Stu: You missed AAS Lounge Lizard. Probably the best out there -- physical modelling like PianoTeq (which I have and like) - and made in Montréal. So get a copy and give it try. Regards.

I used to have one of the early Rhodes with aluminum tine bars, and felt hammers. It sounded better than the later models with steel tine bars. and rubber over wood hammers. The actions on all the Rhodes models was very simplistic. For those that don't know, each tine had a guitar pickup. The tines were an unbalanced pitch fork. A very stiff wire was screwed to a larger and longer metal bar. It was tuned by slidng a little spring up and down the stiff wire which was the part hit by the hammer. The really good one that I had was inside a very modernistic roundish fiberglass body. I also had the stage model, and the suitcase model. The difference between the two was the suitcase model had a built in amplifier and speakers underneath. Actually the original Rhodes sound is pretty easy to synthesize because it's basically a very pure sine wave. The Yamaha DX came out after the Rhodes, and sounded quite spectacular, albeit very thin, Deaodato was one of many artists who made effective use of the genuine Rhodes sound which has lived on. I've always been a fan of Hampton Hawes who is playing with the gritty sound Stu likes. (2nd clip) Not all Rhodes could do that. It was achieved with the electronics in some of the latter models which weren't very common. It seems only top players had them. One negative of the Rhodes was the tine wires broke rather frequently. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLuTe7Z0pquRcXk.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ntJiaNSTyrW1dn0.html

Hi. Good video, thanks. I am a Rhodes fanatic but have never been lucky enough to own or even play a real one. So, I have to “make do” with a virtual one. EVERYBODY loves Keyscape and I have it myself, but I don’t find the Rhodes sounds like the Rhodes that I heard on countless records in 70’s when I was a kid. I’m not someone that has to buck the trend, and can tell that Keyscape is a quality piece of kit, but it just doesn’t sound right to me! So in your opinion, is the Keyscape Rhodes authentic? Thanks

i also completely agree with You...loove keyscape...(a friend has it) great La rhodes sounds but i still don't Hear the deep, thick dinámic Rhodes of the early 70s which Inlove in that VST...btw i'm a guitar player, not a keyboard plyr but i loove the Fender rhodes

Okay, so this is where I'm totally lost as a beginner. Should I just grab a Roland FP-30X and download Keyscape for all those sweet Rhodes sounds (but I am aware that the sound engine of the 30x is not up to pair with the more expensive digital pianos out there! hmm...), or would I be better off with something like a Korg SV2 or Cruma from the get-go and stay with such an instrument for the coming five-ten years, which are basically built for that kind of vibe and let you tweak sounds with real buttons, (I think such buttons are really nice)? What’s the actual difference here? I got a good deal for a Crumar Seventeen with legs and bag right now... perhaps that is a smart deal to go with such a piano? Both can handle classic piano sounds, but Roland feels like it's the 'default' option for grand pianos, while Korg and Crumar seem to bring their own style to the table with their grand pianos? Keyscape sounds amazing, but it also seems like a rabbit hole I might never escape... I stop create when things get to complicated for me... I got Logic pro in my macbook but felt is kind of overwhelming... ... maybe I’m just overthinking it? Help me choose! 😅

At the end of the day, tonal preference is a highly subjective matter. The decision is one that every player will have to make for themselves based on their tastes and requirements. Generally speaking, dedicated VST plugins are usually able to offer more detailed and authentic sample sets than keyboards (especially in regard to non-piano tones). But, VST plugins are definitely not as convenient given that you will need to have a laptop/device on hand at all times. There is something to be said for not having access to a plethora of controls too as it is easy to get caught in "analysis paralysis" when having too many parameters to tweak and adjust. Ultimately, you'll get use to whatever you choose. And, furthermore, you're never really stuck. If you purchased a digital piano and later decided to explore VST plugins, you can even use the same digital piano as a controller for the VST itself. Thanks and all the best!

Stu !!! What the heck are You doing playing an "M-Audio" ???? I always see You doing these type demos with Your RD-2000. Is there something unfavorable about the Roland A88mkII ? Seriously asking. I demo'd an A88 at the stores and found it feeling better then the RD-88 even though they both have the same Key PHA-4. Again I'm seriously asking Your Opinion. Thanks, Your Follower Joe D from Philly Pa.

I don't know if you tried this already, but after an ad interrupts, if I then go back a little bit & rewatch what I was trying to see, the ad does not re-interrupt in that place. Sometimes I do that to keep the flow of what is being said / played, especially if I needed to understand better or something lovely was being played that an ad smashed into.

What is it you want from Logic that you haven't found in any other DAW? I thought for years I was missing out on Logic because of being a PC user, until I eventually got a max spec MacBook Pro, and ended up hating it. Go figure. The stock sounds and effects were great, but the usability, performance, customization and compatibility were extremely lacking. I flirted with FL studio and Ableton for a long while, but they both felt kind of gimmicky and not like the stable, powerful workstation I was looking for, so I felt much like you did. Turns out, I was looking for Reaper the entire time, and after working up the courage to invest some time into getting to know it I'm ruined and can't go back to another DAW.
@HrWisch
@HrWisch Жыл бұрын
Send your love to Apple who bought emagic (formerly known as c-lab) and stopped PC development of Logic the moment they took control. Logic started on the Atari ST as successor of the legendary Notator SL. They then switched to PC and Mac until Apple took over and pulled the plug from PC to force studios to buy their overpriced computers. I've been a loyal C-lab customer for many years. I put a five figure number of bucks into their products, including multiple Notator licences and Log3 interfaces. I had contact with the devs, reported bugs ... everything was fine until Big Brother took over. So better use another DAW. There's plenty of alternatives like Cubase, Cakewalk, Ableton, FL Studio, Pro-Tools, Reaper and many more. And they all keep the Kraken away from you.
