When the normally hears or thinks about a V8 engine, almost always they're going to think of an American engine. After all, over the last 50 plus years, pretty much all US based performance cars are equipped with V8 engines. Obviously that's changing a bit with modern times, but the point still stands.
With that in mind though, the US is not the only country to produce awesome V8 engines, so today we're going to flip the script on its head and look at the best Japanese V8 engines ever.
There's some other engines from Japanese that I think are worth mentioning real quick, including the Toyota R36V which is an insane 3.6L V8 that outputs upwards of 1,000hp, the Toyota V which is Toyota's little known hemi V8 engine from the 1960s and we'll have a video on that soon, and the Mitsubishi 8A80.

Agreed. I have a Sequoia and use it to tow a lot. My only complaint is the gas mileage. Empty or loaded it's not great. 😂 On the plus side I have done nothing but oil and filters and so far one coolant swap (after 5 years) and one transmission flush. I still have the original spark plugs.

I just wish Toyota had made a 3UR-FSE and given it a less aggressive axle ratio to optimize performance and fuel economy.

@imnotusingmyrealname4566 Жыл бұрын
The 1UR had FE and FSE versions. The FE in Lexus cars made 322 hp, the FSE 385 hp. That's a 20% performance bump. The 3UR with D4-S would make 455 hp! And because it's direct injection it wouldn't even hurt fuel economy. Now we have this hybrid turbo crap that's way more complicated than a 3UR-FSE would ever be.

@illeyez505the 1uz didn’t come in trucks the 2uz did and anyone who’s claims the 1uz to be junk has lost all credibility. There’s plenty of Lexus cars sitting at around 400,000 miles before the engine even gave up not to mention the couple who have made it to a million miles on it. I had a 3uz gs430 which is very similar to the 1uz and that car had 266,000 miles on it before I sold it. It never let me down and I took it on multiple 12hr road trip.

I have seen those Nissan trucks crap out suddenly several times. I do believe some people abuse their trucks though. But I am noy joking. I have seen the Nissan V8 truck engines experience catastrophic failures at very low milage. But These days Nissans seem to end up in the possession of people that abuse and do not take care of their vehicles.

Hmmm... Not a JDM V8 expert, but I never realised/paid attention to the fact that a 3UR-FE uses a clutch fan. Wonder what kind of power gains can be had by switching to an electric fan setup? My 03 Lightning came factory with a clutch fan, but many convert to an electric fan setup out of a newer F150 and they get decent power gains from it.
