I've been a Morimoto fan since I installed Morimoto HID Projectors into my 1999 NB headlights. They really pay attention to light patterns and quality. I also replaced the fog lights in my 2014 Mazda 3 with Morimoto LED exact replacement projector assemblies. These are real quality products!

Been using Cibie E Codes with Hella 100/55 watt bulbs for years which are a vast improvement over stock. I hardly drive my NA at night but if it was still my daily there might be a case for these to go along with the LED bulbs I put in the rear taillights.

i put in "Morimoto Sealed7 1.0 Bi-LED Headlight" probably 5 years ago. i've been happy with them. they were $150 for two. the light output "looks pretty similar" to what was showing up on the tool cabinet in the video. i hardly ever need the high beams. the pattern on them is extremely wide, more so than any other vehicle i've driven.

Looks like it has a pretty solid bottom cut off line too I just ordered one for my motorcycle..you think I’ll be able to see the road under that bottom cut off line or will I have to put separate lights on to see that part of the road?

Yes, the price is high in comparison with a number of other offerings. So is the performance as well. Those of us that live in areas where the number one cause of accidents may be deer or other large animals on the road as well as those of us that have reached the age of forty or so and have noticed our night vision is rapidly diminishing will probably appreciate these more than others. Another factor to consider is the rapidly appreciating prices on NA Miatas. The days of finding a clean Miata for $2500-$3000 appear to be in the rear view mirror. That 3k car may be 7k in a lot of areas now and it gets painful to lose one to a deer, or a jacked up 4x4 truck and $700 while very high might be a lot cheaper than having your insurance agent tell you they are totaling your car because the company thinks it is too expensive to repair. It's also a matter of priority and also perspective. Would I rather have the new PlayStation X that will be worth little in three years when X+1 is introduced or a NA that may be worth double what it was three years ago? Everyone has their own decision making process. I just bought some new reloading equipment that cost pretty close to what these headlights do. LOL Probably not a wise decision at all, but we each have our weaknesses and and it is not always a significant other! I might also add, look at prices of things we buy routinely. Inflation is running rampant and car parts don't seem to be escalating, in general, as fast as a lot of things. Some paid a lot for the GE Nighthawks/TruckLites seven or 8 years ago and they are still popular. The Morimoto's are not that much more than those when inflation is taken into account. Anyone that shops knows what pricing has done in the past year. I am not saying these are not expensive but they may not be that bad in comparison to other high end items in today's market. It's a question of priorities. To see or to play is a different matter when compared to "or eat"

Some people really don’t even care about the money as much. They’re just that enthusiastic about lighting mods. I’m one of those crazy people. I have $800 lights on my $500 Pickuo truck lol. So there are people who would spend ridiculous money on lights for cars that aren’t necessarily worth it in most people’s eyes.

I'd recommend Koito European Spec (E-Code) 7" round headlights for your NA Miata. They look similar to stock and have glass lenses and replaceable 60/55W H4 bulbs. Direct plugin without any adapters or wiring modifications. Far superior to the standard sealed beams. They cost a lot less than these LEDs and if you prefer the Koito's can be upgraded to higher wattage bulbs.

There also exists the Holley RetroBright 7" round. They actually collaborated w/ Morimoto for the LED and optics but have that really classic look. Even have that classic color as an option. I'd love to see those tested on the Miata to see how they blend.

We don't feel the need to carry every single option out there. After all our testing was said and done, we thought these had the best performance of any light we'd tested, so that's what we wanted to offer. If you are looking for outstanding performance with a more traditional style, we also offer the Holley Retrobrights, which offer great output at a lower price point. flyinmiata.com/products/holley-retrobright-led-headlights-7-round

Not that I expect to have the price of these available in the near future . . . But yet another display of light pattern with Both headlights on. Which I find 'sub-optimal'. The fine details of light pattern matter, and a single light on a flat reflective background is far more educational than a pair on the same display space. Ideally both options are shown, as some single light pattern issues are compensated for when both lights are correctly aimed, but not all. If the demo was redone with a much smaller aperature, or shorter shutter, we'd see more details of the current 'blown out' light pattern. Given the recent advances in reflective coatings on highway signs, any lifting of low beam Or high beam to the right produces far too much back glare for aging eyes to deal with. We all Will have cataracts, if something doesn't kill us earlier. Hoping everyone concerned with Miata lighting lives to, and past, that age. Current lense technology for replacing cataract fogged lens in our eyes is not compatible with such strong reflective light coming back from overly enthusiastic road signs. These are nice for being seen with headlights older than many drivers, but terrifying in demanding driving situations with modern headlights where details of both traffic, and road surface matter to both safe passage, and avoiding major tire/suspension damage. I'm using Cibie housings, with the E-code angled up right low beam, and can't wait to find affordable lights with better pattern (Dumb me took a recommendation for LED bulbs seriously, Daniel Stern was right.) and serious, safe, intensity.

why they are poly lens not a real glass ?
@1112gmatta
@1112gmatta 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think US DOT allows for glass anymore on any vehicle (after like the 1990's), because of the hazard that arises from glass when involved in a car accident. A car that *had* glass originally can still replace with glass lenses (that's why you can buy it at the store), but since this is supposed to be a universal light for even newer vehicles (I'm thinking Jeeps and whatnot), glass doesn't really make sense from a manufacturing standpoint. At least, that's what I take away from it.

Hilarious that they worry so much about glass but not trucks that have 6' tall hoodlines and massive 6' x 4' front sections. We can't have popup headlights because we might break someone's shin but it's ok to shatter their entire bodies on massive trucks.

Don't take this the wrong way, as you know that I love you guys....but for this price range and difference of price from lets say one of the better ones you have tested, I would have to see a side by side both in light output and pattern and overall quality of construction in order to convince me that they are worth the cost. I'm personally more interested in light output, and how well they project down the road then I am for light pattern and cut off. To be honest I would also be more interested and likely to buy, quality led bulbs to go in my already upgraded Hella lights which themselves were already a major upgrade from the stock sealed beams. Just my opinion, but I think that offering just the bulbs for the Hellas as sort of a second tier option would be great and you would likely sell a ton as well. In fact you may want to consider the above comparison and add a third car with the leds in the Hella lights as a three way comparison like here is what you can expect with the best of the ones we found on amazon, the next is our quality led bulbs in Hella housings , and finally the Morimoto lights as the ultimate. If people can see side by side you will be much more likely to convince them to pay an additional $600. Can you tell I have a marketing degree? I'll always be available to work, for you if you decide that you want to want to expand with remote CSRs again.......

I'm surprised that you don't understand WHY the rubber piece is in front of the bulbs; I learned about it over 30 years ago!. It is like a squeegee that wipes down the front of the bulb. Saying it is for "aesthetics" is straining at gnats. Your suggestion to remove it to avoid damaging the plastic "lens" in front illustrates an good reason NOT to buy these lights. The plastic lenses used on modern cars discolor and abrade rapidly; because of this when I installed Hella E-Codes on my OTM VW Jetta TDI, I had to replace them a few years later with glass lensed E-Codes. If these were available with glass instead of plastic, I might consider them but not until then.
@FlyinMiataVideo
@FlyinMiataVideo 2 жыл бұрын
We weren't convinced that was the sole purpose for the rubber piece was to clean the headlight. While it might scrub the front of the glass, it's only going to work when the headlights are actively raised or lowered. If you are driving in bad weather, you are going to have them constantly raised, meaning they aren't going to be cleaning the lens unless you constantly, manually flip them up and down while driving. We've noticed no real difference beyond aesthetics with that rubber piece removed. The white car in the video is almost daily driven, in all weather, driving with these headlights and no trim for quite a while now, with no ill effects or build up of dirt on the lenses. We haven't noticed a difference with or without that piece. We understand these lights will not be for everyone, but the light output and performance of these lights were worth it for us.
