation and speed. "Mira qué pasa cuando te hago caso." I felt I achieved something when I could say the sentence as quickly as Quim Gutíerrez. Ha! Also, I really liked ELITE and the various short stories that came after with the characters from the TV series. I won´t mention films I really enjoyed here in case you have a video about films in particular.

Gracias

I have been watching the three Trollhunters cartoon series in Spanish with English Subtitles, Then in Spanish with Spanish subtitles, then a third time without subtitles. The cartoons seem just a bit easier than the programs you mentioned in your video and since I only caught about 90% of what you said, easier seems to help a bit at the moment. I also used the same pattern with El Vecino, and Siempre Bruja. (I seem to have a type when it comes to tv shows..lol)

Hey Pablo! Thanks for another great video ☺️ according to your poster 300 hours is intermediate level but understanding TV shows is much later in your poster. Do you think watching these shows after 300 hours is too soon should I wait longer or are these specifically chosen because they are a lot easier?
@DreamingSpanish

Just try it! If your understanding is too low you get distracted because you won't understand enough of the story. If that happens you can go back to easier content until your level is high enough.

@@DreamingSpanish Does the 'rule' of prioritizing content of which you are able to understand the majority (80-90%) apply here as well? I tried Chicas de Cable and could understand maybe half. I’ve studied Spanish traditionally but struggle with understanding TV series like 'Paquita Salas.' I think this is the hardest one on the list. Another KZfaqr analyzed language nuances, in series, and analysed spoken language compared to written language. He also mentioned different styles of speech like the accent 'quinqui,' (??? Spelling)which I found enlightening and I did not understand that. Challenges include fast speech, words blending, and diverse speaking styles, colloquialisms and swearing. I can read a book in Spanish looking up keywords and things, but I couldn’t watch series. Paquito salas - this is super advanced and not intermediate in my view.

Modern Family is so fast that I have trouble keeping up even in English! I can’t imagine being able to follow it in Spanish unless I watch he English version of the episode immediately prior. I found the pace of Casa de Papel slower than most tv shows. Much of it is spoken by the narrator who speaks slowly for a Spaniard. I only saw the beginning of Paquita Salas and found that one very fast for example. I few American shows I would like to see dubbed in Spanish are Frasier, Sopranos, LA Law, and Big Bang Theory. Does anybody know if they are available on Netflix in Spain?

It saddens me that, through dubbing, the Spanish-speaking world will be seduced into watching the American series Friends and How I Met Your Mother, both of which are empty of value, to put it very politely.

If you're reading English you won't be learning any Spanish. Start with the superbeginner videos and you'll be able to learn Spanish in Spanish.

If you're trying to learn Spanish, definitely check out superbeginner videos, they're worth your time! I've improved my Spanish comprehension so quickly over the past month mainly from the Dreaming Spanish videos and it was fun and easy. You won't need English subtitles for this video anymore when you understand enough to start watching Netflix shows
