Jennifer Grey gets her talent from her father. In his time he was a great dancer and actor. He's won SO MANY awards for his talent. He's probably 90 years old now and a living legend. I saw an interview with Patrick Swayze once where he said his mother was a dance teacher and he learned ballet at an early age. He was such a talented man. His death was so sad. 💔💔💔

And that song made him one of the most successful singer songwriters of all time. Guess how many Beatles albums outsold him on the all-time list? One, Sgt Pepper's outsold him by a sliver. Made me laugh when Rob Lowe was on Joe Rogan laughing about how Swayze kept bugging him trying to convince him to use that song. One of the biggest blunders in film history.

BTW, the older man playing her father was Broadway legend Jerry Orbach, a pretty good dancer in his own right. He's best known these days for playing Detective Lenny Briscoe on "Law and Order" (a role he stuck with for nearly 20 years), but prior to his move to TV he was all about Broadway musicals. He's got a great singing voice, as you can tell from the animated version of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", wherein he's the voice of Lumiere, the candlestick.

And her mother is Kelly Bishop, a Broadway dancer/actress with a career starting in the 60s. She originated the role of Sheila in A Chorus Line and won the Tony award for her performance. So her line "I think she gets it from me" is a wink to that history.

The only way to truly give a reaction to this dance is by watching the entire movie! This dance signifies a lot of different things in this movie for the couple, not to mention, for Baby's(Jennifer Grey) parents as well. This dance represented a rebellion of sorts by both, Johnny & Baby. It represented Baby's coming of age; becoming a woman. It represented Johnny honoring Baby for the way she fought for him. It also represented the way Johnny was viewed by Baby's father, & the false assumptions he made about Johnny throughout the movie. This was the first time Baby's father actually saw her & accepted her as a 'woman' & not his little girl. It was also the first time her father saw Johnny as someone who actually cared about & respected his daughter. Please, please, please watch the whole movie...then you'll really understand the rebellion, meaning...and love behind this dance. 🥰 I love you guys so much, you're absolutely one of my favorite YT couples! Merry Christmas~🎄

Going into the lift, Jennifer Gray was extremely nervous because she knew Patrick Swayze had sprained his knee, and they'd been having trouble with the lift in rehersals. Come time to shoot the scene, they decided to go for it one time, and if it didn't work, they'd do something else. And they nailed it. Single take. What you see in the film is the one take of the lift they did.

It would have made more sense if you'd had the bit just before this scene when 'Baby' is sitting looking forlorn because everything has gone wrong and her family are angry at her, and Johnny comes in and says the iconic line "nobody puts Baby in a corner" before leading her up to the stage. You also need to know that no one knew she'd been having secret dancing lessons hence the total surprise.

@@Mightyon3_ Wishing you and your wife, many many, many more decades of marital.bliss 🥰 I agree with you about the movie! However, Patrick Swazye’s line about “No one puts Baby! In the corner,” made me just . . . Well, perhaps, I think I’ll just keep that nugget of info to myself. 😂🤣😇 ⭐️⭐️ ✌🏼🫶🏻🤗 sending you both, peace, love and comfort, always ~ Laura ✌🏼🫶🏻🤗⭐️⭐️ Take care, Alex

Patrick was a triple threat. Ballet and modern dancing, acting, and he sang as well. He had a song in the movie Dirty Dancing called She’s Like The Wind. It’s a beautiful song.

One of my favorite movies of all time! Definitely check out the whole thing if you haven't! Great soundtrack too! "She's like the wind" and "Hungry eyes" are bangers!

The Beautiful man singing this song is none other than the Fabulous Bill Medley, of The Rightous Brothers, you might recognize his distinctive low voice. Hes Great.

You need to watch some of the rest of the movie, where the staff are dancing in their quarters..... now that IS spicy !

Legendary Jerry Orbach playing the father. He played detective on "Law and Order", Broadway musical Star, and did voice and sang as Lumiere in the animated version of Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast'.

Patrick Swayze, a Houston native, learned ballet at his mother's dance studio. He even went to the Joffrey and Hardness Ballet School in NYC. Y'all are right, these actors had a lot of screen chemistry and that was the key to making this a classic for almost 40 years. Most people probably never saw the movie, but I bet you they seen this dance routine

If you haven't watched Dirty Dancing you need too! Patrick Swayze was a trained dancer until a knee injury. His father had a problem with that. His father died before seeing Patrick's success. Great reaction

The very talented Patrick Swayze, actor, singer, dancer. He also sang a beautiful song called, She's like the wind, from this movie. Lest not forget the male singer singing this song is the great Bill Medley from The Righteous Brothers
