As an autobody guy, im honestly suprised how good the duplicolor color matches to the existing paint without blending or anything. I still think your better off if you dont have a compressor and need to use a rattle can, find a paint store, or even some napas can mix basecoat and put it in a rattle can for you. And then put the 2k clear over that.

Is it okay to spray 2K clear over acrylic base color?
@danbasta3677
@danbasta3677 Жыл бұрын
As I understand it, base coat/clear coat paints are kinda weird. First after preparing your area, naturally by covering what you don't want over sprayed, your surface down to bare metal, tack rage it, and spray your primer on the area. After the primer has dried, time to sand down the primer, and apply yet another coat of primer. Sanding each coat down after tack raging them gives the primer and the paint, gives you to that step, adhesion for each coat applied so that the paint will adhere to the prepared surface, this is whare your real, true work begins and is at, as each coat, weather it be primer or paint, they both have to be scratched down,(sanded down) before each additional coat is applied, and naturally, tack ragged to keep the surface clean before applying the very next coat of primer, and or final coats of paint. The final coat of paint looks to be beautifully completed, however, its, not! You have to still scratch the paint down, tack rag it, then spray your final coat of clear coat, which then, brings out the shine and completion of your work. This is why I say base coat/clear coat is weird, as even though each coat appers really beautifully done with a beautiful looking shine, it isn't done at all, as it STILL has to be scratched down, tack ragged once again and the final coat of clear coat then gets applied, which, THEN brings out your final brilliance and shine of your completed work. The only advantage to base coat/clear coat painting is that in two hours or so time, you can actually wax your car or truck, whare as acrylic enamel painting, the process is the same with each primer coat sanded, then the acrylic enamel paint applied , you can't wax your vehicle at all for more than 6 months until the paint is throughly dried. This is why they put painted acrylic enamel painted cars and trucks in a paint booth and afterward "bake"thrm for a time before driving them out onto a delivery truck to be delivered to their individual distribution centers for selling purposes, and also they sit outside in the sunlight to bake them even further to harden the paint even more so before the final selling of the vehicle occurs. .in the end, weather acrylic enamel paint or base coat/clear coat paint, they BOTH end up rusted and rotted through due to certain environmental conditions that exist throughout various parts and areas of the country.

While I initially had the same reaction, during the reveal you could see the metallic was different so as he panned around the bottom of the fender behind the tires looked lighter than the door next to it. Of course, that could just be an artifact of the lighting, video and my particular screen combined and it might be easier or harder to see IRL, but it does point out that something is wrong.

A hundred years ago, when I was a juvenile delinquent, I repainted a lot of bicycles and I learned that using long sweeping strokes always gave the best results. You couldn't tell my work from the factory paint. This video has convinced me to go ahead and fix and paint over the chips from road rocks on the front of my beloved 2003 Tacoma.. Should be way easier because it's just factory super white. I'm slowly restoring it to what it was when I bought it. I plan on keeping it forever.

Just wanted to say thank you for your videos on spraying with rattle cans. I just finished my 2009 V6 Honda Accord and watching your video on spraying the 2k clear coat really helped me get a good finish. It took several tries and I finally got it right this past Monday. I had very little paint correction after I finished and using the Buflex, Assilex products, (worth every penny), I am very pleased with the results. I am a 61yo female who has never done this but was fixing previous body shop work that failed so I figured why not try to do it myself. I did it and am quite proud of the job I did. Thanks for giving me the confidence to even try. That is what I got from your videos. Thanks again.

Thats an issue with the shop I used to work at is that the painter was too good and most of the cars were 15+ years old and couldn't get the 'like new' shine back so he would try and do a worse job so it wasn't so well done that it looked out of place, but well enough that it'd be durable and blend in well. I had him clearcoat my car for the same reason, the hood was done too well though and looked out of place, but the rest blended well

How cool. I've always favored the creative approach.... In the mid 60s, my dad roller painted a 56 Chevy wagon with a gallon of mint green industrial coating used for lining railroad tanker cars He found it on a public dock where he had been fishing. He poured it on the roof, let self flatten and it dried hard and smooth as glass. Came out looking better than anything he ever paid Earl Schieb to do...

After years of both professional and driveway jobs, I can honestly say that duplicolor stuff is legit. I have never used a rattle can clear coat to the same effect though. It’s a rather temperature and humidity sensitive kind of thing, I have found it best to mix and spray my own, adjusting my mix to suit the atmosphere. That being said, I was blissfully unaware of that stuff from eastwood and am eager to give it a try.

I love the 2KClear in a can. I repainted my motorcycle with rustoleum rattle cans and coated it with the 2KClear in a can. Amazing results, but in order to get a good paint job, the prep work has to also be just as good if not better than the paint job itself. I also use Sprayaway glass cleaner for prepping and cleaning.

Looks great. Done this on my Ram Truck. I did the whole hood. Sanded off the clear coat that was peeling, but not all the clear was peeling. I sanded back to good clear coat, then primered the area with filler primer and sanded it smooth to the old clear. Used Duplicolor Patriot Blue, was a good match, painted the whole hood. Then used 1K Duplicolor clear DAL1695. wet sanded with 1500 grit. It did need to be polished to shine well. Did not look great like the 2K clear you used until I polished it with a rotary buffer. Never sand metal flake pint, it changes the appearance, only sand and work with clear coat. I am very happy with my paint job for the hood. Have done panel touchups using same technique and the color match is good to the OEM paint. IF you do not shake the can you will change the ratio of flake to paint and screw up the color.

I recently bought a low miles 99 Jaguar xj8 that had been sitting in the Nevada sun for maybe 2 to 3 years , the roof and trunk areas got fried ! and decided to give my best shot using "rattle cans" and this video was exactly what I needed as a "how to" guide . I purchased the paint from Spectral paints in Illinois , superb paint match and several cans of Eastwoods 2k clear and it WORKED ! is it perfect no , is it close to a factory finish, oh YES IT IS ! I found many coats of Eastwoods clear was the key to satisfactory results , I also wet sanded and buffed using a D.A sander with a mild compound which produced the desired result , however without this excellent video I would never have got the desired result I was looking for , so one more time thanks ! Scotty.
