My Succulent and Cactus Potting Mix - Testing pH and Moisture. I show in this video the components I use in my succulent and cactus potting mix. I also show how to test your pH and determine if you need to use lime in any planting mix. I use Peat Moss, Perlite, Sand, and Lime in my potting mix.

Excellent video !! Thank you, it answered a lot of questions i had. I will be repotting some mixed succulents i bought 2 months ago and they have outgrown the pot i bought them in and this is what I'll do for soil in their new pot !!!

Thank you for this video! I'm just starting to get more into gardening and making my own soil mix... What about adding any organic fertilizer to the mix, like compost, bone/blood meal, worm castings, etc?

I used decomposed granite mixed up with my succulent soils,it works great, sand was way too fine

Would this mix work for orchids as well? I can't bring myself to purchase an expensive bag of orchid mix for one small orchid that was given to me.

+Patrice's Projects most orchid mixes have bark in them for maximum porosity. The peat moss is milled to fine.

Okay. I guess I will have to buy a bag of orchid mix. By the time I bought all the ingredients to make some mix for one single orchid, I would probably have paid more than what the bag will cost me. Thank you Jim

Patrice's Projects You can buy a bag of orchid mix for about $4 at Home Depot, less than what you'd spend on a brand new orchid! 😉

If u use part peat moss and part cactus soil and polite would still have to add lime

Hi there, I usually buy standard potting mix in bulk from the local soil supplier however my it holds too much moisture which isn't good for my succulents. I was considering using pavers sand(quite coarse) which I can also get in bulk plus perlite plus the standard potting mix I already get at a 1:1:1 ratio. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this please?

Did you ever do this mix? I was thinking of doing an extremely similar mix and would like to know your results if so. I'm growing outdoors in pots in zone 10a.
