+TheTRAINOR11 She's no queen at all man. (Wachu talk'n 'bout?!?!?) To say so is gross disparagement against her, like calling her a scullery maid. Mae is a bona fide GODDESSS!!! Thee DIVA!!! (Which is why she had one of the largest Gay Followings, mind you) Give it a good think over. Deliberate. It'll come to you, what I mean. Hint hint. For a very simple but yet profound instance of her playful banter-dude casually complimenting her: Why, I can always tell a lady when I see one. Mae: Yeah? What da ya tell 'em?I mean, what the HELL? What kind of cat-and-mouse comeback style is THAT?! Incredibly unique off-putting WIT!!! That's What!!! She's a GODDESS!

Thank you for letting us know that her mind was the largest part of her success! I admire her even more. Now I understand part of why she became an icon: she controlled her image through producing, directing, and scriptwriting as well as acting. And she did it at a time when women had fewer rights. Even now, it is *extremely* rare for an actor to do all four at her level of success. I had wondered how she had the opportunity to be so consistent, and appreciate the education.

Get a life and stop hating on people for enjoying drag. Its homophobic, really. You're funny. The world economy is crushing, the planet is in the same situation as it was during world war 2, thousands of people are dying every hour (and you might be next) and all you do is come talk about drag and call a gay man, homophobic. Yes, you are the very definition of a cultured person ! Really .

@@morganolfursson2560 Bruh what is a cultured person. We know about that stuff and that isn't even what it's about. That is like calling you uncultured for fighting for Mae West instead of talking about global warming that doesn't even make sense. Where did that come from? And if you're referring to yourself as a gay man then why are you bashing other gay men for doing what they please, by calling them stupid drag queens, etc that makes you homophobic.

The singer Elisabeth Welch told me that she met Mae West in London in 1948. She said: 'Miss West was not brash, but so gentle you could hardly hear her talk. I admired the enormous topaz jewels she was wearing: matching necklace, earrings, bracelet & ring. Miss West explained seriously that this was merely her "summer jewellery." I wanted to laugh, but she was so sweet that I couldn't.'

@@morganolfursson2560 well you sure did reply to every single comment on this damn video. Everyone is celebrating Mae's contribution to cinema, you're the only one who is acting like you're better off because you knew Mae West before you knew about Drag Race, when you're just bitter because you somehow can't share your appreciation for the stars of your childhood with newer generations. Disgraceful. Miss West would be disappointed.

@@GucciStinkbug My childhood ? You make it sound like i was born when Mae's movies were opening in theaters . Well yes i knew West before drag race , but this has to do with the fact that Mae was a massive star from the 30s to the 70s and Drag Race started about 10 to 12 years ago . But i also used to know Ru from the East Village Pyramid among other places, living there ,along with Bunny and Lahoma, Keny Keny , Leigh , La Rue doing E and C and the other letters and having a good time at Wigstock . I may not be 20 years old but i was born after the Stonewall riots and had quite a good time in the 80s and 90s in the NYC gay scene . Sorry it takes more than alaska to impress me, But i have met Sharon on several occasions, very charming and very intelligent fella . As for bitterness , the only one i ever experience is 97% cocoa , chocolate , nothing else . Now go and play along kiddo .
