I don't care who it is, be it Whitney houston, Barbra streisand, Natalie cole, Bette midler, Dionne Warwick or whoever; that girl, Diana Ross, has got those adult contemporary love ballads down pact. Her voice has that emotion, tone, sensuality and caressing of those notes.

That was my first ever Diana Ross concert. I lived & was going to college in Ft.Myers, Florida. She filmed the video on Sanibel/Captiva islands and the indoor part at Edison College and kicked off that tour there in Ft. Myers. A year later I was living & working in NYC & got to see her again at the Forest Hills Tennis Club concert, in Forest Hills, Queens. Great Memories. I loved both the Take Me Higher & Everyday Is A New Day albums. Diana was always beautiful but I have to say she REALLY was stunning at 50, on that tour. She never looked more drop dead gorgeous and her body was killer.

This is a great compilation and brings back wonderful memories of Ms. Ross and Mr. Carson. They always seemed to genuinely like each other, and he always showed such admiration for her talent and hard work (as she did for him). I frequently tell those who have not seen her perform live how wonderful she is in person -- and that unlike so many artists, her live versions of her songs sound like the recordings. But, this compilation shows that more convincingly than any words I could ever say. Watching her sit on the Tonight show sofa and sing an impromptu, but absolutely superb, "Baby Love" is amazing to watch. The "Theme From Mahogany" is also performed superbly, and I liked this live version of "Mirror, Mirror" even better than the recording. The last song on the video, the live "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" is absolutely beautiful, and you can see just how stunning the performance has been on the faces in the audience -- it was obvious they were thrilled at having seen something so remarkable. Quite appropriately, the video ends with Johnny's voice saying as they go to commercial "she knows what she is doing." She sure does!

I remember this so well this was her first debut with RCA records she singed a contract worth 20 million dollars that was never done before and as much as I love her I did notice she missed a lot of the lyrics to the song but who cares this was Diana Ross. As a true pro she pulled it off.
@brianwoods9741

Speedy Jefferson missing the lyrics will happen occasionally it's called being a human being we all mess up every now and then , that's gonna happen that's life and that not the (problem or an occasion) it's how you handle the situation , that determines if you are a true professional or not. Can you raise to the occasion ,can you bring your performance together effortlessly, smoothly without interrupting your performance and pulling off a great preformance in spite of the mess up . And no one can deny , without lying that Ms.Ross did pull off a wonderful performance in spite of her mistakes of which were many in fact, and she never busted a sweat, never losing her composer not once and keeping it all together ,showing in live action how it's done , how you are to keep going. She showed everybody on live TV how much of a pro. she is ! Diana Ross is at the top of her profession.truly a top notch Professional .

The reason America abandoned Diana is due to racism, she was and still is a global Nova Star but the powers that be in the U.S. would never accept that a black woman from the ghetto would reach out and touch the heart of the world becoming the biggest, most successful star on the planet. She has accomplished more globally than any other artist in history. Equally, during the 80's Diana embarked on a major world tour, playing to sold out arenas worldwide, she also married Arne Nass who was based in Europe and Dubai. She had choices to make of which Mary Wilson took advantage of to write her nasty book which American's in their stupidity took as a gospel truth. Diana is the greatest star that the U.S. has ever produced and only recently is given the recognition in the U.S. of which she deserves. Presidents, Prime Minsters, Kings, Queens come and go but Diana is always here giving great comfort to a world and particularly America full of hate. All hail Diana as peace, freedom, comfort to millions and a true Angel. We are lucky to have her!

Great compilation with one glaring omission! You failed to include Diana HOSTING The Tonight Show in July 1979. Her guests that evening were George Carlin, Muhammad Ali and Lynda Carter.

Ya that was a legendary performance at the end. Her tone was already going a key lower and the maturity had gracefully gone from diva to goddess. I love how every season, Diana makes another mark as with the medal she got from Prez. Obama. I am fairly sure I can say that Diana alway had to be somewhat low key about her political leanings, as she had a HUGE midwest and industrial state following, (generally GOP areas). Her audience even in LA is primarily a white audience and well to do black audience.

thanks for taking the time to post.....miss. ross looked great in the 1st clip from 1975 and looked well 16 yrs later in 1991.....truth be told miss. ross. is not well respected throughout hollywood....she has her fans in the hollywood circles but fans n respect are 2 different things....miss. ross could have gone much further in hollywood were it not for her narcissism and she is a terrible control freak.....berry gordy told miss. ross the truth when she wanted to star as dorothy in the WIZ....he told her she was too old to play the part.....she disregarded berry's advice n campaigned to get the part....studio execs in hollywood were open to bankrolling black films until the poor performance of the wiz at the box office....was not totally dina's fault that the film did so poorly but she was clearly miscast,,,,in addition, the bodyguard was orginally suppose to star diana ross and ryan o'neil.....many in hollywood refuse to work with diana because of her attitude and behavior....this is evident if you have watch the vh1 special of behind the diva live tribute to diana ross....diana would only agree to do it only if it was billed n promoted as a tribute...diana rejected all the exec producers ideas came in an took over complete control of the show gave instructions that none of the interns or non-producers were to make eye contact with her....she nor mariah carey liked to rehearse....this caused donna summer to pull out of the surpremes number that donna,mariah, and dina were suppose to be a part of....if you watched this special you will see how diana n mariah are tripping over each other during there routine....they also told how a two hour taping ran over 5hrs and ppl had gotten tired and began to leave way prior to the end of the show.....she changed all of the last names of her children to ross (with the xception of her oldest son because his 1st name is ross)...how do you do something like that when her two daughters fathers is alive and has always been apart of his daughters lives...in diana's defense no one if perfect!!

As ALL of you know, I am NOT a fan of DIANE ROSS as a solo act..........THE SUPREMES were a MUCH better act! With that being said, I must say that this performance of "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" was very "SUPREMEY!!!" I will admit that she nailed it! What a beautiful song! The only possible thing that could have improved that performance would have been if Flo and Mary were standing next to her!

I will move on when THE SUPREMES' LEGACY gets its due and the silly "Ross as a solo act" fans stop distorting their history by giving Diane Ross (who was the star within The Supremes) more credit than she deserves for their success. Although Diane was the star among the three individuals, the GROUP, collectively) was the ultimate STAR. When The Supremes ruled the record charts, it was the GROUP that America loved, not Diane Ross, Mary Wilson, or Flo Ballard. Each lady had their fans; however, THE SUPREMES, the group, were America's Sweethearts. When everyone admits that The Supremes were the main event, that the group was a much better act than Diane as a solo performer, and that Diane was NOT The Supremes, I will move on!
