Honestly it’s a story arc they ruined. First with his brother, then with the letter. Plus it made him so feeble, weak. He should’ve grown during the run in that area as he had friends and a wife. Instead they went with weak.

Leonard and Amy are both short sighted so removing their glasses would not have made it any harder for them to see a near target. Sometimes shortsighted people are more comfortable when they remove their glasses when reading something near.

Actually it depends on how short sighted you are. If you're like -1, you have trouble seeing subtitles in cinema and bus numbers. but if you are around -5, books are also a problem.
