Windows laptops have gotten pretty inexpensive over the years. And more importantly, they're cheap but decent. No longer do you need to choose between a cheap crappy Windows computer or a high-end gaming machine.
One such laptop is being hailed around the web as the best laptop for under $200 and it's called the HP 14-an013nr... yeah, not the best name, but, regardless, here's why if you only have $200 to spend on a new laptop, why you should probably get this one.
The HP 14-an013nr (sigh) is the top contender for a number of reasons.

Useful review. I bought my Win. laptop in a thrift store for $5, did a $20 repair myself and still use the machine. It even has a remote that was useful before Chromecast came along.

If you want a cheap laptop and don't plan on gaming I'd highly recommend the thinkpad x220, It's been doing great for me, if you don't mind a 12 inch laptop, you can get one for around $100, comes with an i5, 4gb of ram, I upgraded mine to 8gb with just $20, and usually comes with 250-500 gb storage, which you can also upgrade. They run linux really well and I get almost 10 hours of battery life out of it.

My used g470 was around $100 with a i5 2450m @2.6-3.1ghz and 8gb of ram. It has 4 usbs (3usbs + 1esata), vga, hdmi, ethernet, 3.5mm combo jack, a good screen, sony dvdrw drive, a awesome keyboard (even tho isnt as good as a thinkpad one), it has a good wireless card. I think it was the best deal i could do for that price.

How about durability? 1/2(?)years ago, bought an HP for 600 dollars and it is now completely falling apart, without battery and sometimes reaches a 100° during intense loads :c

@@azurekite3870 Back then I didn't know much about computers, so I would blast it with a fan whenever I knew it'd be too hot. It died after HDD failure.. I'd say a quality product would not buy again.

I've got a similar HP laptop. One thing you didn't mention is how well linux runs on them. Replace Windows with Ubuntu or Linux Mint and reclaim 30 of that 38 gig the OS took. The SSD failed and I was able to replace it with a 1TB regular mechanical drive that I bought for $40. The speed increase from linux more than negates the loss from the mechanical drive. Love this laptop & love Linux!

Bought one of these, great little laptop! Added in a 240 GB SSD and an extra 8 GB stick RAM. The only problem is, the built-in HP Assistant (whatever it's officially called), keeps trying to install the HD video driver, and constantly fails. I tried running it manually, and it looks successful, but after a reboot it's still running on the old, built-in driver. Any ideas? Thanks for hooking me up!

I LOVE this laptop; been using it for like a year now. It even has a built in hotspot like wtf. I've been using it like a Chromebook by not storing really anything on it. It even worked pretty well with GIMP!!!

This is my laptop.... I have downloaded a couple of apps such as photoshop and a couple of games aswell. The laptop is laggy as hell and takes 10 minutes to open a browser....

I used to use this laptop. I'd reccomend changing it from windows to linux so it can run faster. It still won't be great but it'll be a lot better

Dedicated GPU might be worth the price on itself, specially if it's not soldered to the board and can be upgraded later. Don't know about that Athlon though, if it's also not soldered, definitely worth the 200 right there

You can't change the "ssd" its emmc... (one the one linked in the description at least). And btw your processor comparison may be correct, the "sligthly higher clock speed" means nothing between 2 differents architectures with very different IPC.

Arzolt yup. I've tried changing the Ssd to something larger. I've never seen an Ssd like it. I don't thing the mobo has an sata ports inside for expanding storage. So you're either going to have to use a USB, SD card or a portable hdd

Which one specifically? Acer makes a shitton of variants of each PC it sells. There's the E5-575-33BM for $350 new, and that's going to be a lot better than this HP. Much faster, backlit keyboard, FHD display, although it's bigger (15.6") and thus less portable. You also need to add a m.2 boot SSD, and maybe an extra 4 GB of RAM, so you're looking at maybe $450, but you're still getting a much better PC. Still, it's going to end up about twice the price of this HP even if you upgrade the RAM and add storage, so keep that in mind; the HP is "worse" but cheaper, so it depends on what you need the PC for and what your budget is.

I own this laptop since it came out and it works just great. Though I dunno where he bought his comments, I spent less than $100 dollars turning it into a laptop that still today is very competent. Added a 2.5" Samsung EVO SSD (and you need a SATA Adaptor, which he didn't mention), and another 4GB stick of RAM, turned this budget Laptop into my daily driver when I'm out of home. Later I found out the internal drive is an m.2, so maybe at a given time I might swap that to be my primary and the 2.5 SSD as secondary.

Based on my experience with my own laptop and laptops my friends had... YOU DO WANT TO AVOID AMD ON LAPTOPS... because they are likely to overheat with age even after the cooling was cleaned and laptops were put on cooling pad... My laptop started to overheat after year of usage... My friends laptop started overheat after about same time... All the laptops were different brand so it's not brand exclusive thing... pay bit more for intel i3 and some sort of nvidia if you need dedicated graphics card

You say this has an eMMC drive, which means you can't upgrade to an SSD since they are [usually] a different size. is this an eMMC in a SSD slot, or is their no room for a traditional 2.5" SSD?

good thing : it's available in my country more good thing : it has 500 GB HDD (old but gold) bad thing : the resolution is only standard 1366x768 & a bit more edpensive then there more bad thing : the RAM is only single channel! more more bad thing : Asus & Lenovo have much better specs (A8-7410 or even A9-9400/9410) with only 20 bucks more!

Rino AP lol, my xps 15 can't last very long due to the 4k screen (it had an 8 hours battery life on day 1 and fell to below 2 hours 3 months later) the battery was even replaced twice and it Apprently wouldn't be covered by the extended warranty because it's not considered 'hardware'

Glad you mentioned any other questions would be welcomed. I have a MacBook Pro (2011) and my ex has broken in several times and gained access to, causing a security issue. I've considered replacing the MacBook Pro with another MacBook and of course they're all expensive. I'd narrowed my replacement choice down to a MacBook Pro 13" basic model for $1,300 even tho I prefer a 15 inch like the one I own that's been infiltrated. The HP that you've reviewed seems like a great alternative for my needs. If you have any other ideas that might help me with the current MacBook Pro I'd appreciate it. Apple helped me to reset the management control and scan with Malwarebytes however, the computer still seems to have another user. If I'm using the mousepad and steering it right the curser may go left or even worse when I click on something it doesn't work. It also makes a strange sound as if I'd hit something when I haven't touched it. It's also showing the little beach ball turning as if it's working to accomplish something...that little ball lasts a long time and it happens frequently. I've got more than 75% of my storage free but the computer is slower as well.

vihanga akalanka their new ones are amazing, easily beating out their Intel counterparts but losing a few percent when it comes to gaming, other than that with their larger thread count, they're great.

guys you do realize that ryzen hasn't released into mobile market yet? you're saying how good it is(and I agree that it is) but it's only about desktop market at the moment. Laptops with amd cpus are still crap compared to Intel right now

Just bought a HP 14-AN013NR 14" Laptop AMD E2-7110 1.8GHz 4GB 32GB eMMC Windows 10 from Walmart Manufacturer Refurbished for $149 Bucks delivered ! Going to put a 8 gig stick of memory in it have a 256Gb SSD to put in it using a Hard DriveCaddy Adapter end .will have a fast just over $200 computer.

+Arctic Fox won't find any Intel for this price that isn't a mobile processor unfortunately and AMD isn't bad at all (and way cheaper)

what you didnt mension is that you can add a second hdd or sdd 2.5 inch drive in tandom with the ssd already inside so i added a 256gb hdd from hitachi that was lying arround after buying a 5 dollar converter online

i have litterally the same thing but it has a intel i5 6th gen with intel hd 620 i forgot if it was 6th or 7th sorry. I t came with 8 gigs of ram i dont know thepricing
