Great video, I hope that this video gets suggested to younger riders so they can understand the principles and the „urgency“ of having winglets on their bikes. ✌🏻Ride Safe ♥️

Talking about motos with a background of ‘destroy all machines’. Classic FortNine. I wonder if Ryan painted that.

I have pointed out the "you paid for the whole tachometer" aspect before and people don't often understand, or worse, disagree from a place of ignorance with no counter argument. If the higher RPMs were bad for your engine, why would the engineers have purposefully put the redline where they did instead of the better-for-the-engine lower value? Did they just throw a dart at the board to pick the redline? Or is the redline the safe limit of engine speed? Or do you (general you) claim to know more about engine design than the engine designers?

I think you mistake the purpose of the doohickey in question. It's not to make the bike faster, more stable or handle better. It's to make it look cool and help sell motorcycles.

At cornering speeds the downforce will be much lower minimizing ill effects of winglets. Also did anyone think winglets were gonna help them around town?

After sliding about 250ft mostly on my forearm, knuckles, palm, helmet chin and toes. My jacket taking the brunt of the damage. Which was the shell wearing all the way through. The "impact pad" was about half way though its thickness. However my skin was untouched. That beings said I did have a piece of gear fail and that was my right glove ripping from the pinky finger down the side of the palm. Which the road rash worn down into the muscle almost to bone. I'll keep "these tokens" in my jacket and ignore click bait videos like this. Thank you "tokens" for saving me from even more pain because if I would have taken you out like this jackass says I should I would have lost most the skin on my forearm too.

Oh, no. Not again. The aerodynamic community in aviation contaminates the motorcycle industry. He was Italian, he was brilliant, and now, he's dead just like his principle. The Bernoulli effect is, indeed, real, but weak compared to the, in this case, downward pressure of, wait for it, angle of attack. Picture a large airliner rolling down the runway at take off speed. It will roll all the way to Topeka unless the pilot "rotates the nose" upward, about 15 degrees, increasing angle of attack, and the wings flex and, then, the wheels lift off the runway. The airfoil and it's Bernouli effect allows a steeper angle of attack for more lift, from a steeper angle of attack, before stalling. Stunt planes fly upside down (though badly) and planes, with no airfoil or symmetrical airfoils, fly just fine.

Generally agree with your conclusions and the real reason they are on sports bikes sold for street use. My Panigale V2 doesn’t have them and the V4SP2 my son rides does. He’s a special case as and ex British Superbikes Racer so on track and probably to some extent on really good bits of road he has the speed and the skills to get some benefit from them. Otherwise they are styling items for homologation purposes in World Superbikes (Not MotoGP which you kept referring to as that’s prototype racing without being based on homologated road bikes). My one quibble is your understanding of Aerodynamics. If wings, winglets or other aerodynamic devices work because of Bernoulli effects how do fast jet wings and specialist aerobatic aircraft both of which typically have the same curvature on the top and bottom of the wing rather than the classic wing shape? The answer is they generate ‘lift’ by being angled at a positive angle of attack and pushing the air below the wing down causing a reaction force on the wing that is the lift force! Most of the lift is created this way on all wings and the asymmetric optimised wing shapes for less extreme aircraft at best use some Bernoulli effects to enhance the lift or make the aerodynamics less critical over a larger range of speeds. Aerobatic and fast jet aircraft trade this efficiency off to give them faster reactions to control inputs and the ability to fly equally well normally and inverted. Now I know that Bernoullieffects have been credited for generating the lift for decades and is still widely “taught” in flight schools etc but it’s not actually how most of the lift is generated and isn’t really true. No on bikes the wings (winglets) are you will notice upside down in terms of their shape to take advantage of the minor Bernoulli effects but they are also a flower at the front and higher at the back and it’s this angling (like the spoiler on a car) that generates most of the downforce by causing the air to be pushed up as it flows over them with the reaction force being downforce on the wing. All the other effects including the fairing when leaned over at 60 degrees acting as a diffuser and stalling the winglet by obstructing the airflow and stalling the wing all work as you say but the explanation of how most of the downforce is created isn’t. Another wing type that also shows that much of the lift is generated by mowing air downward and a reaction force is a kite or hang glider. On a kite or hang glider the wing is effectively and piece of fabric or film with close to zero thickness. While it will have a curved surface the the distance the air has to flow over the top and bottom surfaces is the same and so due to the Bernoulli effect (principle) the difference in pressure between the top and bottom is nil! They generate lift and fly because they are inclined up at the front so the wing diverts the air down and the reaction in this case, like the symmetrical airfoil pulley from the pushing the air down with a positive angle of attack.

I would like to put my 2 cent, since it could be beneficial. In recent news Italy has announced a series of laws that will be applied in the near future, some of them state that when conducting a motorcycle the drive MUST wear protective gear regardless of engine power, looking more into it there have also been changes to the requirements that allow such gear to be sold, specifically the points that are now lacking like fracture and sprain protection, some brands (dainese and alpinestar come to mind first) are already compliant, but others could be ultimately made illegal for selling since many other brands have stated that these laws are too strict

I once got a nail puncture on a car tire. The big chain tire shop said they couldn't possibly plug it, as it was too close to the sidewall. Dubious, I sought a second opinion. The mom-and-pop tire shop down the street had no objections, had it plugged in about three minutes, and charged me five dollars (seriously). Of course, I dutifully replaced the tire 20,000 miles later when it was bald. I now keep plug kits in my vehicles.

Not the last cheap motorcycle yet, the little ninja 600 I think it is that my neighbor just bought seems like a pretty good value still.klr is a great bike though, not a ten at anything but a solid 7 or 8 at EVERYTHING.its not official without a milk crate though in my opinion.

I've worn my Spidi Airbag Vest for 2 years. $600, and it's on for every ride. It uses a simple, frame mounted tether, which connects in one second. 35+ years of riding experience. Attended four Advanced Riding Courses. I have a high level of skills to pay the bills. BUT, this Vest is cheap insurance to help keep my spine and organs from irreversible damage... I want to live to ride another day.

Law enforcement and military have insanely good vehicle operators and trainers. I remember the day the Red Cross took us out to a training area operated by the military and the instructors there had a field day with us, but we remembered everything we were taught there and I still use it today in daily driving.

Sometimes it's a matter of luck. A few years ago I skated in the field. The bike kept going and I just rolled over and over and over again. That day it was so hot that instead of full protection I wore a mesh jacket with a cheap plastic protector from AliExpress. The cheap plastic helped the sliding and distributed the power of the sliding. I got up after a few moments and rode away. The motorcycle was injured a little more than me...

sorry, but the last body armour, from Fox these for motocross to war underneath (body armour jacket) - saved my life somehow. slipped in a wet corner into oncoming traffic. without it, i sure went to hospital with multiple injurys like Rips broken and such things. with this thing? Nothing happened. i felt the body armour like days from the impact on the body itself, but no visible marks on the body itself.......
