BEST Table Tennis FOOTWORK, Exercises - eBaTT | Tutorial #37
Footwork in Table tennis is possibly the most underrated element, not just in the game but also the perception from those that don't play the sport at a decent level.
In this video, we look into what makes footwork high level and some of the best exercises you can do at home or in the playing hall to elevate your game.
Tip no.1
First and possibly the most important aspect of having good footwork is knowing where the weight distribution should be on your feet. To enable fast and explosive sidestep movements our weight must be on the balls of our feet and not our toes. We must also have a good ready position loads the muscles with elastic energy, enabling us to move with greater force and efficiency.
A great way to develop both our ready position and staying on the balls of our feet is by standing on tennis balls. this is also great for our balance.
Tip no.2
A great exercise that can be developed at home our up against a wall, is throwing a tennis or table tennis ball in a similar fashion to our playing strokes. At the same time, we aim to move side to side while executing both throwing actions.
Tip. put something on the floor to give you a visual anchor, to see if you are truly moving your feet properly. Start slowly and work to increase the speed in your own time.
Tip no.3
Side movement entails three kinds of side steps; pure side, side forward, and side back. All three movements must be developed to enhance your strokes and fluent footwork.
Exercise, a great exercise that can be done anywhere using a ball, is throwing the ball side on and moving to catch it. throw the ball in the three side locations and this will help develop your side-stepping foundations.
