its not really avoidable, and you also need a microscope to see all of the dirt and grime so you can really deal with it.

I bought one of those microscopes that you can hook up via PC and cleaned my android phone port that was charging poorly. The microscope is worth the investment of $40 to do this. I tried cleaning it many times without seeing what I was doing and the results were mediocre at best. With the microscope I could see exactly what was going on and get it really clean. I powered off the phone and went at it with a small metal pick. I used a canned air to blow the crap out. I also used electronics contact cleaner to clean the contacts. Mine needed several attempts to get it pristine. Now the charge cable actually clicks into place and stays there. The grunge that was in there was caked in there.

Hey mate, the buds getting quieter is probably due to earwax liquifying and solidifying behind the mesh. Put a drop of isopropyl alcohol on the mesh and use the find my earbuds function at the highest volume to hopefully vibrate some of it out. You can also remove the mesh (its glued so be careful) to remove the earwax. This is what I did, it works well but it will be difficult to glue the mesh back on so its not ideal

Yeah it’s probably ear wax buildup. Use a tooth pick to pry some of it out. Or if you want to do it thoroughly, see above.☝️

Ok but you're not supposed to clean it with a metal tool, because it can damage the port, use a plastic/wooden tool instead.

I hate USB C so much. I can remember the times when I had a phone with USB Micro for 5 years and never had problems with inserting the cable. But now I need to clean the port every 10 weeks.

I've owned type c phones since they originally came out. Never had problems with dirty charge ports. If you're having to clean yours out that often get a case that covers the charging slot
