He's way too inconsistent to be called world class imo. Since he broke onto the scene in 2016, he has only had top two seasons and in the other five seasons, scored 42 goals in the Prem. That's not bad but it's nowhere near being elite.

Had Southgate brought Rashford on at 1-1 against France, or better yet, started him, I think England would have won that game. Rashford was coming into form before the World Cup, showed that form in the tournament and has continued that form since the tournament. That Southgate benched him for that game and worse, only brought him on at the very end is ludicrous and shows Southgate's ineptitude. France were pushing for a second goal in that game. It was the perfect time for Rashford to make an impact and get behind the French defensive line. You've got Harry Kane who likes to drop deep to pick up the ball and be a playmaker. At Spurs he has the likes of Son to run off him. Rashford is the perfect player to do that for England. England's front three really should be Rashford Kane and Saka. France were there for the taking. Instead, Southgate dithered and dallied and only brought Rashford on towards the end, when France had their second goal and could sit a little deeper. Southgate chose the least effective time to play Rashford (who still almost made an impact with the free kick). Don't just take my word for it. Ask the French. All the talk in France in the build up to that game was about Rashford. He was the player they feared most. They were absolutely ecstatic when the teams were announced and Rashford was on the bench. He's rated very highly in France. PSG have been eyeing him up for the last few years.

Rashford is the most IN-FORM player right now, for sure, but there's still more than a handful of players that are better than him in ability at his position (i.e. Vini Jr., Mbappe, etc.). Full disclosure, I'm a United fan, and been a fan of his for years now, and while this is easily his best season, I just hope that he 1) choses to re-sign (because RM, PSG, etc. will come calling) and 2) continues to push to maintain this quality in years to come. Salah was even more unplayable over the last 2 seasons than Rashford has ever been, yet I'm not sure Salah would even get into United's starting XI right now.

The term 'world class' gets thrown about liberally, not forgetting that form is temporary and class is permanent. They called Pogba world class, yet in his 7 years at United, his form was rarely so. I think this conversation states it right though, that Rashford is in world class form, but needs to prove he can hold this form over several seasons. As a United fan, I find the idea that he's 'carrying us' absolutely insane. Yes, his goalscoring record this season is great, but, his actual link-up play with the rest of the team is pretty piss poor. He usually runs down a blind alley, doesn't like passing at all. Nobody's carrying United, they're working as a unit and Rashford happens to get on the end of most of our chances, as his pace is a guaranteed outlet.
