I have to say that the food in Laos was the best I've ever had. There are so many aspects that I know you can't touch on in two short videos. But the congee, larb, garlic/lime peanuts, and so much more. I just loved every bite of every meal I had there!

Laos is an amazing place. Beautiful natural scenery, historical sites, French colonial architecture. Did you see the first part? Gordon Ramsay did some ancient fishing at the Khone Falls. You can tell he loved the experience. He's in love with Laos. He talked about his fondness for this country so many times.

It’s because the monks can’t have any alcohol. So even if it would be mostly cooked out of the flambé it isn’t allowed. That’s why at the end the monk looks a bit annoyed about the dessert. Probably is common knowledge there so he expected Gordon to know.

Lao food is the ancient food that the ancestors created for their children as heirs through many generations, but it can still live together with the eating culture of the Lao people and our Lao nation forever. We should be proud to be born on this rich land. This is Lao food. #proudtobeLao #Laofoods

Those monks looked so happy. The monks in America smile a whole lot more. Monks aren’t supposed to judge the food. But just give thanks to the offering. This was kinda strange. The monks would also tie a sting and bless anyone that comes.

hey I'm curious tho, what if they're sick and need medication? 🤔
@wheel326
@wheel326 2 жыл бұрын
@@jjeffreyy2212 One, resort to traditional and herbal medicine. Can range from menthol ointment, teas and plenty of rest. Some other cases they have to be taken to the main city hospitals where its more developed. Gordon here is going to the rural areas but Laos now is a lot more developed in the main cities, so there is better healthcare too.
@jornbesteman
@jornbesteman 2 жыл бұрын
I am curious though, because with the technique of Gordon the alcohol vaporizes in to the air but the required taste remains. So technically there won't be any alcohol in the dish anymore. Would that still be against the rules?
@wheel326
@wheel326 2 жыл бұрын
@@jornbesteman I don't think its still allowed even if you burn it off. Lao people don't add alcohol to food. Local alternatives to the flambee bananas can be "kluay buat chi" (bananas in coconut milk soup) or "khao dtom kluay" (sticky rice and bananas wrapped in banana leaf).

2:20 him saying first batch being stronger concerns me, hope they don't keep the methanol. For those unexperienced with making alcohol at home, methanol vaporizes faster than ethanol (or rather it has a lower boiling point) which means the first bit is basically all methanol and that's the shit that makes you blind and feeling like crap. If you ever watch moonshiners you'd know they always toss the first jar away, or even half a bucket depending on how large the batch is. Don't taint the rest with this dangerous alcohol.

"We eat everything in Laos". I had rat at least two times, ones some dog, and some jungle birds a couple of times. When I asked, what meat it is, the answer always was "chicken". Ok, with the dog the answer was beef. You don't believe, I saw them slaughtering or skinning them a a come off his before. No judgement, meat is meat. It was in a very rural are, so the rats came from rice fields, and ok, the dogs were omnivore dogs.
