In this video, we dive into the world of a super-exclusive and little known RC manufacture, that back in the day produced some of the most exclusive and track-focused RC weapons. Not only do we get a close up look at one of these fragile unicorns, I actually get to drive a never before driven example!
With its exotic design and composite materials for 1995, does it still stands up today?

It was a pleasure to share this beast....I may stick in my Futaba 4pk gear or treat it to a new set. I have the esc programming card so I’ll also give brake programming a go 😁 I will be back with it in the summer and hopefully with the shell/wings painted up 👍

Awesome car buddy and in lovely shelf queen condition, these are amazing buggies. Gavin used some pics of NIB X10 at the end (also has the Ltd plaque which sits across the front wing brace as was an early pre-order which I bought new), over the years I managed to acquire 8 Predators 5 Buggies and 3 Touring cars, such amazing engineering!!!

I owned and raced an original Predator, an XK5 and an XK98 (which I still own). The later models weren't 'that' fragile but unfortunately they could never shake that reputation from the first version. The wishbones were way too thin on the first models and the gearboxes were incredibly unreliable, due to a combination of the materials used for the gears, the mesh size and alignment issues between the plastic bulkheads with the carbon fiber tub chassis. That was all resolved in later models and it wasn't that much more fragile than the competition, it was an amazing car but I was usually the only person driving one at my club and competitions.

Thankyou for sharing this. I had never heard of this car. I started in R/C in 1988. And my Grand Father sold Jerobee cars in the 60s and 70s from his shop in California. I was extremely fortunate to have found a Custom Works Dominator dirt oval car in very good condition. Chain driven cars amaze me. I remember these Dominators running down my 2nd hand Optima on the dirt oval tracks in the Los Angeles area in the late 80s. What you said about the X-10 is the same impression I have of the Dominator. Fast and properly equiped and tuned insanely fast, but fragile. So this example I have is slated for a milder short course truck motor/esc combo and test laps around a dirt oval.

I prepped and built many predators to national championship level and had some great results racing for t tech. The car was always held back by being more tricky than most to build for correct performance and reliability.

I love RC cars,... I used to race all the time when my son was living at home,... we'd build and race the cars together! Now he's all grown up with his own family and I have saved our best race car for his son! I have to say though,... am very disappointed in the RC community having mostly forsaken the Nitro Engines (the REAL deal RC engines),... working on a real 2 stroke motor and tuning it properly was such a joy,... anyways,... I very much enjoy watching your builds as it brings back so many memories! Take care!

Back when I used to race in the 90’s, one of my mates at the club had one of these. It looked so different from everything else out there. I believe on his version, the wings were upside down aero foils rather than scoops like this version. A super interesting piece of RC history.

I have had the privilege of meeting Richard at the 93 Worlds IFMAR @Basildon, he brought in the prototype with the special carbon chassis & full aluminum front & rear gearbox housing. You just know it was a revolutionary car and with amazing potential. I wonder if Mr Weatherly would be interested in pioneering a come back if he had an investor/s wealthy enough to get him started again?

@@NIGBEATS It already is. For the cost of a modern top-end RC car, you can get into American-style Rallycross with an old Subaru Legacy and some off-road tires and still have money left over to invest in suspension upgrades and safety gear. I wonder why no other RC car manufacturer ever copied the rear-inboard-shock design. That design makes the most sense to me, since the traditional upright rear shock configuration interferes with the rear spoiler. With the rear inboard shocks, that is not an issue.

@@Dudemania3000 I'm pretty sure it was but was a long time ago. The associated team drivers were using it in 4wd as they didn't produce one themselves. There was some kind of deal struck between associated and tenth tech. Like I said it was many years ago and I think if you dig deeper it was based around a tc3 touring chassis in the early days, possibly just during the early development but I'm sure I remember reading about it in radio race car at the time. Dig a little deeper I'm sure I'm right. Unless I've got mixed up with another chassis

@@richwrag3308 Team Associated drivers may have used it but it was a new bespoke design and came out around 1990/1991 and is English, All of it was a new ground up design by a race engineer and originally used a stickpack. I have the complete history somewhere on file and I have 8 Predators in my collection 5 buggies and 3 of the later touring cars (which were derived from the original buggy design). The Team Associated TC3 didn't come out until 1999 many years after the Predator and they may have borrowed the Predators transmission design!!

@@Dudemania3000 oh, OK. After I messaged you I started to doubt what I'd said and think I may have been confusing it with the early prototype durangos. I remember the predator being released and being in awe of its design. I too am English but couldn't get a predator as I've always called them anywhere as Internet was in its early days and none of my local hobby shops could get me one. Cheers for putting me straight on the topic though as it stops me looking like a plank in the future. But a fine piece of kit nonetheless
