Outside of being a subtle advertisement for your product, it is a good reminder that protection and comfort on a bike also depend on smaller items. I have 3 gaiters : a fleece-lined for winter, a GTX windbreaker, and a very light FPS50 for warmer days. It makes a hell of a difference on longer trips, reducing noise, chafing, the pain caused by insects and small objects hitting your neck at 90+ kph.

@Jonathan-L
@Jonathan-L Жыл бұрын
Balaclavas are part of my riding kit too. I use thin ones all year round, as the climate here isn't too cold in winter. I find the balaclava helps prevent me ripping my ears off when I put my helmet on, plus it's long enough to prevent sunburn on my neck. I have an assortment of colours, and they're quite cheap from Aliexpress. Furthermore, I also wear a neck collar, which cost about $11 from a pharmacy, sold as a 'cervical collar'. This is the cheap fix to killing helmet wind noise, and I wish I had discovered it years ago. Not only does the reduction of wind noise make riding more enjoyable, but it's warm in winter. I shall wait another 6 months before I get to test it in summer. I still wear custom molded earplugs of course, so the combination of year plugs & neck collar work really well. Not long ago I was contemplating buying a new Nolan helmet with the wind 'skirt', but the neck collar was cheap and effective. It was about a tenth of the cost of a NOJ 'Quiet Rider'.

Thanks for the advice. I prefer wearing a longer „open face“ balaclava covering my neck, throat and chin. In winter it provides a cozy additional warm layer, but even in summer it’s useful as it keeps the sweat away (at least for some time) from the helmet cushions. On a longer trip in hot weather it’s way easier (and smaller) to have a couple spare balaclavas tucked into your luggage to swap, rather than having to wash the helmet inlays every time (including the tedious removal and re-assembly) - or alternatively having to travel inside a sweat-smelly helmet for some time.

I do this as well. Balaclavas are the go to. If I'm not wearing a closed helmet I do a bandana.

KZfaqr merch is getting quality! However this is the first one outside of tech that Ive seen with fairly rigorous requirements. I personally think you all should add this and other often forgotten writing gear to your shop on a more permanent basis instead of just a small run and I'm hoping to see these return.

Been part of my cold-weather kit from the start as a carryover from my general winter gear. Small/packable, surprisingly warm yet relatively easy to remove. I also find that gaiters are a great thing to keep on the bike; protect the ankle gap and shin when cold and gets you through occasional showers. Of course, I tend to ride in carhartts & hiking boots rather than specific moto gear.

Some 15 years ago when i first stepped on a bike-My geriatric cbr 1100xx riding pal from west germany wore a scarf. It was a microfibre sheet. He explained to me that it had many uses. The reasons you stated plus these. 1. Protection from light road debris (dirt water and bugs). 2. An emergency lens cleaner. Today and as you said , I never leave without it even riding in +30c. I laughed at him at first from my harley for wearing a ‘scarf’ in the sun. But i soon ditched the harley and the ego. Could be wrong but i think gaiters/scarfs are common in Europe. I got sent one free with parts i ordered from Holland last year. Cheers

Been meaning to get a gaiter for a while. I typically use a balaclava when riding in poor weather, but they always make my already-snug helmet just that little bit tighter and less-comfortable. This looks like it'll hit the spot. Also, as someone with a long neck, I appreciate the added length you've gone with. Looking forward to giving it a go. Thanks for listing it on Amazon US so I don't have to pull any cross-border chicanery!

Nice to see more youtubers developing merch which is useful in their field rather than mugs stickers and t-shirts I have a very similar gator I use.. May I suggest 1 more iteration? (Though I understand that if your launching it, you probably have significant volume already ordered) Make it flare at the shoulders a little to make it stay tucked better, maybe even be slightly longer at the front and back for the same purpose (like some button up shirts do) Just a thought. Ohh and these rock for anyone working in cold / windy conditions as well as riding.. I just find it tends to ride up and leave gaps at times and readjusting it with a pack and 2 -3 layers is a pain. If it goes particularly well you might consider a heavier version for V cold weather.. It's a great design too BTW.. looks good I can see there being demand at least for some alternative colourways.

I use a Held neckwarmer and it has been pretty great. Sits on the shoulders, so it doesn't slip down at all and having a goretex membrane it also keeps me warm and dry during the rain. I think it even makes it a bit quieter in the helmet, tho it could be placebo. Only the 40€ price tag might be off setting for some

A scarf is much more stylish though (preferably silk which is what the aces used), and you can have the tails fluttering in the wind as a bonus. Silk has a lot of benefits too, it dries fast, is cool and breathable yet has a tight weave to block sun (depending on denier), it absorbs moisture, and it is silky soft.

It also takes the sting out of being hit by flies and other insects while driving. My 2 faves that fit and are longer than average are one of the Buff winter ones and Itchy Boots branded offering. One refinement I have made to my winter wardrobe is to wear two; not overlapped but in series, stacked. Means I get full coverage, whatever happens.

I have a buff that's about as similar as you can get to your product, I picked it up for my summers in the rockies and have been using it ever since! It's a brilliant idea, I'm not surprised at all that it applies so well to motorcycling. It does all the same things, just in a different context!

I've been riding with lycra balaclavas for years. They do what a neck scarf does, but in addition, it would make it easier to put and remove helmets. Another pro is that sweat would be collected in the balaclava rather that in the helmet, which you can easily wash. I have all sorts of colors to match helmet and/or apparel of the day 😉

About 25 years ago, when I first started racing off road, I had a new fire suit that was super stiff. After 6 hours in the car, the harnesses and suit conspired to chafe my neck to the point of bleeding. I hopped out at a pit, tore the sleeves off my shirt, stretched the hell out of them, and pulled them over my head to cover up the bleeding hickeys on the sides of my neck. It was a spur of the moment fix that forevermore became part of my race day clothing. I never thought about the history of the scarf for pilots, or even using it while riding a motorcycle, but I can tell you the misery of that first race was real and the idea makes perfect sense. Thanks for another great video.

I started riding in my teens and I'm in my mid sixties now. Early days, I ran into a wasp and it managed 3-5 stings in the time it took to get out off my neck. I now always wear neck protection of some sort. I have a 'chill out' balaklava. It's meant for cold days but it wicks away sweat and tucks inside my jacket. I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates this type of protection.

I like that Fortnine is finally coming to the party with these. I got tired of tube scarves bunching up at the back making it uncomfortable to look up, so I abandoned them a couple years ago in favour of a triangle shaped one. You can get "ice silk" ones fairly cheap many online places and the better ones have an extra bit of elastic material at the top to keep it over your nose or between your bottom lip and chin (my preferred position). They wick (and cool) great, protect from UV and prevent the strike of a wasp or June bug at 120kph from breaking the skin.

I love a long thick balaclava for cold weather camping. For chilly spring or fall evenings and mornings, a neck gaiter can provide many of the benefits of a balaclava when motorcycle camping, particularly when combined with a polyester knit cap when off the bike. I'm into ultralight, so I love gear that does double duty, on and off the bike. Extra head and neck insulation is best because that's where half of your body heat is lost.
