The Beast was one of my most anticipated and absolutely came through for me it blew my mind, cannot wait for a rewatch. Felt like I was watching something transcendent in real time. Kinds Of Kindness really worked for me, for some reason I love the desperation and misery - I think it hits on this extreme almost punk rock feeling that we all have deep down but can never really express. Not to the level of interpersonal toxicity in the film lol but just some primal untapped extremity within us. I loved La Chimera (would love your thoughts on that), Challengers, Dune 2, The First Omen, Kingdom Of The Apes. I can't find a way to watch Evil Does Not Exist anywhere but can't wait for that to be available

I made a conscious effort not to watch the full trailers for Kinds of Kindness. I'm very happy that I did. I consumed the perfect combination of substances and it was phenomenal. Sidenote: the film was filmed in New Orleans, and that's where I live. So, that particular film was taking place in neighborhoods where I live and work. Talk about a unique experience; that was like a director I loved, making a film for me in particular. Thoroughly enjoyed.

I watched the beast three times in cinema, I can’t stop thinking about it. I feel so connected to Gabrielle’s character I’m so glad this movie exists I can see myself rewatching it for comfort in the future which is wild considering what the film is but I can’t explain it, something about it just clicks for me fully and I just want to bathe in it all.

Your take on films resonates with me almost 100% of the time. It's only because of your recommendation that I will see The Bikriders. The trailer doesn't do Austin Butler any favors. But, I'm a huge fan of Jesse Eisenberg, and his films feel almost constantly misrepresented in their advertising. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel.

I'm usually quite unimpressed by big studio franchise movies but I came into 2024 excited by a lot of the ones slated. Furiosa, Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, Dune Part 2, Inside Out 2 have all proved to be fantastic. Can't wait for Alien Romulus either. The more obscure surprise of the year for me was The Coffee Table which had so much going for it & was one of the most anxiety-inducing movies I've seen in years, but yeah, whereas my favourite films of the year are usually indie dominated, so far the studio franchise movies have delivered the most in 2024.

I haven’t seen an actual 2024 film, so far. The Promised Land? The Beast? Those are 2023 films. The Bikeriders? That took so long to be released, feels like a 2022 movie. God, I miss the 90’s. So many wonderful indie dramas. These past two years have been like an unending drought for me.

From this year, I've only caught "Dune II" and "Furiosa". Both great, but I think I'm done with sci-fi epics in desert landscapes for a while. I expect my cinema year will also be backloaded, with films that only release theatricall or get physical releases in the 2nd half. I'm particularly looking forward to joining the conversation on "The Beast" and "Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person", and theatrical releases for "The Substance" and "Nosferatu".

@@Thomas15 the way the narrative is told. The film takes it's time... while viewing... kind of a detriment, but the more I thought about the film afterwards the more I respected it and started to like what it was doing... but I'm also reserving total judgement until I see Part 2. But it reminded me of some French films I used to view and even some Russian films with regard to the narrative it was telling.
