I am actually glad that counter to your recommendation, VKB chose to make the whole grip section the same plastic as it is, rather than a rubbery grip. My X52's grip did not survive the heat in another country, even though it would have been fine in the US.

@@franciscoalmeida7017 I had the Hotas One, it felt like a toy but worked fine, but it doesnt have nearly enough buttons for space or flight sims. I then upgraded to two t16000m's, they were fine until they developed the infamous Z-axis drift. After disassembly and cleaning the sensors track again, but I still with they had more buttons accessible on the stick not the base. Though not as bad as the Hotas One, the T16000m still feels like cheap plastic. I have not used the VKB Gladiator, but every review says they are a large step up in quality from the cheap thrustmasters, if my t16000ms keep breaking I'll probably eventually replace them with these. If you are ok with eventually having to tinker with/repair the stick, the T16000m is decent if you dont play too much. But if you plan on really getting into space or flight sims something like the Galdiator is worth the investment. I wish I had just gotten something like this VKB right off the bat for its reliability and features.. You know what they say: "Buy cheap, buy twice"

Great review. I have the NXT premium as my right hand stick. It's a delightful stick to use either HOTAS, HOSAM or HOSAS. You have to go through Aliexoress if ordering from other than US and Canada but yeh good turn around and shipping and slick product. I went from Keyboard and mouse to HOSAS with a cheap twist joystick as my left hand amd I'm loving it. Will be getting another NXT Premium for left hand when I can. @@Simenthusiast I play through shadowpc which I've found to be really good as my machine really isn't lol. It has given me some issues with the gladiator not always being recognised, I think because shadow looks for discrete drivers for USB pass through!? when that's sorted it works great! The difference between my x55 stick and the standard gladiator is night and day, the gladiator is so much smoother, with no clunky looseness. In terms of distance flying, and clear of combat, i control the stick at the bottom, with my hand resting on the base, a bit like driving a truck with the side of my hand on the wheel, it's relaxed, and less tiring. with the stick though, it also Increases the resistance (work needed) for me to make even small course changes, this helps me smooth out the negative effects of resting tremors in my hands, by placing all movement under greater tension, saves me needing to kill the feel of the stick with dead zones. The x55 throttle works really well with the gladiator, as you suggested. The other nice thing was being able to set the throttle tension to feel like the gladiators. Overall I'm really happy with spending food money on the stick, (not that I'm advocating for going without food to get a vkb stick, but I'd not give anyone a hard time a out it. Its a great stick) will shout back in a few weeks after it's bedded in, and let you know how it's going. My thinking is very much in line with yours regarding quality, comfort, and just how good feels. thanks for the reply Jean, tc.

The only thing is that for non-US customers (i.e. the rest of the world) this stick (premium) costs almost as much as the TM Warthog ($300 CAD), which from all I have read is a far superior stick. For example, when priced regularly (they're at gouge prices currently) I can get the Warthog stick as low as $310 CAD ($228 USD) with taxes. Costco (when in stock) is $588 CAD ($432 USD) and that includes the Warthog throttle. So for the rest of us a much better comparison is with the Warthog.

Like i said in the video, it's always important to buy something that you can afford, and good for you. For me, this fit my needs at the time.

I paid 228€ incl. shipping for the right handed premium NXT in Germany. The Warthog stick would have cost 299€ which is way higher than your Canadian price. Interesting to see that there are differences besides the obvious economical ones. The major advantage of the NXT is that you don't necessarily need an additonal throttle and rudder pedals and that it seems to be a higher quality build than compareable upper entry class products. To me it was worth it. Next step would be the advanced VKB or even Virpil.

I've got the warthog. Some people love them but I don't think it's right for me, I find the grip is comfortable and works well but I hate the gimbal and spring setup. Personally the base doesn't feel nice and the spring tension is aggressively hard, also has a huge bump in the middle which I personally find hard for fine accuracy. They are also prone to stiction due to the poor moulding on the gimbal. Some people have sanded the sharp edges off the gimbal and regreased them. luckily mine hasn't had this issue yet but I've been warned it is a very common issue, also I have heard doing the green spring mod can help a bit otherwise you can use the virpl warbrd base to upgrade it as it's compatible with the Thrustmaster warthog grip, I've just ordered the vkb gladiator Evo premium to try out though as it seems pretty good for the price

Elite dangerous is in space obviously so you have thrusters that move you in 6 directions so the up down left right thrusters would find a decent home there. I use the twcs throttle analog stick for thrusters but have had many issues making things like joystick gremlin and or target software to make things work properly. The worst part of joysticks are the issues with setting up curves and deadzones. This task can become a nightmare because you will find NO1 responds on any forum including the hotas sub reddit either because no1 knows shit about the software or... idk. So be prepared for those issues

Thanks for the good review! I want to buy the VKB NXT. As i am coming from sim racing, i am completely new to flight sims. I really don't know what are the minimum analog input requirements to fly comfortably. In a sim rig tour video from youtuber gamermusclevideo i saw, that i can substitute (more or less) the flight rudder pedals with my existing racing pedals (clutch and gas have the same resistance and travel distance). Keeping that in mind, is it enough to just buy the joystick and use its integrated throttle and these two dial wheels? I want to mount the joystick in my sim rig between my legs. So in this position i could use the integrated throttle an two dial wheels with the other hand. Is this a good idea? Which advantage would an external throttle add in this scenario? I want to try MSFS2020, IL2, Star Wars Squadrons (don't have the time for DCS and Star Citizen). My main focus is sim racing, but i also want to have some fun with flight sims and don't want to spend several hundreds of euros... Would be really nice to hear your opinion!

Hi Alex, this is going to be a long reply so grab a cup of coffee and some cookies. I also started with sim racing, and hopefully I'll be able to answer all your questions. I would not just buy the joystick alone. You will 100% want a throttle for flight sim. The integrated throttle is nice for some things but it just doesn't have enough travel or positioned in a way to be fun to use a throttle full time. Mounting in the middle, miiiiiiight be a little awkward on long races, or with round wheels depending on your wheel diameter. Using your racing pedals as rudders is a good idea, but you'll have to use some software to turn 2 pedals into one. I forgot what the name of it was, joystick gremlin, or joytokey. Personally, I ended up using the joystick twist axis to control rudder, and it works just fine after tweaking for sensitivity. I wouldn't recommend the cheap Thrustmaster t rudder pedals, they're garbage, and not accurate at all. Let us know what you decide, and how it goes.

@paristo
@paristo 3 жыл бұрын
@@Simenthusiast the VKB software requires little learning that what is the logic in it by GUI (tabs like Global etc). Once the small learning curve is over, it becomes easy to use. But, then comes a another learning curve that is how different things can be programmed, like example LED's in the black box or axis zones buttons (axis2buttons) or how you change the buttons order in DirectX or how to make a button register continue output as repeat until you release button etc. Like example to get a "pinky button" act as a SHIFT that if one press and holds it, it is temporary. But if it is pressed less than a 0.2 seconds it is MODE button to change to another set of buttons. And then have blackbox LED change color to inform that. That requires then just creativity to do things by knowing what is wanted. Example press longer than 0.3 seconds the MCG PRO trimmer hat and it will shift stick X and Y axis sensitivity to lower, for air refueling or landing where you get extra accuracy to perform very small controls for aircraft even when making large movements. Once one does few such tests, it becomes easy to understand and do huge amount of all kind things. And main challenge is really to know what is wanted, than how to do it. And that is good GUI design that it is easy to use, regardless is it difficult to learn.

Hi Ho Chun Wong, it's up to you. For DCS i don't use them at all, but for Flight Simulator 2020 i use them as rotaries for autopilot settings like vertical speed and altitude hold.

Someone mentioned it was some kind of super durable plastic. It may be, but to me it feels tinny and kinda cheap. However, it does feel durable.

Hey man, would you consider this stick a massive upgrade from the X52? I'm considering the premium one for the extra thumb hat, but I am not sure to be honest. The only downside if my x52 right now is the lack of the extra 2 hats, I hate using shit keys to map extra hats on the same hat. Also, for the grip a good way to improve it is to just add a tennis racket grip tape, they really give a premium feeling to anything really.

Hi AzuAlx Ex, thanks for the tip on tennis racket grip tape. Someone mentioned sugru, but i think the grip might be better. I'll look into it. I do have another video where i compare both sticks directly. I agree with you on the shift keys, it's kind of annoying. Personally, i'm pretty happy with the upgrade. Unfortunately i can't really offer more than that. It's a good stick, does it have some faults, yes, but i do think it is better than my x52 pro.

@@Simenthusiast Thank you for the fast reply, I've seen on youtube another video of someone showing the hats being wiggly like hell, and activate almost to the very edge of the hat. I still think the price is way too high right now for this stick, it should had been 100-110 for standard and 150-160 for the premium if you ask me

The T16000 Thrustmaster is pretty sub par imo, I choose to stick to using my old logitech 3d pro over using that stick, it has a terrible number of buttons they feel bad including its hat and the stick itself it springs to center way too aggressively, then theres's that stupid bright orange light at its base that turns on when ever you move the stick ugh /facepalm.

If you want to understand WHY the VKB is a superior product watch and read these: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/opOgZbmXktmolHk.html - Virpil kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNSala-hs8Cpcpc.html - Thrust not so much master. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZ6GjZuhzqiycnU.html - Yes, the Gladiator uses the same design approach as their top of the line. If you know what the FCC/EMC symbols in the back of your electronics means then you should be concerned about the comparisons above. Simply put, the VKB is the only one that has a CHANCE of being Electromagnetically compatible, meaning it shouldn't be affected by interference. If you want to know more about the things the guy in this video is talking about and how they really work (travel, resistance, etc) then read this. Even if you're not an engineer, it's worth understanding why VKB is the best. To put it simply is the best option for smooth control from a GROUNDED desktop. jaytheskepticalengineer.com/fathering-and-hobbies/flight-simming/flight-sim-gear-reviews/vkb-gunfighter-mcg-pro-mk-ii/

@@Simenthusiast Seriously, if you have either the X-55 or the X-52 throttle you should put it up for sale. There's a market for it from those of us who know Logitech, Thrustmaster and Virpil really suck for the price when it comes to Sticks. Literally, you would have competition. 1: Logitech's software STINKS and their parts BREAK! 2: Thrustmaster just uses VERY heavy springs so much that their Warthog stick BREAKs because of the cheap metal they use. 3: Virpil is an Electro magnetic Compatibility disaster waiting to happen. You're left with no option but to buy the stick from one brand the throttle from another and since Thrustmaster is in the 300-400 range and the Virpil version 3 sucks because it doesn't have detents we're left with the Thrustmaster TWCS which is GREAT and the X-52 and X-55 ones from Logitech.
