The Best Lily of the Valley Fragrances - Trio

Күн бұрынSo it's May Day and Lily of the Valley is very much associated with May, so why not. LOV is very much often confused with other lilies. They are absolutely miles apart and very different from each other.
LOV are the greener sharper white flowers, sometimes a bit soapy and clean smelling. It is an accord I don't believe it exists as an actual thing. It does create a distinctive lovely touch in a fragrance though.

Lily of the valley is probably my favourite of the white florals at this point. Something so reassuring, zingy and beautiful. So glad you talked about my Gnome. 😂. No, no Jasmine luv. But I get it. Thanks for a lovely video for May Day . . Dam. . No white flower emoji!

Yes the emojis are very poor 🤣. And yes it would be impossible not to have mentioned that one. I think I fairness it was the one that showed me how much I appreciate the note. And yes it is a lovely note, for me really quite similar to jasmine when it's not too soapy

We all love a bit of the ol Lily Allen of the Valley. You're correct on the poisonous of lily for animals. Happy Mayday, Jon!

As for LOV - I enjoy it as a supporting note, but not so much when it's front and center as I prefer the other white florals that are soapy goodness bringers. I have to go with neroli, jasmin, and my all time is orange blossoms. For LOV - my mum always loved them being front and center. Molinard Muguet and Yves Rocher Muguet are fantastic for layering. For me, they are quite either a love or hate. Take that Yum Pistachio... for me, the LOV ruined it as it was so unexpected and not what I want for a 'gourmand' leaning fragrance. I don't think I'm the only one. 😂As for water lily - or also known as water lotus(I believe) is easy to catch a whiff of it in the Rituals green bottle products. Now, it's called Jing, but can't remember the original name.

Yes actually I know what you mean LOV does have a vintage reputation doesn't it. And the older ones were well a heck of a lot and very strong 🤣. Your mum had good taste. I know what you mean when it can get a little too soapy. Making the video was a good education for me about them actually too 😜.

I went through the entire lily-of-the-valley list on Fragrantica and I don't have any of those fragrances. I'm wondering if I even know what this smells like! Great video, Jon.

I really enjoy lily but LOTV is a bit more hit and miss for me. I think in the designer world it can be quite soapy. It's an older one, but I liked Lauren by Ralph Lauren. I don't think I have any prominent LOTV fragrances right now though 🤔 happy May day ❤

Lots of LotV in a fragrance isn’t my thing- too bitter, watery, soapy and kind of starchy if that makes sense, like the way it’s used in many Chanel. I have perfumes that LotV really balances fruity sweet notes and is what’s really the most pivotal part of the fragrance working. Like Ramune from JScent, it balances the jasmine and raspberry-juicy aspects. Can’t think of any perfumes with waterlily that aren’t fantasy accords, not sure how people are confusing the two. I love your list - haven’t tried any of these! Happy May 1st.

Happy May Day ✊❤️. Yea in more classic fragrances it can be alot can't it. It's one of them that's grown on me over the years but yes in a balanced way. The bitterness can be alot. And yes all lilies are definitely not "lilies". I think it comes from reading notes rather than experiencing them or bothering to try and learn. Which is cool if it smells good who cares and the notes are merely guides but if you're gonna talk about them it's weird not to know isn't it 🙄. That's KZfaq for u, I mean non of us are experts especially me, but yea it's good to know what you're talking about. Rant over 🤣. That Ramune sounds really nice 😍

There were swaths of lily of the valley in my childhood home. Those and grape hyacinths were like tiny fairy flowers. Too bad Confessions of a garden gnome has been discontinued because I'd love to try it.

Yea or at least very reformulated it was a beautiful one 😍. Oh yes we have the little hyacinths too, they are very cute aren't they. Did your LOV have a smell? They do look lovely

@@scentedsnowdrops they have a lovely scent! I love white florals, and they always seem to have (in my experience) a green note. The Garden Gnome one looks so lovely! Anyways, someday, I'll try Penhaligon 🌿

@@scentedsnowdrops Bluebells! You get very different flowers, the ones that love moisture and a cold dormant season. You probably have forget me nots (we have them, too). My climate is mainly Mediterranean, and we get lupins. They're gorgeous and amazing wildflowers.

I used to love lily of the valley. Then my mother bought that awful bugspray with a super synthetic scent of lily of the valley. Now all I smell is bugspray 😆 I tried the one by Oriza Legrand, nope ... Yesterday I tried again Très French, nope ... The only ones I can still appreciate so far are Diorissimo and Cavatina.

🤣 🤣 Yes I can complety understand that. Dior Poison has destroyed many a note for me cos of my mum 😂. I think my neroli dislike is from oven cleaner too.

@@scentedsnowdrops Yeah I think some people hate citrus notes too because of their general use in cleaning products 😅 And in general, all the plants that are bugs repellents are also awful for me (except lavender) 😆

Yes them lavender smells got me too I think. Maybe they'll start scenting toilet cleaner with Br540 soon 💙🤣

@@scentedsnowdrops Haha I heard some people had dentist vibes with BR540 😅🤣 For me this scent just reminds me of taking the metro to go to work. Everytime I take it, there's someone wearing this fragrance or its dupe. I'm done 😆
