Is BMW oil from Castrol company ! I mean is 5w30 the same but only the changed the oil bottle !

Providing the oil is synthetic and to the BMW spec it is not an issue to be concerned about. All oils must be labelled with the relative information and specifications. I have used the cheapest oils and filters on my last 6 BMWs without the slightest problem !

I’m running Castrol Edge OW-40 in my F32. I like the extremely thin viscosity on the cold end for easy pumpability and a little heavier on the other end since these engines tend to run hot anyway.

Hey guys , you need to take in consideration the weather condition where you live if you live Alaska, or you live in Dubai or if you live in Europe, you need to be somewhere in between myself based in London so I use Castrol edge 0W 30

For normal use I would recommend the Castrol Edge ll04 5w30 or 5w40 For a car that occasionally goes to track days I was thinking about , Motul 300v 5w40 because it has a good HTHS of 4.1. I’ve also seen the Ravenol vst usvo 5w40 with a 3.9 which looks good on paper but it’s 2 times cheaper so probably not as good as Motul.

The oil is blended by Shell which makes Pennzoil. So what you are using is Pennzoil. Just Google who makes BMW oil if you have any doubts.

I was using 5w30 original bmw twin turbo oil in my M54 E46. It consumed around 0.5 liter in 10k km. I changed it to Liqui Moly 5w30 and no oil has disappeared in 10k km! I am now using 5w40 Liqui Moly in my N54 335i.

Just switched from LiquiMoly 5w-30 to MobileOne 0w-40 on my 2012 528i. It seems to run alot smoother

Yeah use Pennzoil BMW dropped Castrol years ago and liqui molly is ok didn’t do so good during testing for wear resistance. Pennzoil ultra platinum or Pennzoil platinum euro.

very informative - I just bought a used 2017 BMW X1 (F48). I'm planning to change my own oil not needed one yet. BMW says 10K but I'll go more like 6-7K max. My car says it can use 0W-20 or 5W-30 approved oils. I've heard good things about Liquid Molly but never used it? I've also heard my car is a small 4 cylinder twin turbo. I've think they used the 0W-20 more for MPG and emissions than long engine life? I may be better using 5W-30.

I have a bmw 520i, 2000 model. It says that this should have LL-01 or LL-04. But what does this really mean. What does LongLife really stand for? But there are other codes as well that are important? BMW doesn’t make /blend oil. They buy from large company’s. The large company will blend the oil. BMW recommends Castrol Valvoline Syn Power and Mobil One. Use the weight oil that is in your manual.

The best anti wear additives are lithium. This was taken out of the oils in the mid 2000 as it was damaging the cats. You can buy this and add it to any spec oil to fortify it. The oil in question is not 100% synthetic. Oils like royal purple and blue diamond both from America are 100% synthetic and are far superior in all aspects of lubrication

I find video useless and too simple. There are a lot more important facts about oil formulations... You just promote those oil brands. People pay too much atention to oil bottle designs and names... For BMW gasoline engines important is A3 specification (full saps). For modern diesel engines C3 specification (low saps). Done. That's where people do wrong...they don't pay attention to that. Viscosity of oil is just a question of climate and later - driving style. 10w-40 can be used without any problems in BMW. You can't find an approved BMW 10w-40 because they are not suitable for today promoted longlife oil intervals (20.000-30.000km). But there are some on the "BMW special oil" list. BMW LL-01 and LL-04 are just a stamps that say that oil is tested by BMW and suited for long oil intervals. Nothing more. You can use 10w-40 for sure if you change it max. at 10.000 km. Btw, most BMW enthusiasts do not follow long intervals...and modern "more fuel economy=less wear protection" oil marketing.

I do this mistake, i used castrol edge 5w30 LL, not LO4 in my 530d e61 around 2500km, did I make any damage to the engine? Should I change the oil as soon is possible and which oil is recomended, the car has 212tkm. LL-04 are for the Diesel engines (Can work with Gas). You want to look for LL-01 for gasoline engines. 10W-60 is for non turbocharged M Cars.
