Great video, and even better playing! You demonstrate many styles of playing here, and each is appropriate for the synthesized instrument sound you're demonstrating. Nice jazz work, too! I'm an old keyboard player, myself, who started on accordion in 1958, played rock & roll and country music in the '60's, then disco on Fender Rhodes + Micro-Moog, in the '70's, then went totally synth, and never looked back. Yet, now retired, I wouldn't trade my Otto Altenburg grand piano for a zillion bucks. Real pianos let you express things that electronic ones cannot, but electronic ones have their "cool-sounds." I think both are valuable tools for a creative mind.

The RP701 is a step above the RP107 in terms of specs and features. Touch sensitivity refers to how heavy/light the keys will feel (however, this is achieved by adjusting the sonic output). The RP701's 100 gradients of control definitely allow you to dial in more exact touch parameters that fit your preferences.

I heard some people saying that there aren't different waveforms in these pianos, I mean, playing pianissimo gives me the same sound as playing fortissimo but just with lower volume, no difference in timbre. Has anyone noticed that?
@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos 8 сағат бұрын
It depends on how many samples are used per note. While there are 127 potential velocities within the framework of MIDI, there aren't any tone engines that I'm aware of that have 127 individual samples for each key at different volumes/dynamics. The fewer samples you have for each note, the more "notched" the tone is going to feel. So, you are correct in your assessment that, in many cases, the same sample is simply being played back at lower volumes. Unfortunately, these details are seldom shared by manufacturers explicitly.

I bought the RD88 based on a number of things including your review a while back. I have not been disappointed over all. My biggest thumbs up is the feel of the keys and PH4 response, I love it. I always love to sit down and play a nice VST piano on this keyboard. I find myself playing far longer than I intended, which is a good sign of the playability and feel. A gripe, no surprise, is the menu diving. However, now that I know what I'm doing, I can create things much faster. I am also using some of the big sounds in this beast for my mixes and they really stand out as stellar and professional sounding. Thank you very much for your continued work Stu.

With recent price reduction in Canada, RD-08 (C$1450) does not make any sense when compared with RD-88 (C$1500). The cost of enabling Digital Audio Interface in RD-08 is U$300. Manufacturers have changed the meaning of the concept of polyphony. We have the real "88-voice polyphony" on 88-key acoustic piano. But on electronic piano with 192-voice "polyphony" we may find a limit of about 60 or 90 notes sounding simultaneously. So why call it polyphony, explaining this discrepancy by multi-layered synthesis? Call it "192 synthesis channels", providing up to 192 simple voices, and up to 60 (90) "most complex ones like piano". Marketing won't allow it...

Hello again. I have just seen one difference which might be important for some. There is no conventional 5 pin midi out on the FP-E50, which I suppose is normal for Home keyboards. Of course, if this is for a home, then probably 99% of people won't even know what a 5 pin midi cable is. But for those of us who do connect up things, it could be a problem. In my case though, I have a Midi to USB adapter so no problem, but this might help people to see the difference between home and more professional use. Best regards

I feel like if you like more base in the default sound without doing any digital turning the Fp30x is your go-to, especially if you like an action with more feeling when pressing down on keys. If you like more overall balance in sound and a lighter, more snappy action, I'd go with the Kawai es120. But I would also mention that the Fp30x has an integrated input sound chip, meaning it can play things like pianoteq (an amazing sounding piano engine) That can mimick a 100,000 dollar Steinway D through to the speakers of the Fp30× straight from a PC or Laptop. You would need to own an independent (audio interface) device to achieve that on any other digital piano below 1500 dollars. An audio interface can cost between 100-500 bucks depending on the quality you go with, not to mention the extra cords and setup mess.
