Everybody loves Moe Norman. In his late years, Moe would often perform clinics for Natural Golf Corporation in Orlando, Florida. In this video from 2000, Moe Norman does what he does best - demonstrates and explains his golf swing to an excited crowd.

I'm 61 and played my first round when I was 12. Never had a golf lesson. Never had a mentor. I have more golf swings than a politician has lies. I would shoot 90 one day and 112 the next. I am the rare golfer who could have 6 pars on the card and still shoot over 100. Then my brother in law told me about Moe Norman, just this year. My brother in law carries a 1-2 handicap and plays the tough courses (Pebble Beach two weeks ago) I had never heard of him. So I watched a few videos and went to the range yesterday, trying to "Swing like Moe." Holy cow! 15 out of 20 5 irons looked like they were traveling down a railroad track. The other five were still within a city street width. Before that, 20 of my 5 irons wouldn't fit into a football field, sideways! I can't wait to hit the links after a few more range trips. There is one consistency that Moe does that I have never heard him mention. His ELBOWS. His right elbow is never more than an inch or two from his right side. Many golfers, including me, would keep the right elbow tucked on the backswing but then let it FLY WAY OUT on the downswing, trying to get more power into the golf club, trying to DRIVE the club faster. And if you stop your backswing at the top, then move your right elbow in and out, watch how far the clubhead moves. That one move takes your golf club OUT of the single plane more than any other move. Thank you Todd for posting this video of a LEGEND OF GOLF. It's a shame that Moe wasn't able to find the mental/emotional help, aka counseling, to handle the EVIL that we all face in our lives. But it would appear that MOE is BIGGER after his passing than he was before! Kudo's to Moe!!

So, so , true. I had 36 different swings "thoughts" every round. And if I hit a ball well I had no idea why? Could never repeat it. My game was depressing. Didn't want to play anymore. Then I discovered Mo. Took a 3 day class. THE GAME IS FUN AGAIN! And when I hit a poor shot I know why. I was in the high 90's. Now I'm down to 85 and I will get lower with more practice. And it's so much easier on my back and body

Years ago I read about a reporter who asked Moe what his best round was. Moe replied "6 flagsticks" which meant he hit 6 out of the 18 flagsticks either on his tee shots on par 3s or on his approach shots on par 4s and 5s in one round!

His mind was the key. He was very relaxed. He had supreme belief in not worrying. Worry is destructive. He believed that every shot would work. Just like his swing, he blocked everything negative. A feeling of greatness. Trust your swing. Keep it simple. A swing that works. A mind that works. Straight works. Distance comes.

15 years of no golf due to back pain and 8 years of retirement golf with pain, pills and ice, I was ready to pack it in. Started the SPS journey this last spring and rather than barely finishing 18 (and being finished for the rest of the day...) I am now playing up to 27 holes per day with no pain, ice or pills. If you golf A LOT and I mean AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALOT. You can grasp his intellect. To the average person, he seems like a know it all (been there before). But he is just telling it how it is. Pure honesty. People really don't like honesty most of the time, although they clamor for it. When it's there, they find a way to manipulate the pureness. You can watch this video... and literally mimic it if you eradicate other thoughts and focus just on his setup and what it does for the swing. I wouldn't ever have to ask him a question. I'd stand behind him, to side of him, any angle I could...and just absorb what he is accomplishing. It's that observation, that allows your mind to adapt. You won't look like him doing it most likely, but if you can accomplish what he is doing and why he is doing it, your body will adjust naturally. I believe Moe is the one that said "don't fight positions". So true Moe, so true. I wish you were still alive today and I could have the pleasure of laughing and striking the ball with ya. Thanks for this upload Todd.

@Todd Graves. Thanks for sharing Todd. Just want to share an update on my swing progress and for others that may have similar issues. Yesterday, was making a few duff hits behind the ball, then I noticed you had a video about 'early release fix' and that solved the problem. The only issue with that is, it takes a good tempo sequence to shift onto the bent front knee and rotate the hips to their limit, limited by the flared front foot. So what I do is, I pre-set weight onto front knee bend and have slightly open hips, though really, the front foot being flared, already does that naturally a little. And my the feeling I want, is to have tension in that front hip area, only slight tension should be felt on back leg or hip in the back swing. This modification, has given me much greater consistency on squaring the club face, was practicing with 5 wood and 7 iron, was hitting both very cleanly and straight or slight draw. peace love light

It must have felt great for Moe knowing that he - being the only golfer ever to play the shot that he sets out to play on every shot! I tuned into Todd's blog by error, that is why I learned about Moe and the hard life he lived, not many here is Scotland had ever heard of Moe! - he was a great self taught sportsman, but unfortunately some Pro golfers thought they could read Moe as a book by it's cover! If it was not for Todd telling the story of this great man, then am sure a lot of golfer (world wide) would have missed is what most of us have been missing! I can't wait to see the film of Moe and Todd in the cinema! I still can't master Moe's swing - sometimes I hit huge drives and think -YES- ave got it, only to shank my wedge as my golf mates laugh! I understand Todd's saying in skimming a stone, but with stretching the arms out to play the one plain swing, makes it hard for me to get the right elbow swinging with the torso on the follow through! I have watched all Todd's video's of the time he spent with Moe and him explaining Moe's swing, then I think in how Moe felt when he seen Todd swinging like him, I also feel Todd's pain when he talks about his pal Moe in his video's! I love golf as it has been my life for over 50 years, but I am at an age now when am fed up playing well for 8 or so holes then the game bites you on the bum - it happens to us all - except Moe Norman - The greatest golfer to have ever lived, yet hidden from the world! RIP Moe!

I never get tired of Moe. My wedge shots are the best part of my game and they're consistently dead on and pure and I unintentionally always end up at that Moe Norman finish position like I'm pointing a wand to the target. I've tried it with my other clubs and it doesnt work unless I'm hitting a stinger or punch shot which is also consistent for me. There's something to that finish position and the positions you have to be in to get there, still trying to work with it. If I could hit my irons like I hit my wedges I'll be a hell of a ball striker.

@@brandonjordan2516 So am I. My early release issues are my biggest problem and what keeps me from breaking par. SPS helps in that it gets the upper body turning on a stable platform with the arms leading the hands. Start slow and low and increase from there (PW - I - W - Dr). If your hands are not in front of the lead thigh at impact then the strike is not pure. A mystery, yes but not an enigma. :)

3:31 - I've practiced this exact action many times lately for approach shots 120 yards or less. Keeping the swing path DTL as long as possible and club face skyward past impact. It's absolutely amazing how accurate the shots are. I was flying the ball all around the flag 105 yards out. Extremely effective way to score on short par 4s and par 5s. I have video on my channel for those that are interested.

Moe’s golf swing although perfect in every way is not all he says it is. Yes he does deliberately stop the twirling of his club head as he is chipping; but not on his full swing. In this video Mo Norman said “I’m the only one who has knowledge of my hands and arm” However he should have included his friend Ben Hogan; both of whom claimed to have the secret. The secret of both players and many professional players today is the proper execution of the elusive unfelt clockwise twirling of the club head that takes place at the top of every great golfer swing whether they are aware of it or not. The twirl is seen in both Moe Norman’s and Ben Hogan waggling their club as a rehearsal to start their swing. It is simply done with the pulling back of the trail hand and index finger and then simply letting it go clockwise. Jack Nicklaus did a more pronounced twirl waggle then Moe or Ben. Every golfer should begin to simply understand that the golf swing should only have one complete spiral of the head of the club as it is turning throughout it’s circumference. In order to do this; the club head must always spiral clockwise at the top of their swing to the finish of their swing. This secret move can only takes place at the top of their swing by starting the backswing twirling of the club head with their trail hands and wrist turning inward in a clockwise fashion as their entire body will respond to this one move. And then at the top of their swing many professional players are simply pulling on the handle of there club as much as they wish to to starts their downswing. Because the hips are the axis of the golfers swing; centripetal force; not apparent centrifugal force; draws the head of the club towards the golfers revolving hips. Cheers

Something I notice is how fat back his address of club is before he takes the swing. Most people nudge the club right up to the ball and start their back swing from nearly touching the ball. Makes me very curious about that aspect of his set up at address before he starts the swing in motion.

@@ToddGravesGolf Thanks Todd..I'll tell you an interesting story. I got to play 9 holes with Moe when I was 19 at the old Richmond Hill Golf Course. I didn't know who he was until later. I was an extremely slow methodical golfer. About 20 years later I was taking my teaching certificate at Hidden Lake and he was standing by the range watching us hit. I walked over and asked for his autograph. He said, "do you play any faster now? I said in disbelief, "you remember playing with me?" He replied, "Ya, Richmond Hill, the slowest golfer I ever played with" I was and still am totally mesmerized.

Vertical shaft at the end of his short shots means quiet hands in a traditional swing. In Mo's case it happens as a product of his set up and grip.

How did he hit all of those balls off of a tee without breaking the tee or the tee going anywhere? I can not tell by the camera angle where the ball is placed in his stance and alignment. Is it in front of his left foot towards the flag or inside his left foot or where?
